Going back, flavours of the month I think were, McDougall, Two Davies, Birtles, Davenport. Brazil was a let down.
That may as well be 100 years ago. The entire process of settling in is completely different, players don't have to lift a finger or stress over anything.

Forlan apart from a couple of Liverpool games.
Yeah but he wasn't under any pressure. Maybe if we signed him after his Spanish revival but we all knew he was a gamble more than someone we rely on. He was a tennis player longer than he was a footballer when we signed him!

Keep seeing people here saying same price as Lukaku but then see conflicting reports saying Lukaku may end up costing £90m rather than £75m. Which is it?
It's always the net cost that matters.

Everton valued Rooney at 10 m we valued him for free but also got rid of 15 m Rooney wages and the 15 m lukaku addones fill that net cost.

Chelsea can sell Costa and make money so they could afford to match inflated morata price while the net cost will be lesser for Chelsea .

I wanted Morata for his big game experience. We have Lukaku, would have preferred both as one is not enough. If we do not make a couple more signings it will be more of the same, or we have to hope we are still in touch when Ibra come back and that he is at full pelt when he does. We lacked goals last season and we are gambling that those players who failed last season all of a sudden become prolific. I think we will get more from Mhki, Rashford it will depends where or if he plays. Martial I am just not sure.

These smokescreens don't come cheap. Every time we use one , the selling club adds a 15million Euro smokescreen tax.

Ban smokescreens.

Yet we are the richest club in the world. I think it was just a matter of pettiness on both sides. Ed is trying to be the old wheeler dealer and has over paid for Lukaku.

If we don't get more out of Mkhi, martial and rashford, we can forget about the season right now.

Remember we still have to spend on griezmann. No one has unlimited funds not even Madrid who has to sell 3 players to fund mbappe , but can not afford de gea still.

Richest club in the world does not mean you get fleeced , always value for money is better.

I think it is no secret that United were his first choice but he shouldn't be too disappointed - he'll get regular first team football now.

The Griezmann boat has sailed.
He will not come here anymore.

It's hard to predict who'll have a better season between morata and lukaku. The former has been at two of the most successful clubs in Europe over the past few years and the latter is a proven premier league goalscorer.

I'm happy with Lukaku personally. If he keeps scoring in the premier league then we have made the right signing.

If it was vice versa (we signed morata and Chelsea signed lukaku) there would be similar thoughts of "we got the wrong one".

Let's wait and see.

Remember one of the reason Martial mkh rashford s best dint come out last season was a tactical reason. Ibra dint stretch the defense as a focal point and dint get in behind but still his build up was great still which dint help martial and rashford in the final third because of a slower transition and lack of directness resulting in lesser space in final third and also lack of balance.

Lukaku can stretch defenses and get in behind and is more mobile and a faster transition will result in more space in final third which mkh rashford and martial will thrive on.

How much we will see

No this season only, he will leave atletico when simeone goes next season and we are the strongest suiters as Bayern are not big spenders.

Griezman will be the next Herrera type signing which has high probability to occur still next season.

I would be surprised beyond belief if there isn't already an agreement for Griezmann to join us next summer. It would be absolutely bat shit to allow an open market on a player we chased so hard this summer. Obviously the likes of PSG could gazump our offer but Griezmann sounds like a man of his word.

We are back where we started though. The biggest disappointment for me is that we didn't get Griezmann. Now we will have to guarantee CL football again for him to sign. No pressure.

Don't think he wants to go to French league.

Ahh, good luck Alvaro. Sad to see him go but he's way too good to sit on the bench so much. Hope he does well in England.

Griezman and mkh can link up with rashford and lukaku.
Who knows; they could all link up great (assuming we do get Griezmann). With Morata and Griezmann, I was positive they'd somewhat rejuvinate our stale attack, though better coaching is also required. With Mkhi and Lukaku, I'm not sure. I was adamant last summer that Mkhi wasn't what we needed and I've yet to see otherwise bar a decent run of form. He should hopefully have a better season this year, though; having settled in and also you'd assume he won't be frozen out of the squad for 1/3 of the season.

With Lukaku, I was for signing him because we need some goalscorers and he's proven at that, but his general play, whilst isn't terrible, leaves a lot to be desired.

Di Marzio says the fee is around 80-85m euros.

Upset about this.... anyway good luck to the lad except when he plays against us. Think Chelsea have got the better player but I guess we'll see.

No problem, reality is Morata
knows he was Chelsea's second choice, and Chelsea know they were Morata's second choice (at best).

Sadly I do wonder if we might see a DDG bid now Madrid have some spare funds.
