Let him enjoy his football. We got the best years out of him so why slag him off?

He's gone, he's shit, we get it. It just makes us look bush-league by laughing at how shit he is. This guy is our all time top scorer. He was brilliant at one point.

True, but he thinks he's still got it, which he obviously hasn't.

A while back, maybe.

Now? I think he knows he's shit personally. He didn't kick up a fuss about Mourinho exiling him from the starting 11. The old Rooney would have got his wife to complain on Twitter.

Stop being so precious. His enjoyment of football isn't dependant on us not laughing at him on an Internet forum.

But it makes anyone laughing at our top scorer look like an idiot.

Players grow old and with the amount of games rooney has played any player would be losing their legs. I don't understand why people are having a laugh about it considering he's helped us won so many tities and given us so many happy moments on the pitch.

Still think he's going to surprise people oncd the season starts and do well for everton

Nonsense. Plenty of players have played more games than Rooney and are still functioning footballers.

Who the feck is laughing at him? People are allowed to speak about his performances for Everton and be critical. FFS what a precious bunch we have on here these days.

In a way it's sad. Occasionally you see a glimpse of defeat in his eyes and you know he must be thinking 'Christ, I've gone from running rings around Milan, Arsenal and City to struggling against a team from Slovakia'

I struggle to feel much sympathy though and I think one of the main reasons Utd fans feel a little vindictive toward Rooney is that we had to sit and watch crap performance after crap performance for 3/4 years whilst feeling like we were all slowly losing our marbles because our management couldn't see what was so obvious. Wasn't like he was a bit part player, he played every minute of every game running around like some bloke who had won a competition to get on during a pre-season game. I think fans of rival clubs struggle to understand what we were saying at the time, we weren't saying he had declined a little or lost a yard of pace, we weren't saying he is a decent squad player or will make an impact off the bench. We were saying this guy is totally and completely finished at any sort of reasonable level and it was so frustrating!

That probably isn't his fault, but it has soured all the good times for me
Nail on the head.

Funny thing is I was talking to a mate of mine who is a Derby fan about Rooney. I was saying Rooney will be on the bench at Everton by Christmas and gone next summer. My mate said "Rooney is just a slow starter, needs a run of games and will come good around October/November". Then went on to explain how Rooney just needs to play #9, which apparently he never got the opportunity to do at Utd, needs players around him with pace who are on his wavelength and that he has been made a scapegoat for Utd's struggles in the league.

I thought "my God its RedCafe 2014"! I have never known a player have so many excuses made for him to forgive 4yrs without one good game

If he was poor for United(putting it mildly) how does the logic work that moving to a worse team surrounded by players of a lesser ability will somehow help him do well?

More actually. Not sure there are many still at top level that have played more than Rooney though.
When counting games for the 'he's played too many, of course he's burnt out' theory, you should probably deduct about 100 from Rooney's total considering his legs went ages ago.

That really isn't that bad.
It is bad though.

Why's he trying to chip a 6ft odd keeper who's stood on his line from the edge of the box?

For someone good at chips that would be an incredibly difficult shot to pull off, never mind someone like Rooney who has tried it at least once a game unsuccessfully for 10 years.

Surely, Ronaldo has played as many games as Rooney?
37 more matches than Rooney in his career. Messi has played one game less than Rooney. Ibra has played 81 more matches than Rooney. Iniesta has 46 more matches than Rooney. Dani Alves has 49 more matches than Rooney. Buffon has 244 more matches than Rooney but he is a keeper so it is a bit different.

The chip is quite pointless but his involvement in the build up was very good. First touch and then getting himself quickly in that position.

Although, everything I mention is another proof how he's fallen because I was genuinely surprised by the way he played that ball in the build up.

It's unhealthy feeling mortally offended about a random persons opinion.
Not offended at all. Out of sight, out of mind for me.

I was just surprised by how much activity this thread is seeing especially with the barrage of 'lol he is so shit' posts. I hadn't been on here since before his move.

Rooney - 31 years old, Total games played 757

Messi - 30 years old, total games played 756
Ronaldo - 32 years old, total games played 862

By the end of the season they will have probably played more than Rooney. So yeah....no.

His performance gained some attention as it was bad. This thread is being used to track him now he's moved on. People will have their opinion - even if it's simple.

What you reckon we're meant to be discussing in here? His hair? His preference for the elderly?

I can think of so many things I can do that are less boring than discussing the merit of discussing Rooney, so let's leave it at that.

How many matches did Giggs end up on?
