OT EVACUATED | Device signed as having been recovered, could NOT be detected by sniffer dogs

Must have been said a million times before, but surely someone within the club in the know could? should? have cottoned on to the fact they had a bomb training exercise just a few days prior and that may have something to do with it?! Oh well, it only cost us 3million.

They probably did. But with 75,000+ people involved, they simply cannot take a chance and have to evacuate.

Not sure why the club is getting it for this one around here, this is solely down to the security firm. I'm guessing it will be their professional indemnity insurance covering that £3 million, and at least one person is being fired today from that place.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth rearranged with fans refunded and given free access to Old Trafford

Manchester United and Bournemouth fans will be fully refunded and given free access to Tuesday's rearranged Premier League game at Old Trafford.

Yesterday's match was called off following the discovery of a suspect package at the Theatre of Dreams. It was later made safe in a controlled explosion, with the police later revealing that the 'device' inside the stadium had been left behind from a training excercise.

All fans will be refunded and entry to Tuesday's match will be free, Manchester Untied announced.

The game will also be shown live on Sky Sports.

With a draw Manchester United can move up to fifth whilst a virtualy impossible win by 19 goals would see the Red Devils finish fourth. A win for Bournemouth would see the club move from 16th to 13th in the final table.
Hours after the evacuation Manchester United announced the rescheduling: "We can confirm that today's abandoned fixture between Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth will be played on Tuesday 17 May at 8:00pm.

"We would like to thank Manchester United's staff, the police and other emergency services for all their efforts today as well as rearranging the match for this coming Tuesday.
"Both Manchester ‎United and AFC Bournemouth's management has been extremely helpful in reaching a swift resolution, which is the best possible given today's events."

It's pissing me off that people on here are blaming Utd and calling us a farse, this is 100% all on the security team that leaves a bomb. How do we even know that the stewards, police etc knew that the security team was in the week before, there's just no way they could risk it. We responded brilliantly and showed just why we set the example in this department. That security firm is gonna be covering the costs I'm guessing and there will certainly be enquire so their end.

People are aware that we contract our security out to a firm called CES?

Criticising United for this error is a bit ridiculous, the club is as much a victim of this incompetence as Bournemouth.

It's our grounds and our contractor we're responsible. Pretending that we have no involvement in either activity 'is a bit ridiculous'.

I imagine they'll be a thorough retraining of the grounds staff at the minimum. Oh and more careful management by our site managers of course.

I think the club have to hope the police/army don't try and sue for the cost of their wasted resource. Wouldn't be suprised if some compensation was delivered.

Eh? What would be the point of an outside company coming in and performing a security procedure, which didn't involve anyone that attended an actual match day?

Some guy from that security company will be looking for his butty box this morning and thinking, oooohhh shit!

So you don't think that United are responsible for what goes on in their own stadium. I wonder who is ?

There should be no replay. United should forfeit the match as they have failed to fulfill a fixture due to something that was entirely in their control - the device was left by a Company contracted by United and United failed to find the device over a period of several days. Do they not sweep the stadium every day ?

Anyway, the PL should reverse their decision and award 3 points to Bournemouth.

Whilst I agree with sentiment, doing that might encourage other clubs to be less than careful in future

Can't believe how negative everyone is being. It's 19 goals, not 2 million

De Gea
Fellaini - Herrera
Valencia - Januzaj - Rooney - Young
Mata - Rashford - Martial - Depay
Young ahead of Lingard?
Fellaini is suspended. Put Smaling in

Crazy stuff, bit sad to see some of the pseudo-outrage addicts in here blowing the trumpets. The staff and police acted swiftly and ensured everyone safety, that is the main thing that should be lauded.

The club appoints the security company. If the company the club appoints are not up to scratch that ultimately is the clubs fault.

Thank goodness the crowd stayed calm and left in an orderly fashion. You wouldn't want to imagine what might have happened if panic had set in. All over a cock-up.

A company we hired left a bomb in the bathroom for 4 days without it going noticed... of course we should be held responsible.

I had to make my way down from Tier 3 yesterday when they evacuated and it was rammed on the (narrow) stairs which take a decent amount of time to go up and down at the best of times. There were lots of anxious people and I passed plenty of slower/elderly and some disabled fans on the stairs and I was worried for them if more of a panic set in. Even though the device was nothing in the end there could still have been people hurt.

Not yet known if it is them or not though with part of the training on their website IED awareness it could be. Sucks for them if it is as OT is emblazoned all over their website with a quote from Fergie on there too.

It's not rocket science. We're responsible for anyone we let into the stadium not to mention carrying out proper checks before the match and ultimately it's our name splashed across all the papers this morning.

We're not directly responsible but neither are we absolved of all blame either.

its the touts I feel sorry for, and the people that bought from them.

All the people who sold their tickets on for cash are going to get the refund.

This could put some poor touts out of business.

Well, they are commentators located in England at the matches. These commentators were at the Swansea/City match. And they're English.
You answer my reply of 16:40 at 04:20, almost 12 hours later, with the benefit of hindsight! My whole point was that, at the time I wrote it, there had been absolutely no official statement or comment from the club, the police or any other "official" network, even the SKY pundits had been evacuated to the car park of OT. So, as I said in my message I would rather wait for confirmation than react to a one-off report from any TV network (American or otherwise), or Twitter blogger, that a "suspicious package" had been found. Turns out it wasn't a "package" anyway so I was proved to be right.

If you hire a taxi and he gets a speeding fine do you pay it?

Trying to envisage a scenario where the home side would want to forfeit a match and struggling ?

There should also be other significant sanctions. This is a serious breach of duty to the public by United aside from the failing to fulfill a fixture issue.

There are going to be more than a few posters feeling pretty vindicated about calling the club a shambles.

George: Hey Sid, haven't you evacuated?
Sid: Why George?

Rooney: Guys we have a problem. There seem to be a suspicious package at OT, it may be a bomb
Giggs: Does the manager know?
Evra: What the feck I am doing here? I am with Juve now
Giggs: What do the fans say about it? Do they want me to take LVG's job now?
Rooney, touches his cheek: They say, that's the only exciting thing that happened at OT for years.

Feck sake that's brilliant, that advert is a shambles.

These days, with 75 thousand in the crowd and with what happened in France, regardless that it has now been found out to be a fake training excercise pretend bomb, it was still the right thing to do. You just never know, it could have been switched, it could have been real. I'm glad it wasn't obviously since the aftermath of something like that would have severed consequences for every Premier League ground next season, but for the sake of a ruddy game of football, I would so prefer the club to err on the side of vigilance and caution, no matter who it pisses off.

What a weird attitude. Surely not uniteds fault?

Any fault on United is only theirs by proxy (but, yes, still their accountability). United outsource security to another company, don't they, so they would take responsibility for not adequately checking the site prior to the game?

What a weird attitude. Surely not uniteds fault?
- The security firm would have been hired by United. It's United's responsibility.
- Clearly the toilets weren't properly checked before letting tens of thousands of people in.

This is entirely United's fault. To be pedantic, the Premier League will blame United and United will blame the security firm, but the blame still goes through us.
