Considering I've hardly seen him play I am very pleased with this transfer. It just seems so logical, Mourinho was always going to replace Blind with a more athletic player and this guy looks big, strong and extremely quick.

Also glad he specifically called him a centre back. It was slightly worrying how many people in the transfer forum thought he would be our right back for some reason.

Hopefully it turns out to be a Martial like signing and Bailly realizes his potential.

The talk from Villarreal fans is that he is a cross between Nesta and Baresi

Good signing for me this. Lots of people complaining about his technical skills with the ball but I'd rather two proper centre halves than a player like stones. Got the deal done early so hopefully we follow it up with 1 more before the euros get fully underway.

I think we are all ahead of ssn these days.

Hope the lad does well, bit like the darmian transfer for me, never heard of him, never seen him play overall not too fussed.
Younger than Darmian though and cost more than twice as much.

I am a little astonished at this signing given Villareal snapped him up for so little not long ago. Astonished at the price to clarify. I have never seen him either, have watched Villareal a couple of times this season but never noticed Bailly.

He's young and will hopefully do well under Mourinho.

I really like the look of this player....looks like a proper no nonsense Man Utd central defender who will get much better in a year or two.......none of this Van Gaal/Moyes nonsense putting endless square pegs into round holes

I knew this lad would be a United player one day having seen his dad do the Zidane turn on the beach during my hols in the ivory coast 30 years ago. I saw lethal potential in his seed and now we have a thrilling defender in our ranks.

Didnt Fergie once say he had reservations about African players because of the ACN?

I might be making that up.
Pretty sure he did say something to that effect yes.

In contrast, Mourinho has a pretty good record with African players at Chelsea... Drogba, Essien, Eto'o, Desailly, Kalou, ... erm, Mikel...

Never heard of him before yesterday, watched a video, and he seems like an intelligent ball-playing CB. He should for ma great partnership with Mike, which allows Blind to move to CM.
We still need to sell Jones and get another defender though.

Tbh Monaco bought Martial for €5m, so that shouldn't mean much

He follows in the great footsteps of Quinton Fortune, Eric Djemba-Djemba, Manucho and Mame Biram Diouf in the PL era...
Really glad Fortune played for us. He seems to really love United. Every time I see him these days, he's either on MUTV, playing in legends games for united, or doing some football-related charity work. Almost always has United merchandise on, or doing something related to United.

I hope he turns into a Vidic-esque defender because God, we desperately need one like him. Here's hoping he forms a long-lasting partnership with Mike Smalling

Welcome to the biggest club in the world, hope he has a martial impact. Now to get Varane /Manolas /Koulibally to complete our sprint back four.
We could literally play our defense beyond the centre circle.

Get in. Brilliant signing. The signing of the window, and will remain so even if City sign Messi for £10m with Mangala going the other way.

So then. He is any good?

Looking at the usual youtube clips of him he looks very quick, fairly strong and appears to read play well.

However what's he like in the air? the clip I watched there wasn't a great deal of him defending set pieces etc. (admittedly he is playing in Spain and all that), but defending the aerial threat at set pieces has been a major problem for us this past season, does he help solve this problem?

On the first day I receive permission to post five posts a day on the main from the newbie thread, I get an extra like and we sign this African player. As an African I am gonna go all "English Media" about him and say.. he is going to be the next Okocha, Toure(both brothers in their prime) , the next George Weah and the next Eto'o wrapped into one.

Also I finally get to say one of the few English phrases that I find cool. Get the f***in!!!

Same with Evra.
Nani is also African-born.
Ah yeah of course (I was going by footballing nationalities, which isn't a good thing to go by really)... one good and one great player to play for us.

Really glad Fortune played for us. He seems to really love United. Every time I see him these days, he's either on MUTV, playing in legends games for united, or doing some football-related charity work. Almost always has United merchandise on, or doing something related to United.
I love Fortune (though partly because I'm part South African) ... and I don't think he was a bad player for us at all... He had a pretty good stint at left-back at one time, and he always put in a more then decent cross.

Video games say this kid is the goods. Therefore I fully endorse this signing.

In fact, this has put me in full Muppet mode and am already over this signing and counting down the minutes until Pogbas announced.
