As good as it gets spurs and poch are... dare i say 5 losses away from having a blast of a season to a disappointing one.

If they lost the knockout round (not impossible) and 3 epl matches they'd finish 4-5th position with nothing to show...

Just like it could easily happens with us and Liverpool and chelsea.

Point is many things can happen which can change the outcome of the season. We were buoyant for half a year and now looking like we're about to get relegated in terms of negativity.

Things changes fast in football

Pretty sure all these "but he hasn't won anything so he isn't a great manager!" posts will end up looking really silly in a few years' time.
He does need a trophy to push him into that bracket in my opinion. He's got no excuses with this Tottenham team he has built. They're more than capable of winning a trophy.

His opinions that a 'real' trophy is the PL and CL is not the mindset you want from the man in charge of a team who have not won a lot in recent years. Of course it's great to have ambition, but trying to run before you can walk is never a good thing.

How so? So in few years, team would be rewarded with trophies forlaying youngster, having English core, playing certain style?

If Poch stepped up and win trophy, then doesn't it prove the point of trophy is the mark of success? That's not counting scenario where Poch win trophy else where with team with more resource.

Well put @theyneverlearn

Another game, another one of Kane/Alli dives to win a pen. If they weren't English they'd be getting slaughtered.

Well, it depends. How many "few" years are we talking here?

Poch, has always been found wanting. I am not sure they will win anything this year, very doubtful next year cause I can see him in R Madird or even PSG. They will sell up next year with Poch gone, they will cash in, with Kane and Ericsen. The stadium will cost some serious money, and they dont have that kind of money in the bank.

What trophy is that? As an Arsenal supporter I can say qualifying for the CL is more important than winning the occasional league or FA Cup. Especially when you are not an establish CL qualifier with money to burn.

Spurs like Arsenal will struggle to build their stadium and remain competitive. A lot of Money comes from playing in the CL not winning Coca Cola cups and when you’re not the richest club on the block you need that money.

For this reason I don’t expect spurs to last. Debt on top of their limited budget will catch up with them eventually.

I dont see why he should be winning with Tottenham ?
Teams like At. Madrid, Monaco, Dortmund and Leicester have beaten the odds and won their respective leagues, so why not Spurs? They've been the 5th or 6th best team in the league before pushing the top 4. They spend a fair share of money so yeah, he should be winning. An FA Cup or the EFL. They had a chance in the EL last season and flopped.

I don't think it's surprising anymore that his players dive a lot. I mean, as good as Poch is, the guy himself went on and said cheating is part of the game and players were praised earlier on tricking the ref. He just admitted that diving is part of his tactics to score goals so what's the surprise ? Refs are the dumb ones. They should be x10 more cautious in giving them decisions from now on after such a quote from their manage.

Things do happen but him not winning isnt only his fault .. Spuds aren't really known for being in the trophies year in year out ..

While he's built a good, young team they are a bunch of filthy, cheating feckers. I've never seen a team balance play-acting with reckless thuggery so well.

If PSG get knocked out by Barca, I see Pochettino going there to replace Emery.

Do you imagine that Levy is going from month to month hoping that enough money comes in to continue with the construction?

The stadium is fully funded to completion, so yes, we do have that kind of money.

To ever be considered for the Utd job he needs trophies on his CV.

If that was Utd drawing at Rochdale earlier the anti Mourinho gang would be baying for blood yet the same mob want Poch....

I don’t get this reasoning. Lots of great managers have been hired by big clubs before they have won anything. It’s about finding the right match for the club. I have no idea if Pochettino would be a good match for us, but him not having won any trophies shouldn’t disqualify him.

Poch's team can't even afford to pay 150k a week salary for a top CB in league. He deserves better resouces and he should be the real chosen one.

Toby is looking for more that £150k a week thatbnit the issue IMO, we pay Hugo £120k a week and that's before the new stadium. He wants a move to an elite club.

This love for poch is ridiculous. If god forbid he managed united one day and fail miserably i wonder what his fans excuse would be.
Do u realise the resources we have compared to the other top 4, posters like you live in a United bubble and don't seem to see this lol.

You're oversimplifying things. Many times in the past young exciting managers are hyped up with exactly that line "look at what he done, imagine what he can do with X resources" (replace x with bigger club)

It doesnt always works that way. Ranieri won it with leicester, does it mean he'll win a sextupple with barcelona? Any united fans should know after moyes, that not every manager can handle big budgets. Rafa benitez at liverpool with his dross purchase. Louis van gaal, the more you give him money the more he fecks it up.

I'm not saying poch isn't a great manager. But it isnt set in stone and many things can happen. There's posters in this very forum that harps about jose mourinho being a specialist in failure, outdated, and many other nasty things. This is Jose Mourinho that won in several different league, one of the most decorated active managers who just won 2 Cups with us last season, 3 months of bad form and he's finished. That's how fast things changes in football.

Look back 8 years ago and the name people want to replac fergie will astound you. There's name like quieroz, martin oneill, david moyes, klopp, etcm all young and rising manager working on smaller budget. Look at where they ended up now.

To be fair to Klopp, he was offered 'Disney' United job which he refused. Had he accepted it, you guys would have been playing great football for sure.

No idea why you mention Klopp cause he's a highly decorated manager but oh well. Football moves on and either you keep up or get left behind hence all those managers fell off. That is why despite Jose's ridiculously impressive CV it's possible that his time has come and gone.

So we should only be hiring yesterday's champs instead of looking to the future? Spurs had almost gotten Van Gaal who was a decorated coach with a strong legacy, instead he came to us and Tottenham opted for Pochettino. Who would you say made the better decision? Pochettino has done very well at Spurs with the means at hand, and the fact we're talking about Spurs not winning trophies as a negative says a lot about how far they have come under his management. Football evolves and whoever follows Mourinho shouldn't be another coach who has seen the game pass him by.

I've supported and argued for Poch on this thread but one can't help wonder how he and Spurs would have done if not for Kane. Undoubtedly such an argument is a tad unfair on Poch given he was an instrumental part of Kane's progression to the first team and eventually becoming the word class player he's today. But I see Spurs as a very functional team. Very well drilled and aware of each others role but also very reliant on how good and clinical Kane is up top.

There's also the argument that once you move to a bigger team you're also exposing yourself to a greater level of scrutiny and expectations. No disrespect to Spurs of course but competing for the title and finishing top 4 for Spurs is a good season. Even finishing outside the top 4 is not a complete disaster.

We won a cup with LVG, what did they win with Pochettino ? LVG was by no means a good signing for us but let's stop bashing the club please.

He has some of the best talents in the league at his disposal and he managed to lose a premier league against Leicester. not saying that LCFC weren't deserving champions but with the team he had, he should have done better. the argument that he hasn't won a trophy stands. he gets a lot of passes here it's crazy.

Do we want to play better football or do we want winning trophies ?

People talking about us winning an easy europa league last year ? well guess what, he was in the same competition and he managed to get beaten by Gent ! what does that say about him.

They may play better football but if you don't cash in on the football you play, you're no better than a Bielsa. Arsenal play one of the best football of the country, they're a joy to watch, but look at how wenger is treated.

The solution is not to go for the flavour of the month or the year.

Aye he won a cup, but he left us in almost as bad a state as he found us. Pochettino has helped to build Spurs into one of the best teams in the country and in that time we've had 2 coaches who despite spending more managed to finish behind him. I guess it is easy to speak now it was all said and done but there is no doubt which appointment was smarter out of LVG and Poch.

Yeah, a talented squad that he has built and developed. He didn't inherit a strong squad like Guardiola did, and he didn't have the money of some of his rivals to buy top players. Bottling it against Leicester is obviously not a credit to him but again, the fact Spurs in a situation when they're in the title conversation speaks volumes of their growth under him.

Do we want to play better football or do we want winning trophies ?
The two are not mutually exclusive, in fact the two often go hand in hand. We aren't winning anything this season so what's the excuse for the dogshit football?

People talking about us winning an easy europa league last year ? well guess what, he was in the same competition and he managed to get beaten by Gent ! what does that say about him.
I completely agree, they should have gotten past the likes of Gent. That said, we shouldn't act like winning the Europa league was some great feat, it was just necessary since we couldn't get top 4. Furthermore, looking at how they've performed against sides like Real Madrid, Juventus, and Dortmund in the Champions league is something I think has a bit more weight than crashing out of the Europa League.

I get where you're coming from. He hasn't delivered silverware and for many that's a requirement for managing us. He isn't the perfect manager, and not even the guy I particularly want to follow Mourinho (yet). But the job he has done at Tottenham is great and the fact he hasn't delivered silverware shouldn't be used as a stick to beat him with considering their outlay compared to their rivals, and where they were before he arrived

As much as flavour of the month appointments aren't the solution, handing the reigns to washed up coaches living off their past reputation isn't the solution either.

I understand where you're coming from, in each one of the points you made above. i do agree that he did a good job at Tottenham, not great because, wether he inherited a strong squad or not isn't the point here, the fact is that he has a great squad, one of the best players in the country and he was nowhere near challenging with it. and before you point out to the LCFC season, that's not a challenge, even a shitty Arsenal finished above them. Guardiola in his barça days inherited good players from the academy, he made it count, he won with them. granted it's not the same type of opposition but you get what i'm trying to say.

If your point is, let's find someone better than Jose, i completely agree with you, i'm happy with the progress he made, but not the type of football we play, but who is better and available and that you would trust with a big re building job like ours ? i would love to have Pochettino after Jose decides to go, after all, he is one of the best coaches available. but we shouldn't rush the decision and sack Jose. let him have his time, we are improving.

Can it be better ? of course it can, look just at the other side of Manchester. will it be better ? i'm sure it will, when he'll have his squad, Pep does have his squad. spent more, had a better base, so it's normal that he's arrived there quickly.....

We can't label Jose as a washed up coach yet, as his last premier league win was just 3 years ago, his last trophy was just last year. if he is a washed up coach, then everyone in the premier league is at this moment. and before you point out to the type of football he plays to justify the Washed up label, well he always played like that, it's not new.

It's games like today against Rochdale , the first leg and the struggle against Palace that get conveniently ignored when his managerial credentials get brought up. Far too often he relies on the brilliance of Kane to dig him out.

Rochdale are camped in Spurs half, Rochdale! I wonder what the meltdown would look like if this was us?
