Maybe a new challenge is what he needs.
Hope he does well for them, except against us.

Think he will be a decent player for them, it will give him a push for another year or two being back at Everton. He obviously cant turn back the years, but being at Everton i think it will give him enough fire to be decent enough, better than for us for sure, which wont be difficult

Any words of goodbye to us from Rooney? Nothing on our website just quotes from Jose and Ed

Sad day and he'll remain one of the most exhilarating players I've watched. But it's the right decision for all parties (with the possible exception of Everton).

He'll have a chance of playing more football, and although I think he'll end up on their bench in a couple of months I do hope he can find a bit of form again and see out his career with dignity.

In hindsight Fergie was spot on with the timing of dropping him in 2013. That's when he should've left, probably.

Either way: Fantastic player and I'll cherish every magic moment he's given us. That's what we should remember on this day, not the shadow of himself he's been for a couple of seasons.

Thanks for the memories in the early days. No thanks for the last few years though and wanting out.

Not really fussed how he does at Everton. Succeed, fail, couldn't care less unless it's impacting on United.

It's a shame how it all worked out in the end. I wish I felt more about him leaving but I don't really feel the sadness some have seeing him in blue.

Best of luck to him. Hope he scores lots of goals, just not against United.

Going to keep an extra eye on Everton this season.

Happy for him. Right time to leave and right place to go. One of our best ever players.

Thanks for all the great moments Wayne!

Just when I saw this announced, VH1 decided to play Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love you. Good he's gone, too bad about the dust that got into my eyes though :(

It will be really interesting to see how it goes for him there with the infuriating aspect of observing him being finally lifted. Best of luck Wayne.

Nice one Wazza, I hope he does well next season.

You know he's scoring the winner at OT .

It feels like a massive weight has been lifted from Utd's shoulders. He was incredible at times for us but has declined at an insane rate. He hasn't had an excellent season since Fergie left and has been atrocious for the past three years. I think he is too far past it to reinvent himself but hopefully the new start will do him (and us) good.

Yeah I agree with this. Clearly this is the right move for all parties but I still feel sadness.

I wish him all the best. Will be very strange to see him playing against United.

Undoubtedly a legend. Forever grateful for the memories.

However, I don't think the transitional phase from young to old is as forgiving for forwards; particularly at the highest level and that's a shame really.

Hope he bangs a few past our rivals .

Wanted him to go for a while now. Feel quite sad about it now it's happened, but realise that the legendary player we'll miss hasn't been here for a long time.

I'm sure he'll still have a productive couple of seasons because he is a talented player, but his lack of mobility and the ease in which he is dispossessed left him unable to contribute beyond the goals/assists and a lot of those were from set pieces. In such a competitive sport it's ok to have those types of players when you are aiming for top 6-8, but to win the league you need to maximise your advantages all over the pitch.

Legend. Happy to see him back at Everton though.

I doubt he remains a starter for them either though. They'll learn soon enough he's not up to it.

Is it me, or is his shorter haircut making him look younger?
He looks younger.

Also the unveiling video which Everton did was a good one.

It's weird seeing him wear another clubs shirt. So used to seeing him in red.

I am sad to see him go. He is no doubt a club legend in my eyes. But the time is right for him to leave. I wish him nothing but the best at Everton.

I wish him the best of luck. His luck was never going to turn at Utd. The change of scenery will suit everyone.
