Imagine not thinking he's the GOAT :houllier:

Imagine thinking he's on a decline because he's *gasp* 30

Imagine thinking Neymar was a big loss

And that Cristiano deserves the Balon D'Or because he won more trophies and not individual performance in a calendar year. What a joke...

Neymar is still a big loss and Cristiano still deserves his Ballon D'Or, because of his individual performances in the key CL features. Save your gasps.

Spot on. It's been like that for the past 10 years, win something, you win regardless of performances. Why change now after Messi scored 4 goals?

He may not be the GOAT, very hard to tell but surely since Maradonna or along with Maradonna, he is the best ever.

That 2nd goal, what kind of crazy precision is that? I hold an urge against Barcelona for letting him have a more creating role the past few years, his finishing is the best I have ever seen.

One significant moment is the Denis Suarez goal. Messi of the past years would likely pass it to Denis, but he had a decent angle and he decided to try it for himself. It might be a sign of his hunger and him being a bit more selfish now Neymar has left and Suarez has lost form, he needs to carry Barcelona now and he can do that best when he is aggressive and hungry for goals. Still think the pass would be the best option.

But aftee the ball rebounded to Denis, look how quick he immediately took the right position, preparing for a lay off from Denis Suarez. How can his reaction be so quick and immediately that focus/instinct on what to do.

Yes that second, barely any space, surrounded by three defenders and he hardly used any backlift. Only surgeon precision to pass ball in the tightest gap in the corner
corner.
And this is not one off, Messi does this so many times.
Such a tough goal to score, may look simple. But there are very few strikers, so few we can count in fingerswho can do that regularly like Messing does.

Currently I dont think there is any. Ronaldo is a great finisher, but I doubt he is capable of that. He can score from everywhere in the box and in various ways but I dont think I have really seen that precision from him.

I thought Messi's goal output had dropped because of his age or something. But it looks like him allowing Suarez to play as the central striker is the reason for that. This is what happens when the best finisher and the best playmaker are the same guy!

I personally find it kind of uninteresting now to hear he has knocked X amount of goals past another La Liga team that's entire yearly budget is less than his salary for the tenth time.

He's the best player ever but at this stage I would love to see him conquer a new league.

If the Barcelona manager continues to drop Suarez and put Messi in his false nine position then I think he'll have a lot more matches like this.

I wonder if 4 goals against Eibar or 3 against Bayern is more impressive.

what ever positive happens at Barca this season i dont think its going to be related to Neymar leaving. They changed the coach and formation so thats the biggest change and they pretty much replaced Neymar with lesser version in Dembele + they have the utter crap version in Deulofeu.
Messi was controlling the games as much as he wanted and played the same way he plays now when Neymar was in the team. They had great relationship both on and off the pitch.
Yeah i meant in terms of individual benefit for Messi not overall team play, obviously any team losing Neymar will feel it.

Did Barca score a goal this season from open play which didn't involve Messi assisting or scoring from his rebounds.

For me he doesn't have to conquer a new league. I'm just underwhelmed with what Messi has shown in the CL knockout stages since the 2015 final. I'd like to see him shine again.

Messi didn't really outperform or outscore Ronaldo in calendar year 2017, they are pretty much at same level, with Ronaldo scoring more important goals in crucial matches and winning more trophies.

No team has won more trophies over the last decade than Barcelona

Imagine thinking that Messi's goals don't mean much because they are playing cannon fodder week in week out.

Scored 54 goals in 52 games last season for Barca, playing with Suarez and Neymar. Makes me curious what exactly led you to think his goal output had dropped :p

Sorry, I forgot that I was among Cristiano FC fans. I should know my place to never disrespect a club legend.
I think you forgot that everyone has an opinion and you've let your biased view come in the way. Saying Messi is the goat is one thing - he may be, who knows. But to ridicule people who don't believe that just shows who the bigger fanboi is here

Come on now. You've got as big a crush on Ronaldo as anyone here. You are more bitter about and hate Barcelona more than bloody Liverpool (I'm sorry, I still find it funny). Of all posters, I dont think you can bring that one up.

As much you want it to be, this isn't some Lionel Messi fan club echo chamber where any criticism aimed at him amounts to derailing the thread. Messi isn't immune to criticism, no one is. Deal with it.

Messi is like Ronaldo, Xavi, Iniesta, Zidane and Berkamp all in one tiny player.

Ronaldo is just Ronaldo.

Unfair comparison imho.

It's true Ronaldo is probably my favorite player of all time but I am never going to laugh at anyone that disagrees. Glad you find who I dislike as a team more funny even though it is irrelevant here.

Are you saying I derailed the thread? Don't see how
