How would you feel if Rooney smashed it at Everton?

Unless motivation is some sort of performance enhancing drug that everton give him he isn't going to get his first touch and speed back and until he gets that back only thing he is going to smash is unsuspecting spectators sitting in the stands.

I'd be pretty annoyed actually.

It would show he lost all desire at United and couldn't be bothered.

His body is shot in my eyes, but if he regains anywhere near close to the ability he once had it would purely be down to not looking after himself/trying his best.

It wouldn't surprise me if he got a 2nd wind in his career.

I find the whole legs gone thing a strange concept. There are people running ultra marathons in their 40s! Surely fitness is just a case of how hard you work, or at least a very large part of it.
As a 40 something long distance athlete I'd say you're confusing speed and endurance. Two entirely different things.

I can run for 4 or 5 hours, but I'll never have that burst of acceleration needed to beat a world class defender onto a through ball.

Once it's gone, it's gone.

How many goals before Xmas or Dec 31st & how many in total?

Is the question/s to ask for prediction accuracy as to how his season will go generally (I reckon).

Will it be a strong start towards this 35 @RedTillI'mDead is predicting or the floodgates to the onion-bag opening later on when Wayne is fitter & sharper and properly settled in to his first serious Title chase in a few years.

Good luck to him. How a player performs in one environment isn't how he will perform in another. If he gets a new lease of life, or the manager plays a style that suits him perfectly and he bangs in 20 goals, that doesn't mean he would have done it for us. Good luck to him I say, as long as he doesn't score against us, I've no problem.

Its a funny old game
Hopefully it will give him a new lease of life. The last couple of seasons at United he just seemed to be burned out. I wish him luck. but not against us!

This is a great move for all concerned. We get Lukaku, Rooney gets to go home.

I predict that initially Rooney will start the stronger, which will be a to cue press and rival fans (and plenty of our own cynics too) jumping on their soap boxes shouting about what a huge mistake it was to let him go. Lets keep it real - Rooney has had a great career for Man Utd, we've had his best years no doubt about it. Going back to Everton WILL give him a new lease of life and he probably will do really well for them. That doesnt make it a mistake, its just human nature - stuff to prove etc

All the very best to him, his time at United was up, he needed to move on and he is back where his heart really is, so good luck to him, apart from when he plays United. He still deserves a good reception from the United fans though.
I hope he scores a hat-trick in his first Merseyside derby back at Everton to really stick it to Liverpool.

Where's the DOF?
Really pleased for him, why not? I don't think it will be a disaster, I don't think he's going to eat pies under a manager like Koeman, and if it's a success - I don't think it's because his attitude was bad/motivation poor at United. Good luck Wazza.

He's done at that level. If he manages to score 10 goals next season it would be huge success for him.
I don't think he is good enough for us anymore - but if he is playing regularly he will score 10-15 goals. If he had played regularly for us, he would have scored that amount of goals. Simply because he is still good at set-pieces and even if he has lost that extra pace, he can still strike the ball like few others.

He's had long enough here under 4 different managers to rediscover his best form and hasn't done it so even if he did 'smash it' at Everton it's fairly safe to say had he stayed with us it would have been more of what we've seen over the past 4 years

To answer the question though with my United hat on not arsed, for him and the league though it would be nice to see

I would think to myself; now there's a cow out on that field and it's better than the cow we've got in our field.

Like some others have said, I'd be really pleased for him. The past few seasons for us have not been so good but, for all he's done for Utd, I'd like to see him go out on a high with the club he grew up supporting.

I expect him to better at Everton than he has been for us because games will be more open. Provided he plays up front which looks likely, I could see him scoring 15-20 times this season which would be a great return for him.

So if he "smashes it" at Everton, I'd be chuffed...Although not if it's at our expense.

I'd say 'congrats, Sir Wayne. That 100 goals in a calendar year in 2018 really showed Messi and Ronaldo, and thanks also for the pivotal role you played in bringing the World Cup and European Championship back home in 2018 / 2020. Well done.'

That's what I'd say.

Its not impossible if he gets regular starts, which he hasn't really had at United for quite a while - its difficult for any player to put in good performances when they are in and out of the team, can't get any momentum, but particularly for a player like Rooney who needs to be playing regularly to maintain fitness, intensity, etc.

I think he'll do alright there to be honest.

Don't think you'll see him playing full 90 minutes, but I think he'll get a bit of that hunger back which he'd fully lost at United.

I'd say playing in the 10 position he'll get a combined 20 goals and assists which for Evertons level and someone that isn't playing 90 minutes will be a good return.

I'd be pleased for him if it did happen aswell. He's been great for us and I'd much prefer to see him doing well in the prem than some mediocre league like China or MLS.

I'd love him to score a winner against the scourers aswell, just imagine the anger they'd be spewing at it!

Would be chuffed for him. He wasn't going to get back with us. No hope. So hopefully he can do that at Everton. I have my doubts though.

You find the idea that people lose speed and acceleration as they age a strange concept?

He plays for a direct competitor so i hope he does shit. Some wierd fan boyism in this thread.

He's had enough chances here to turn it around so if he performs well now it's because he didn't put the effort in for us.

Yes speed and endurance have nothing to do with each other. Rooney's premature loss of fast twitch leg muscle may be genetic or it may have been caused by the wrong kind of training. It's hard to know. However once it's gone it doesn't come back.

I hope he generally does well, except against us. Hope he tears Spurs, Arsenal, City and Chelsea a new one and helps Everton finally beat Liverpool at Anfield with a jammy offside handball goal seconds after he should've been sent off.

I'd be surprised, I think he'll do OK with them but not great.
Might be better playing for a side that aren't playing midweek all the time or targets as high.
He does look in better shape in his signing photos though.

Very pleased. Provided he was shite against us, obviously.
Part of me wonders why we didn't do this as a loan. So if he does somehow get his shit together (with the newfound passion that comes with representing his boyhood club) then he can score against teams around us without ever lining up against us. Even if he stays at the same crap level he showed for us last season I'd say there's a huge chance he'll score against us. Ex players scoring against former clubs is such a common theme.

A loan would mean we would still be paying most if not all his wages.

The same way I'd feel if Bolivia are crowned WC winners next year - ain't going to happen.
