Jesus christ if FIFA updates his pace and acceleration to match what we saw last night he would be absolutely broken on that game.
In all seriousness, aside from his footballing abilities, he's got a beastly mentality which is exactly what we need at United. We're lucky.

If you'd combine pace and strength, is there anyone in world football who beats him in that category? I struggle to think of anyone.

I’ve been critical of many of his performances (and Lukaku himself), but I really hope he starts proving me wrong. He was great yesterday, not impeccable but still won us the game and showed what his strengths are. Impressed by him stepping up on the big occasion, give us more of that, Rom. Fantastic game.

Been thinking about this since yesterday. None right now. Generally no one has pace like him with that physique.

He's been playing really well for the past few months actually. His goal tally needs to be higher in the league, he's only got 12 so far. Needs to be up in the 20's with the likes of Aguero, Salah, Kane. 10 games left in the league, I'm sure he'll get there.

13 goals and 6 assists. If he can get 20 goals and 10 assists that would be superb season.

His dribbling in FIFA isn't good though so he won't be broken. :D

He gets typecast as this oafish brute with no technique or brains by the same people who complain when he doesn't excel at being the target man if we lump it forward. He's much better with someone to help keep the CBs busy and we need to give him more service besides crosses to the backpost. Let him run the channels sometimes, use his strength against fullbacks. We've seenhim put in good crosses and passes from wide, no need to restrict the guy
Completely agree with that. We need to use him to his strengths, and he can do damage to any defense.

We need a gif of that run at the end. Where did he get that energy from? That was crazy. Mourinho was celebrating it like a goal. He is on another level to Morata who drops down like a pussy everytime he's touched. He wouldn't have scored Lukaku's goal today because he would've stayed down after the small contact with the defender that Lukaku had.
He did score one right at the end though.

The difference maker. And the kind of performance that, if done more often, will elevate him to the top tier of number 9s in the world.

Fingers crossed.

He played well but you have to laugh at his goal. His first touch in that move somehow almost ended up going over his own head

What a player he could be if he can improve that area of his game.

I think it was something like..

very complimentary about performance yesterday - but we need to see it more often, he hasn't been terrible but..

picked up how he was showing for McTom & McTom was finding him a couple of times - exactly the service that hasn't been happening but that a Centre forward needs to have - there can be a fault on both sides of the deal on that though

RL blended skills & power very well, if he could do more like the late run what a lift it is for the team & so on
He went up and down during the game. I'm not sure why but there were times when he was stood completely still not even half interested in making a run, and sometimes he was off into the channels where he should be. For him to really reach his potential with us I think he might need to lose a bit of his size so he can run at maximum effort for the full 90 mins.

Great performance from him yesterday. 22 goals and 7 assists is a more than decent return so far considering how isolated he's been in many of our games this season, particularly against strong opposition. Hope he kicks on and adds about 10-15 more between now and May. (Assuming we're getting to the CL final :wenger:)

The Lukaku haters just won't buzz off.
To be fair he has to do it consistently for a whole season to be regarded a good signing given his price tag.

He was excellent yesterday, 10/10. However, he can't just do that 50% of the time.

50% of the time would be great in fairness.

Again it goes back to the price tag. I'd expect goal returns of Kane, Lewandowski, Aguero & Cavani given what we paid for him.

They have a much better goal to game ratio than 50%.

Indeed but as the main man of United, we should be expecting more. Higuain and Suarez could also be added to that list.

EDIT: Also it's just not about goals. He needs to be brilliant regardless of scoring. A proper no.9 can be motm without scoring. Not going missing and/or scoring against cannon fodder.

Can he improve? Yes, he definitely can but he has made improvements as a player since joining, but some refuse to acknowledge this. I completely agree that he has deserved criticism at times but there's criticism and there's blatant agendas. The latter is what I take umbrage with. He could potentially finish the season with 30+ goals and maybe 10 assists. That's a pretty fantastic first season in a team that have a seriously disjointed attack. But again, I agree that he does need to improve further and he's far from the complete player but the anti-Lukaku agendas are tiresome.

Three areas to improve.linkup play ,ball control and create chances on his own.
His ball control is still appaling to me.
Linkup play he and his coach has to work more on it.
As far as creating chances..a lot of pundits say he isnot that type but rather a player who strive on chances so he needs other players fot that.

Aye, yesterday's performance was one we've missed for years now - one of our big names stepping up against the top 6 and contributing match winning performances/goals for us.

24 years of age, he's got like 5-6 years to reach his potential!

He's not finished article yet but already can have games like that if we play him into his strengths.

First we should get some better crossers into the team, fullback with a good whip would do a lot of good for him.
Second get more Lingard on the pitch, he's just making great runs and link up with anyone in the team, he's everywhere so Rom is there up not alone. Players like Sanchez and Pogba simply has to start for their ability to play a through ball, Lukaku will explode.

Using the price of Lukaku against him is unreasonable. Kane and Aguero would go for double the price of Lukaku. Lukaku's price tag gets you a solid striker; if you want one of the best strikers in the world you'll have to cough up £100m+

But you don't get Kane for 75 Million, some team will pay around 200 Million for him. Lukaku will cost half or one third of Kane's price. So going by price tag logic, he should be scoring half of what Kane scores.

On a serious note, Lukaku has 13 goals and 6 assists in league, Kane has 25 goals and 1 assist. I think only Salah has contributed lot of goals and assists than Lukaku, others are within 5-7 goals range and most are regular penalty takers.

I don't think it is anymore. The level has risen drastically. 1 in 2 would mean that scoring 19 goals in 38 games is a great return, realistically 19 goals won't win you the golden boot anymore.

Ignoring Ronaldo/Messi, Here are the league game/goals records of the best strikers around right now.

Suarez - 22 games, 20 goals
Kane - 27 games, 24 goals
Lewandowski - 23 games, 22 goals
Aguero - 22 games, 21 goals.

This is the return of goals expected of a striker in a big team in europe these days.

There's a lot more than four big teams in Europe, so singling out the four most prolific strikers in Europe as an example of "expected" returns makes no sense.

To be fair, that's not true at all. He directly contributed to us winning an awful lot of games in EPL, either by scoring or assisting. He needs to be proper no. 9 without scoring? When it comes to strikers and assist, he and Firminho are joint top in the league with 6.

Same story in CL groups and FA Cup.

Even if your 50% of time measure is correct and it's not that would put most of his teammates at 20-30% of time doing it.

People need to get off his back and not just because of the stats. The man has a great attitude to go along with the stats.

Mate, it was all planned. Flick it up, headbutt Christensen just enough to floor him but not concede a foul, cheeky lay off to Alexis, Martial crazy legs, one touch, boom.

He's such a handful. He must be horrible to play against as there aren't many strikers that can battle with their back to goal, in the air, down the channels and in behind. Even when he has a bad game, I get the impression that the defenders know they have had a game.

I'd love to see him do more of what we saw in the last minute where he just charges at them with sheer pace and power, so hard to stop. I think this could be very useful on the counter attack in the CL if we get to the latter stages.

I guess i misinterpreted the posters meaning of "great" record. Shouldn't a great record mean it's the best of the best?

don't know what era you are living in but your as 'great' as your competition. This is no knock on Rom, that there are multiple attackers across many different leagues average almost a goal per game. that would put it as a 'good' record not great.

You have to put that in context, how good the team is or whether they play attacking or cautious game. Players don't score so many goals in all set ups. For example, Klopp's set up is attackers dream, so is Pep's.

La Liga:
Messi and Suarez scored more than 20 goals. Next best is Aspas with 16

Bundesliga:
Only Lewandowski scored 20 goals, next best is 12 and next is all 1 in 2 ratio.

Serie A:
Only Immobile scored more than 20 goals. Icardi 18 in 22.

Premier League:
Kane, Salah, Aguero scored more than 20 league goals. Sterling 15 and others have 1 in 2 ratio or close to that.

2016-17:
PL

Kane - 29 goals in 30 games.
Lukaku 25 in 36
Sanchez - 24 in 36
Rest all are close to 1 in 2 rati0 or close to that.

La Liga:
Messi, Ronaldo, suarez scored lot, rest all are 1 in 2 ratio

Bundesliga:
Auba, Lewandowski, Modeste, Werner all scored more than 20 goals, rest all are 1 in 2 ratio

Serie A:
6 players scored moe than 20 league goals, rest all 1 in 2 ratio.

Only players who play for teams like Bayern, Madrid, Barca average goal per game, they score lot of goals as a team.

Kane is exception though.

Very interesting ;) great well backed up post cheers @RedStarUnited might just have altered my opinion. I’m away to look at others strikers than 4 top ones mentioned.

Lukaku should have a hell of a lot more goals for us than the 22 he does but his record between the Liverpool game in October and Derby in the FA Cup in January reads 4 goals in 21 appearances (or something close to that). He cant have a run like that again next season

He wasn't even terrible during that part really. He was bad in some games but most of the time he was contributing to our play. Just didn't get lots of chances to shoot. We've done better since 2018 in creating chances for him.
