When your whole defensive approach is built around positioning yourself up high and disrupting attacks through minimizing space before they even take off then it's not exactly as simple as just falling back a few meters, because that means either your pressing line falls back with them, meaning your entire defensive approach changes or they stay up and offer up space between the lines.

It's not such a silly way of judging tactics, you set up tactics to win a game, and you lost. Bosz made a mistake, it's not the referee who made you concede two goals in two half chances as you said, and even at 2:2 i still think you would have lost the game by the end.

It's odd because it terms of personnel, I've always thought they'd be better to sit a bit deeper and then spring forward and fully utilise the pace of Aubameyang and Reus on the break, rather than the more possession based approach they've used since Tuchel (and to an extent Klopp moved to towards the end of his reign).

Simply impossible in the league. The teams are way too defensively compact - you will not get any space to do that.

Begs the question considering over last two years Dortmund have re-signed Kagawa, Gotze, Schurrle, Yarmelenko, Max Phillipe etc when they already had PEA, Reus and Pulisic coming through....why didn't they divert some of those resources on some top quality defenders and keeper.

Is their a top level european team out there who gifts the opposition as many cheap goals as they do? Remember last season in the first leg v Monaco when Sokratis when in possession just passed straight to Mbappe and we know the rest. The goals Burki let in against Spurs were awful aswell.

Be interested what the Dortmund fans think. There were gettable CBs out there, Manolas at Roma nearly went to Zenit this summer so surely that's someone Dortmund could've targeted.

Even Kamil Gilk, was excellent for Monaco last season and we've seen you can sign players from Monaco if you want.

Having sub par defenders is why they can't challenge Bayern. A shame as they play great football when it all clicks in the final third. Just seems a team that unnecessarily overloads upfront and neglects the defensive side, just like Liverpool.
