Liverpool PR man James pearce says Coutinho wont wait any longer and wont stay rest of the season, this looks to be done. Will be interesting to note what the actual fee will be.

Briefing journos fully under way

"look we offered more, but evil coutinho said no"

Coutinho and Hazard fecking off would be brilliant.
Why?

Don’t you want top talent in the PL?

I think it’s tragic myself. I thought we were on an upward trajectory after a near-decade or the Spanish two gobbling up all the top players.

Yeah having talent in the league is great, but those two are running the respective attacks of their clubs, especially Hazard, so I'd rather see a rival weakened.

The appeal of the league will still be there, since there are 6 or so clubs to spread the stars out between, compared to the two in Spain.

After Ronnie and Messi are done much of the appeal in La Liga is gone anyways, they can spend on all the Dembele's, Dybala's and Hazard's they want, they won't ever come near.

I’d rather we didn’t win things by being the least worse while the best in Europe gobble up the league’s talent.

I love watching games with star players in.

United v Liverpool should have several world class players involved at least, every time. It hasn’t for maybe a decade now unfortunately.

I agree re; Messi and Ronaldo. The interest, glamour and prestige they have brought to those two teams will never be replicated. It helps them get top players now, and will leave a lasting legacy.

When they go, La Liga will really struggle to keep remotely apace of The PLs popularity. They are miles off already.

United’s dire football of the past five plus years has knocke four prestige massively. The hangover from this will be felt for a long time. In ten years, the new whizzkids would have grown up watching Barca or even City, not United. And will want to play for them, not us, most likely.

Pogba has just become the 4th most expensive player. He was first in 2016. :houllier:

Silly amount of money for a player like Coutinho
The money is ridiculous but I can't see anyone capable of replacing Ineista better than Coutinho.

If they get Griezmann in summer they'll be a complete team again. A midfield of Busquets, Paulinho and Coutinho with a front 3 of Dembele, Messi and Griezmann.

We'll see what everyone claims in the end, Barcelona side seem to claim €120m up front and €40m in performance based incentives

Really hoping they've accounted for that fee in the Keita/VVD signings - that would make it even sweeter.

Good signing for Barca. Their starting XI has few players wrong side of 30. Still think they need a couple of young CB's though.

Will hurt Liverpool this. They dont have anyone else in their squad who can play the same role. (Please no Lallana jokes)

Barcelona has just spent 248m on 2 players though. They used that Neymar money well!

What do resident Barca fans feel about this deal?

Will Pool now go an buy a goalkeeper?

Very odd time to sell if true.

I suppose Barca want it all tied up before the summer with the World Cup and everything. Just seems a crazy time to lose him if you're Liverpool. Glad to see the fecker go though.

Honestly, this is the best I could have hoped for. Sure its a bit costly but that was inevitable.

We have a huge problem in midfield and needed a WC upgrade imminently.

Couldn't have thought of a better attacking midfielder to join us.

I’ll miss you Phil. :(

I think he’ll be great in Spain, fantastic move for him.

We have to sign someone now to replace him. I’m still shocked that we’ve agreed this in January but it seems like the money and Coutinho’s willingness to join them was too much.

Signed for £8.5 million I think, sold for £142 million.

This explains the VVD transfer.

I seriously can't wrap my head around that price. You can make a legitimate case that he isn't even one of the 8-10 best players in the PL! And he'll cost nearly £150m!
