I dont think people realise how good he is. Will be a big loss for liverpool, i think he is already close to world class and will get better at barca. Think if he has a good world cup(which i think he willl be a star of), he will be in top5 list of ballon d'or. Technically great, i think barca are getting their heir to iniesta and what a player. Always my choice of a player i wish i could get from any other prem team.

I’m still shocked that we’re letting him go mid season. We have to sign another attacker now.

Mahrez would be worth a go.
Is Coutinho genuinely that good to merit that kind of fee?
I’d day he is worth it considering he’s just about to enter his prime, and is starting to consistently show how good he is.

What has changed? Why all the posts from Liverpool fans as if the deal is done for Jan?

Almost impossible for him to make it into the top 5 list next year, Ney, Leo and Cris are locked options, without UCL football until the next November, Coutinho would need to do something really great in the world cup to appear in the top 5, basically outplay Neymar in Brazil

Even some of the Liverpool ITK journalists like Bascombe and Melissa Reddy are indicating that the club has softened its stance.

Seems like we’ve decided to take the money and let Coutinho go. I was hoping we’d hold on until the summer.

Liverpool fans buzzing over the 140m, not realising that they’ve already spent 75m of it on a Southampton centre back and probably Naby Keita aswell.

In typical Liverpool fashion, the replacement will likely be somebody like Lanzini.

Lanzini is more than a decent replacement IMO. Very underrated player whom Klopp can take to the next level.

Meanwhile, over in RAWKland, the natives are discussing reinvesting the Coutinho money in Griezmann and Lemar.

God, where would we be without that legendary Scouse wit?

I mentioned Lanzini here months ago when the Coutinho talk first emerged but nobody paid it any heed. I think he'd be an excellent replacement for Coutinho and plenty to his game which would appeal to Klopp.

This will be another big fee to add to the crazy numbers in 2017 we just saw but I don't see how Liverpool can replace him. Most of that money will probably be already assigned (VVD, Keita, Fenway's pockets) and who is out there that can replace him? Broadly speaking Klopp looks to be transitioning to a more typical team structure to address the defensive issues (assuming Keita will be deployed in a DM type role) so a creative force like Coutinho becomes even more important.

I reckon they could certainly get Lemar especially if Arsenal don’t move for him. Top 4 EPL team, almost guaranteed starting place, an attacking team, will get a decent pay rise too. The French Connection at Arse and London might tempt him more but I can’t see any stronger suitors in the short term.

It's certainly a big chunk of the money you've spent on VVD.

Think the fact is he simply has to go now.

It explains why Liverpool are paying £75m for a defender. No way do they pay that without the sale of Coutinho.

Coutinho for VVD and Keita. Due to the emergence of Salah that trade isn't that bad. However, there may be a creative problem.

The team usually needs 2-3 creative sources, Liverpool have Firminho as a false 9, who else can create if Coutinho leaves?

Great move for the Cout, must be difficult for Liverpool fans losing a great player to Barca again but I'm sure they can agree that it's a move he has to make.
Pretty much, absolutely woeful timing though. I have no idea why this couldn't have waited 6months. Fact is though if you want to keep top players you have to win trophies and he's been here 5 years and seen us fail consistently under FSG. I rate him extremely highly and there's no way we can replace him but we need to ensure we get another player in who can eventually reach his level. It's a massive blow though.

You have a knack of replacing your best players well though.

Whoever they buy to replace will turn out to be quality no doubt. Suarez, Coutinho, Mane, Firmino, Salah... their transfer record for attacking players is infuriatingly excellent last few years.

Of course, but I was hoping it would happen in the summer.

Losing one of our best players midway through the season is damaging.

You're fortunate to have a manager who can galvanise your squad if he does leave this window. I'd still back you to finish top 4 with or without Coutinho.

Agreed. Liverpool do seem to have a knack of making above average attacking players look like world beaters.

I'd honestly rather have the £140m. Good player but if Liverpool invest wisely they will be a force again next season.
You probably haven't watch enough of Coutinho the boy is a magician with the ball, Liverpool will struggle replacing him no matter the money. For me he's top 10 player in the world right now.

Yeah. The next level down.

Bye bye Coutinho. The classy Lollypoolers are, of course, changing his name to 'C**tinho'. Best fans in the wayyyyyyyyyrld.

He's good, like I said. But I reckon they can improve with the money. Llalana was probably better than him every time I watched them last season and Mane got more plaudits too. I don't think he's going to be a huge miss providing they don't have a massive Andy Carroll style meltdown in the transfer market. They've already started filling in the gaps in their team.

Messi
Ronaldo
Neymar
Lewandowski
KDB
Hazard
Dybala
Griezmann
Kane

Then there is Suarez, Isco, Kroos, Modric, Salah, James, Muller, Thiago Alcantara, Bale, Cavani, Di Maria, Aguero, Veratti, Mbappe, Pastore, Sterling at the moment,

The 8 listed at the top are all better, then take your pick of the rest of the ones listed and Coutinho does not become top 10 in the world at all. I didn’t name defenders or GK cos cant compare them positions.

To be honest, I think it's just that our attacking signings have been so pathetic in recent years for the wages and fees we pay - ADM, Falcao, Depay, to a lesser extent Ibrahimovic - that it makes Liverpool's forward signings seem even better.

I'd say they make good, logical, sensible signings (Mané, Firmino, Suarez) with moments of surprise brilliance (Salah, Coutinho) and moments of utter fail (Carroll, Poulsen, Charlie Adam), which really is what big clubs with highly paid scouts should do.

It's our own poor signings in attack over recent years that highlight the bright ones for Liverpool.

I'd honestly rather have the £140m. Good player but if Liverpool invest wisely they will be a force again next season.
Remember they've already spunked more than half of it on VVD, not saying he won't come good, but it's still a lot.

Seen some Pool fans unhappy with the fee? 100 + an easy 40 million is being lowballed?!
