They may have been told back in the summer that Sanchez only wanted to move to City.

They may also have been told in the last few days that something has changed and he was open to a move to United.
I agree something has changed, whether it has any impact on the outcome who knows. I think Utd have bidded and now the ball is in city's court to purchase a player that they hoped would cost them nothing in the summer. I'm also wonder whether it's so cut and dry as in the summer 2017 there was talk of Sterling moving and questions about Aguero's future due to lack of playing time.

I would be extremely surprised if anything came of this, his career so far says he is terrible at choosing the right move when it presents itself so he will see out the remains of his career on Citys bench after they use him to get over this lean spell upfront.

Not sure how true, but heard he'll have Alex Sanchez on the back of his shirt at United, hence the panic buying of X's and Z's
I've heard he wants to play with Alexis Texaz on his shirt. Not sure how true by the way, but that doesn't stop me from loggin into an internet forum, typing that shite and hitting the send button.

It is worth a try but I can't see him choosing us over City and ultimately it will come down to him and not Arsenal.

As painful as it is we have to adjust to the new order that most players will choose them over us if it comes to picking between the two.

I guess its just Wenger and Arsenal who try to raise the price. Maybe there is no truth in United rumours. They try to get 30 million for Sanchez and City is ready to pay 20, or so.

They might have Aguero, Sanchez and Bernardo Silva on the bench. Ridiculous

I wouldn't put this past agent mischief.

Seems city were fine waiting till the summer, but Alexis probably sees a league medal going away and what better way to kick City into gear than mention us being in for him.

He turned 29 less than a month ago. He'll be 30 right at the end of the year.
If you are a top player do you want a title that others have earned or do you want a title that you have a played a big role in? City already have the title in the bag, it won't be because of any special contribution that Sanchez will make in the 4 months with them.
Its wishful thinking to rationalize Sanchez choosing the comparably hard path, even though you might argue there's greater glory at the end of it. He's just had years of underachieving frustration with one stalling big club. He's unlikely to choose to decamp to another. He'll see a few post prime years of major success at City as his career's reward.

We sign Sanchez and he plays off the left of the 3 behind Lukaku, leaving Martial and Rashford where exactly? He's 28/29, will be on big money and will be around for 2/3 years. As good as he is, I just don't think we need him.

Is there any chance that City planned to take Sanchez on a free at the end of the season, and that Sanchez was ready to wait, but that Sterling, Sane etc. have just done so well that City don't want to rock the boat? That he's decided he now wants to leave in this window, but City are hesitant? That we got word of this and reminded him that he's got options... somewhere that he'd be loved.

Absolutely clueless. You think he would be on the bench at City? Absolutely walks into their team as a guranteed starter. Also what I ascertain from the guy is that he wants to win trophies. At the age of 29 he has a better chance to do that at City rather than Utd over the next 2-3 years.

I can't get on board with this but it's good at least to scare City a little and possibly drive the price up. I'd only want him here if it didn't have a negative impact on Martial's development.

If only we had a Liverpool-supporting expert on South America who could tell us what Sanchez intends...

City are the new Chelsea of old buying players so no one else can do. They roll the dice but there's a lot of players that need football and like I said, it's nit the summer of 2017 where there was talk of Sterling going the other way....

Another angle could be, United trying to spread a little bit of mischief City's way........
Sanchez to City or United grabs all the headlines, meanwhile we quietly go about business behind the scenes and sign our real target whilst everyone is looking the other way....?

2/3 more than Arsenal is my point.
Well they did win one. My point is that we are hardly on a smooth upward ascent in the big comps. City are close to the peak. A slightly aging athlete might choose the easier path.

Pushing the price up for City is such a pointless "win" to take from it.
Agreed if that is our purpose. This might nab Jose a little Pyrrhic victory but it would be the mere equivalent of a Cheshire tart engaging in some compensatory consumer therapy to block out her ex husband's lottery win and new skank.

I agree with that. It's your comparison with Arsenal that doesn't hold water.

I really hope it's not just a mischievous agent leak. Let's hope its legit! Though I'm sure he'd pick working with Pep over us...

Agree as neither city or Sanchez have to do feck all for 5 months and they get a player for nowt and he gets a massive signing on fee. Win/win

It's a broad comparison. Obviously United are bigger and doing better than Arsenal. But like everyone else we are for the meantime lagging behind Pep City.

We'll end up bidding more than City, he'll still go there, and then the papers can go with the narrative that even when we offered more money he still wanted magical and perfect Man City.
yes, like Pogba went to Madrid, and Lukaku to Chelsea.
