I don't think we do honestly, against possession based teams we'll play on the counter and a player like James who is far more direct in his play would suit us better than someone like Silva. Even in general, with the type of football we play we need more direct players than the tricky silky smooth artists like Silva. He has chosen the perfect team for his playstyle, we'll pursue a different type of player (if any) for wide options. People forget we have similar player of his profile (not saying better) in our squad. Mkhi, Mata being perfect examples of this.
It's all a moot point though because I believe we are not gonna sign James since Griezmann looks likely and Silva is off to City.
I am sure you'd argue we never wanted kante and mane and hazard and matic and sanchez as well.We never wanted the guy ffs

Mata is slow and not a winger , and Mkh is being overrated here, he looses the ball too many times in high pressure. It makes us go defensive.

Yes, Mkhi has not quite turned out to be the player we were all hoping. He is still neat and tidy and I am hoping the "takes a season to settle properly" thing is true.

You missed the point again, neither of them are wingers. Not Bernardo Silva either, he is not going to utilize width of the pitch or beat his full back and whip a cross in. He's likely to cut inside and play much more centrally in tandem with other Silva and KDB. Which is exactly what Lingard, Mata, Mkhi do when we play them on wing. We need a different type of option out wide, Silva is a great player but not the player we were in need of.
I've spent my lunch break catching up on this saga since page 49. Some mental meltdowns in here! I'm gutted we missed out on him as he's a magical player, but after reading some of the articles on show I think we were interested but it was never concrete and City's interest was, and that he was not one of the main targets Jose gave to Woodward. No you are missing the point, I know of bernardo silva's shortcommings against bus parking defenses , but when you play against the likes of pep and klopp and bayern and barcelona you need a player who can hold the ball better under pressure and circulate it. Or you need a bale or ronaldo to make off the ball attacking runs and passing range to release the pressure and strech the high line which is pressing to win the ball back.
We all saw what happened when city played at old trafford in the first half, we are just helping them playing second fiddle inthe market.

Yeah, agree about Mendy. I was watching this Monaco match once and he was attacking and I was like "Wow, that is great", and then the opposition made a simple counter and he was all over the place and was struggling to put in a simple tackle and that immediately made me doubt his defensive abilities.Yeah sure because he is so good defensively. He is worse then anyone we can field. Going forward he is great, but defensively a huge liability. Similar kind of player to Marcelo, just two steps down - both in the offense and defense.
Both tranfers won't make City a better team. Hope it continues like this

James does not suit us , at all. nither does sanchez and pogba can play together in a 4231.
Would have been a nice player to have, but not for that amount. I'd pay the extra £16-25m and grab a superstar in Griezmann.
