Jose Mourinho targets new Manchester United midfielder to replace Michael Carrick

http://www.skysports.com/amp/footba...-united-midfielder-to-replace-michael-carrick

Jose Mourinho wants a new Manchester United midfielder this summer

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...-new-midfielder-this-summer-a3769106.html?amp

"If, next summer, we are going to sign a midfield player, it's to replace Michael Carrick and Michael is a phenomenal player that, this season, he couldn't give us anything at all.

"He's in the end of his career so if, next summer, we buy a midfield player, it's not to improve our squad - it's to replace Michael Carrick. So, to improve our squad in the midfield, we would need to buy two."

http://www.goal.com/en-in/news/mour...s-as-he-targets-two/n501fzabb9wx15j38zbx83c53

The one thing I can say for sure about our transfer targets for the summer is that we would be buying a midfielder. And most of the players we have been linked with are midfielders - Seri, Sergej, Jorginho, Kovacic,Doucoure ,Vidal to name a few.

About our midfield options -
Matic and Pogba : first team quality
McTominay : young learning but doesn't offer enough on the ball other than from a defensive POV
Fellaini - leaving most probably or hopefully
Herrera - has not played for a long time, looks like Mou has lost faith in him or something
Pereira - don't think Mou trusts him or that he wants to come back, even if he does come back, is he good enough to be a regular starter

I hope we dont go into the next season with a 30 year old Matic and an inconsistent and some what injury prone Pogba as our two top midfield options.
I would be happy if we bought even two CMs, a #6 and a #8 as I don't feel McTominay and Pereira are good enough to be starting in a club with CL aspirations, atleast they are not good enough now
Sure if Carrick and Fellaini go that would make a lot of sense. That doesn't however mean we are buying the likes of Kroos to replace them. Jose could have ordinary players who happen to fit his profile lined up as replacements. The problem as I see it hasn't been Matic - he's been fine. The problem has been Pogba's inability to gain any sort of consistency because he has at times struggled to acclimate to the specific role that is being asked of him. Once that is resolved, the entire midfield will be resolved.

I do feel we need another source of creativity and someone to distribute the ball so that if Pogba has a bad day or if he is out, we won't look completely clueless.
Whether that is a DLP like Jorginho / Weigl or a playmaking #8 like Verratti or Kroos or Alcantara or Kovacic or Seri , would depend on what direction Mourinho wants to take - stick with 4-2-3-1 or move to 4-3-3 / 3-5-2 / 4-4-2

I don't really know why we are being linked with a DLP, where does that leave Matic?
A Double pivot of Matic - DLP can work but that would mean Pogba playing as a #10, which he isn't very good at.

I would rather we buy a young CDM or mould McTominay into one and then go all out and buy a playmaking #8
Someone like Alcantara or Kovacic can complete our midfield, buying Jorginho or SMS would mean more square pegs in round holes

Matic is CDM, not DLP, McTominay still don't have a fixed position yet he looks like he could be CDM. Kind of midfielders we are looking for like Vidal, Verrati or Thiago to complete our midfield of 3, Herrera is not enough good this season.

I was talking about a Matic - DLP double pivot not Matic as a DLP

We could use a technomidget, who has press-resistance and can keep the ball circulating at speed. Someone like Kovacic, Seri or Thiago.

I also think Lewis Cook could be an option here.

Wouldn't even want Em Bap, regardless of talent, I were to pick 3 it would be Verratti, Marquinho, Rabiot. Meuneir is quality but I think we could get better.

I'd take Mbappe and Meunier over the others, they'd finally sort out our right side and Meunier has a good connection with Lukaku on the pitch.

50 million?
His contract runs until 2023. Same reason Coutinho and Van Dijk went for more than they're worth.

Not sure which club would want to sign Bellerin though. Barcelona and City were the two clubs linked last summer but they've both brought in better right backs.

Think it's Juve that he is linked to.

Juve will offer Arsenal 15m after a 2 year loan spell... if they are feeling generous.

Bellerin is not that good either.. So even the 15m might be too high.

The rumors of "the commercial brand will help us" are as weak as the real estate rumors.
I do not think Madrid will change Adidas for Nike.

What's your thought about this saga or among madrid's fans generally? Do we can see Neymar with Madrid in summer? Sure, Neymar maybe wants to play in Madrid but how it can transfer into reality is the question right? Did all this media groundworks come form insider? From buying out his mega contract at PSG to Nike takeover Adidas was quite a story i think.

Neymar to Real sounds like a way to for journalists to get clicks more than anything else.

What a stupid story. You know a story is a non runner when sponsors buying players crops up.
I mean, would Madrid even turn down the 100m a year (inflated number but thats a different story) on its own without Neymar?

I’m not sure I understand you. Is it not the case that Nike are only offering €100 a year if Madrid sign Neymar?

Edit: I’ve now read the article and presumably you mean the offer apparently being made by Adidas?

Florentino was the first to say that Neymar should play at Madrid to win a ballon d´or , he said it bluntly on the day they gave Cristiano the trophy, so the club's intentions are clear.
Neymar's relations with the players of Madrid are very good, and all of them without exception have spoken well of Neymar, inviting him to sign.
A few months ago a Brazilian journalist named Ulises Costa said that Neymar would play in Madrid. I do not know if he is very reliable but apparently he was among the first to talk about Neymar-PSG.

It could be thought that there was interest in disturbing PSG during the tie, but the rumors are still there. Then the French press also threw fuel on the fire talking about his discontent, how disappointed he was with the whistles. The issue is to what extent are enough reasons to demand a transfer and get it.
Then there is the other version, about a clause by which he could leave, although apparently that clause would be activated in 2019.
Apart from that, the Spanish press says that Neymar Pai speaks frequently with Florentino, that they have found a house, that his mother wants to live in Madrid, etc.

Personally I think there is no clause, although it would be a pleasant surprise.
We would have to pay 300/400 million, Neymar would have to cry a lot publicly. Verratti may be scared, but I do not think they can act the same way with Neymar. Another issue is the salary, image rights and coexistence with Cristiano on the same team.
There is a lot of division among the fans, for some he is a bad professional, a mercenary who might return to Barcelona tomorrow, but also people are aware that Madrid have to sign the best players and a trident Cristiano-Neymar-Asensio could be awesome.
My bet is that he is going to sign this summer.

If Nike do offer, say, 80m per year I don't think Madrid would turn it down because they didn't sign Neymar. Why would they go with a lower deal with Adidas?
It makes no sense. Why would they need a sweetener for a 2nd /3rd world record kit deal?
Nike could offer 80m without Neymar and be up money..

Edit for number confusion.

I suppose it depends on PSG’s position. Presumably he’ll only go if they are willing to let him.

I’m not convinced, myself, but I wonder if Mbappe’s loan somehow fits what’s going on behind the scenes.

Doubt it though.

I think it's ludicrous to assume that, baring a worsening of Qatar's position between now and then, PSG will sell Neymar for any price in the summer regardless of what he wants.

@carvajal I really doubt Neymar can co-exist with Cristiano given they are occupying the same position and those primadona thing. If no buyout clause in place, 300 or 400 is a minimal i think to Neymar and that huge money and Madrid still need to buy keeper and another striker. BBC time is over i guess? But that would be huge if Neymar really go to Madrid. I dont know how Barca fans will take it.

Mbappe still not the same league with Neymar now. He's some talent but if Neymar go, i doubt Mbappe alone would be enough for PSG.
Funny thing is, if this Neymar to Madrid comes true, the only loser is PSG for me. They can have all the money but they get played around by Neymar and media.
