Everyone could see how talented he was. We should be beating Dortmund for these guys before they blow up a year or so later. That's what we pay scouts for and the financial advantage we should have being able to do things in the market.
Martial?

This kid was heavily linked to United before his move to Dortmund. Would still love to have him here, or Breel Embolo

Pity.. Barca getting yet another brilliant youngster.

He will be on Neymars level, I have no doubts.

I still do not why Dortmund would sell. He has a lot of years left on his contract and no buyout clause. No reason to sell him now and I doubt Dembele would throw a fuss.

Theyre a very good selling club. They buy cheap, develop players tio their maximum resale value and then sell. Theyre basically the german athletico madrid. The fact tbat they remain competitive is a compliment to their scouting and coaching.

In a way, them being willing sellers is a great attraction point to promising young footballers. They know they can come in, get great training and lots of time on the pitch to develop. And when a big club comes calling, they will be allowed to make the step up with minimal hassle.

If I was Ed I'd outbid whatever Barca bid and make it as hard as possible for them to get this done.
Demeble is better than Mbappe in my opinion.

We tried, just as other big clubs. He chose Dortmund.

They were forced to sell other guys because they ran down their contract or buyout clauses. Not the case here. They can stand their ground on this one.

He could force the move though if his head has been turned, practically do a Tevez on them.
Fans usually turn against players who do that. Is he ready for the backlash? Plus Dortmund always put up fight. People call them a selling club but, they always kick up a fuss. Remember all the petty remarks from the board about Mkhi, Hunmels and Gundogan last year?

Why would he give a feck about what the Dortmund fans think when he's got the opportunity to play for a great club and beside an all time great like Messi? The only way Dortmund are letting him go is if he forces it and does so decisively imo.

I agree on Dembele over Mbappe right now for sure.
Still not sure about the asking price but on the other hand with the Neymar transfer the last bit of rationality has gone out of the window.

In terms of attitude, and style of play, Dembele would be our best option (apart from my ideal Mahrez signing- think he's going to drift off sadly as needs a Mourinho- style manager). I'd take Dembele over Neymar, who's career has taken him backwards at aged 25 to Europe's 5th best league. Dembele is the kind of player who gets fans off their seats. I don't think it's budgeted for though and we do still operate within our means (usually).

I don't think we have that kind of money left.

Honestly find it cringeworthy people saying we should make a move for him now. He's got Real and Barca after him, our window of opportunity is well and truly shut. It's Arsenal level going after players you know you have no hope of getting.

Not seeing that at all. Neymar is easily a superior technical footballer.
Neymar showboats a lot but that doesn't mean he's 'easily' a superior technical footballer. Dembelè can wreak havoc on any team. He's the definition of ambidextrous which makes him unpredictable and a pain in the a*s for defenders/keepers. He can also play on either side of a forward line. I personally think Dembelè has a higher ceiling. I'd take him over Neymar any day of the week.

Does anyone recall the goal he scored against us last summer? He put Rojo on his a*s.

Dont think it works like that mate.
All the speculation before the summer was that we were in for four players + Greizmann. We have signed three. I'm not seeing how we are skint.

I just don't see it at all. From what I have seen of Dembele he is really erratic. Neymar is a much more gifted player IMO.

Dembele is talented no doubt. I will take nothing away from the kid (even though I think he tends to be erratic). But I am of the opinion that Neymar is on another level. By 17, Neymar was already a dominant force for Santos and was recognized globally as a rising super star. He won the South American Player of the year award twice before he was 21 (Dembele is currently 20). He played 103 games for Santos and scored 54 (while winning the Copa Libertadores) before leaving them at 21. It was not just his stats, that stunned the world, it was his sheer footballing genius and technical abilities at such a young age.

Neymar is under rated. His curse is to have arrived at the world stage when football's greatest players of their generation - Messi and Ronaldo - were at the peak of their powers.

I said it back then, he should never have gone to Barcelona where Messi was and is still long. He needed a different platform that would make him stand out. He has made the right move leaving Barcelona. I'm not just sure he made the right choice settling for PSG. Time will tell.

A lot of chatter on Twitter on him having agreed personal terms with Barsa. No agreement with Dortmund yet though. Who knows if they want to sell in this window.

I don't think he had much of a choice as no other club would be stupid enough to pay so much money for a player.

It's not stupid if you can afford it very easily. It's all relative.

I've not seen much of either but from what little I have seen I agree, Dembele looks the better player

It's known he favours Barca. I don't think we ought to get involved, just to get shut down. There's absolutely no point.

There's also the very pivotal point people [intentionally?] ignore that Mourinho just might not be interested in him. Irrespective of how good Dembele is or could be, he already has two very young attackers who naturally have struggled with consistency. He's never historically been one to stockpile his attack on such young players either.

We could afford it within our own means in terms of revenue, but we aren't stupid enough to spunk that much on a player.
Not sure we could, and not sure we didn't try. Even if we could, their fortune trumps us by multiple times, for them it's a drop in the ocean. If to me buying Neymar for my club hurts my money flow as much as the average man going out for lunch, yeah I would do it.

I remember that I wanted Draxler and Dembele when they were in Wolfsburg and Rennes.

How much Dortmund paid for Dembele?

I find it quite amusing that people rate Dembele over Mbappe. Dembele isn't even close and hasn't proven anything yet. He's like a headless chicken out there. No end product. Mbappe is effective and smart, Dembele isn't and thats the BIG difference.

No doubt Mbappe's more efficient and has better decision-making at this stage, but that's not often a strong predictor of potential - the same was true of Rooney vs. Ronaldo at that time. If Dembele matures to become more efficient and effective then, combined with his raw talent, it's entirely possible he could be a Ballon d'Or winner. Though I agree with you that Mbappe looks better.
