If some of those wasters from last season don't up their game there will be steam coming out of my ears. Lingard was atrocious. Pogba has to help his mate by not hitting the bar at every chance. Rashford has to bring more. Martial has to realise that when he gets a chance in the team he has to take it. We have to be a threat at corners and freekicks, which are a waste of time to us at the moment. Other teams are relieved when the ball goes for a corner against us. We need someone who can deliver a cross, someone who is a dead ball specialist. You knew Beckham would put the ball on a sixpence, that if we got a freekick with Ronaldo it was a surefire goal.
Good point.

I'm not convinced that signings alone are the answer.

It's our poor first teamers that are the biggest problem.

Look at Spurs last season with three players on 20 plus goals. That's what we need. Rashford only got 5 league goals last year. That's abysmal.

It's a strange situation tbh, Morata is a more of traditional United forward imo while Lukaku is more of a traditional Chelsea forward but both players ended in the opposite directions.
This, I feel like both would have been a better fit on the opposing team.

Straight swap next summer if they both fail.

Of course Jose is going to say that when asked a question about him. He can't very well say, "Well, we were really just fecking with Alvaro's head all along in order to needle Madrid and secretly undermine Chelsea's chase for Lukaku."

I'm sure we were in for Morata to an extent, but always as a Plan B if Lukaku didn't happen.
Let's just assume that the daft option is correct then.

Its not all about the signings, obviously I would like to see us sign a player or 2 more but some players to step up. On paper we have a good team, but they need to step up their games, so does Jose.
He had a whole year with the team, he knows them better now and I expect lot more of automatism and understanding in the way we play.

Yet some are saying as long as Lukaku scores. No, you need a couple in the 20's and another two in double figures and goals from all the others except DDG. Our CB's are no threat at all. The FB's are no threat at all. Oh for an Irwin.

Personally, I was excited by the prospect of having Morata and Griezmann up front for us this year - with Rashford for rotation/back-up. It's a shame we didn't get either.

Technically very proficient player, but I'll be surprised if he scores much more than 10 league goals next season. He will prove to be a good team player, as he's always been.

It's amazing how tall our team is yet we are so weak from set-pieces. I remember going into last season thinking how it would be one of biggest strengths.

Lukaku isn't the answer. He's just part of it. Still lots of work to be done. And the answer isnt just signings.

Great signing for them to be fair, I don't think he'll do for them what Costa did, but it's going to be interesting to see.

So, they accept 80M from chelsea but turn it down from us? Great. We should not sell DDG to these cretins at any price unless it's WC for a player.

What are the odds that Jose will emulate Fergie by intercepting Morata at the airport, like how we got Berbatov.

If we had got him and Chelsea had got Morata there would be cries we should have got Lukaku.

Grass is always greener somewhere else.

oh and Madrid are cnuts.
In all fairness at the time when it looked like Lukaku to Chelsea and Morata to United there were many people saying they felt that United got the better deal and I remember even quite a few post from Shed end (Chelsea forum) saying that they'd prefer Morata to Lukaku. Time will tell what the better business was.

It's 50/50 I feel. Some are pleased with Lukaku some wanted Morata. Probably it's the same with Chelsea fans.

For same price lukaku is less riskier signing but as per technical side of things morata had better creativity and hold up and link up play.

But I feel finishing wise and using both feet and of course physical presence and heading lukaku has the edge. And ofcourse knows the league well so no settling period.

Give peas a chance.

We’ve got the better Premier League striker, you know, the league we play in? The league where we’re desperate for a solid goalscorer.

Fair play to him if he comes to England and sets the world on fire, but there’s a similar chance that he’ll come here and flop. Just ask Spurs fans about Roberto Soldado. As it stands now, I’m much happier with a proven Premier League goalscorer who is still young and hasn’t (in my opinion) hit his ceiling yet.

Will be a great signing no doubt but what he brings is very different to Costa. Will be interesting to see if Conte changes up Chelsea's style.

But then I remember we have Jose so anything who was traditional to Chelsea before is now applicable to us.
By the way we had strikers like lukaku in Andy Cole and Yorke before.

Very different to Costa? I think he'll be very similar to costa but more technical.

Just one thought. In 92 we were after David Hurst but couldnt agree a price so we went after another target that came out of the blue: Eric Cantona. Maybe Morata > Lukaku happening is a good sign, and history will repeat itself.

That is what get's me. It isn't the league settling in period. It is the settling into Manchester United period. That is a different thing. It has done for a number of strikers who have come here from smaller teams. The expectation is huge. As others have said Lukaku is not entirely the answer to all our problems. Trouble is some fans and the media might expect him to be.

Morata is never worth that transfer fee and we were right to walk away.

I only hope know that Lukaku outperforms him, otherwise we'll just have a season of moaning to look forward to. No pressure.

Except Lukaku is more a David Hirst type.

In my mind this is a myth. All of our best buys have come from smaller sides.
I'm actually struggling to think of a striker who had big expectations and failed for us.
Falcao maybe. But then his injury is a massive reason why.
Even Berbatov scored goals for us.

Keep seeing people here saying same price as Lukaku but then see conflicting reports saying Lukaku may end up costing £90m rather than £75m. Which is it?

Going back, flavours of the month I think were, McDougall, Two Davies, Birtles, Davenport. Brazil was a let down.

We all love United
Morata is the better player, but i reckon Lukaku will end up scoring more goals than him when the season is done and dusted
