Great player. Gutted he doesn't play for us.

I'd love it if he ran down his contract and we did a RvP for him. Imagine backing Liverpool into a corner and either forcing them to sell or taking him for free.

At Southampton I didn't think he was anything more than a kick and run merchant, how wrong was I.

Can't see how you could see that really, he was really good at Southampton and scored pretty regularly against the big teams.

It was clear he was going to be a good player, I was amazed we didn't go for him after being linked so heavily.

I remember a lot on here thinking we did the better business signing Depay for £25m rather than Mane for £34m.

That doesn't mean much though, many on here didn't want Pogba, Lukaku or Ibra

Depay certainly looked good in Holland, but having Mane for the right side would have been ideal IMO.

I don't. The comparisons were Depay vs Firmino who Liverpool signed when we pipped them to Depay's signature.

Depay looked a real talent, and you can never really predict who will flop. I wouldn't say I regret us signing Depay but damn does £34m look like a steal now.

Admittedly I was wrong about Mane at Southampton. At that time, he looked like he was all pace and no brain from the bits I saw of him. That seemed to be a fairly common opinion, as well as the usual "not at the level we aspire to be" that seems to crop up with every player not already at a top club. Even the press were a bit shocked at us bidding £35m on him. I'm certain it was deemed a panic bid after the Pedro fiasco.

Right now, I'd rather us spend £100m on Mane than get Pedro for free. Mane is 10 times the player, and one of the best wingers/forwards in the league.

He was inconsistent though for Soton, definitely not the player he is now at Pool, he step up his game and now looks to be one of the best winger in the EPL

Yeah he's improved for sure, but the talent was always there. I guess at the time we didn't buy Africans maybe because of the AFCON tournament.

Once Coutinho hits form, their attack will be frightening. Can see Liverpool having a season like 13-14.
I was waiting for this. Every feckin year around this time some here have their annual wank about Liverpool like clockwork. And every year Liverpool are still shite. Klopp will need more than six year just to win the lesser cups. Just watch as their season end without mane over the next three games.

Because of his nationality he's not seen as the sexiest name at Liverpool but I bet you their fans would keep him over Coutinho any day of the week.
Was just thinking this. If he were brazilian he'd be seen as one of the best players in the world and every big club would be in for him.

One could argue Mahrez has suffered from a similar sort of discrimination in that respect (albeit I don't rate him as high as Mane) - if he was english, guaranteed would have secured a big move by now.

I'm not saying he wasn't a clear talent, but no way did I see him being the best player at Liverpool. He was too much of a loose cannon at Southampton and he's really sharpened up on the finer aspects of his game since.

I think what happened at Southampton was that he gave up half way in the season after he wanted to leave in January. Supposedly, something similar happened at Salzburg when he was prepping himself for the Saints move. If he has one major flaw, it seems like this might be it.

Agree on the last point but have also seen Liverpool bogged down whenever teams go to Anfield.. and he's the only player who consistently looks threatening. Big player in the making.. he is already outgrowing the club. Because of his nationality he's not seen as the sexiest name at Liverpool but I bet you their fans would keep him over Coutinho any day of the week.
Of course, his pedigree is beyond question. He is strong, fast and has great control while running at pace and would definitely make most teams stronger.

Really surprised at how great he's been and that he's well on his way to establish himself as our most important player. While I thought he was a good buy, I never expected him to be this good.

until he has a season like Bale did at Spurs, please calm down
He doesn't need to have a season like Bale at Spurs.. Bale is a better goalscorer but Mane has superior ball carrying ability and can tun defence into attack more often as he has better footwork/agility and close control/slide through passing on the run.

I don't think Mane can hit Bale's peak, but I can see him being a Riberyesque game-changer on the flank for a big side, who whilst not hitting great numbers statistically has a profound influence over the flow of any given game.

Really? I hope the same thing happens, just for the laughs, even it means United finish below them. Dude thats the best season in recent memory where united didnt win the league. They were hillarious. That slip, that suarez tears, meltdown, title winning bus, the shirts. I dont mind at all.

He's great.

I can see Bayern sniffing about him, he'd be a good replacement for the aging Robben/Ribery.

Top 3 player in the EPL right now.
Really? Hazard, Jesus, Aguero, Rashford, Lukaku, Willian ...Kane I could go on and on...I love Mane and wanted him here from Southampton but some of the posts on here are ridiculous

Mane is better than Rashford and Willian ffs. Neither of them are even guaranteed starters in their own team.

Problem is many peoples bias for their own club completely blinds them to the quality of a footballer who may play for a rival. Might not be top 3 in EPL but certainly ahead of Martial and Rashford at this moment in time.

He's a fantastic player and fits well into Klopp's system. We'll miss him while he serves his ban.

He's a world class footballer in the making. The tier below Neymar in terms of left wingers but up there with best of the rest. How I wish we had him at left wing instead of Martial and Rashford.

Fecking hell.

We need to talk about ____ threads aren't as common as I thought here. The curious case of ____ have been more frequent.

Anyway, he's a fantastic player and more consistent than most pacey wide players. Quiet performances have become a rare occurrence.
One of the best players in the league and Liverpool's best player by a landslide.

But you could argue that rashford and martial are not proper wingers and more of a strikers who could play on the left as wingers. Mane is an out and out winger.

Also Martial would have the same effect in a posession based total football philosophy LVG and klopp has compared to what mourinho is asking from him which is different to his natural game. But mane 's natural game suits any philosophy out there.
