Yeah, it was revisited yesterday actually. Here we go.

The first five trophies, all of which Real won, aren't considered as actual European Cup wins by many.
The format was somewhat iffy, it was an invitational tournament ran by a french magazine rather than an official one and the draws were fixed rather than at random as we see now and did at the time for the World Cup.
Think the original argument was a fair bit more extensive than this but I've never been able to re-find it, :(.

You think the pet club of fascist dictatorship should be considered the greatest club side of all time? Even if they were great at football, they were the pet club of fascist dictatorship. I'm not in any way trying to inject politics into anything, I think we should all be able to unequivocally agree that fascist dictatorship is bad. As a Liverpool supporter, I clearly don't wish United well, but I would never want to see them relegated. Just an eternity of 10th place and a 0% record against us. I value the passion and excitement of the derby too much to see United go away. Alternatively, I would like to see Real Madrid relegated, placed into administration and they cease to exist. They are an awful club with an awful history.

Man, the recent newbie system is an absolute mistake. I guess it brings more money to the owners but the quality of the forum is in shambles

Liverpool have been really close to making a mess both against City and Roma and ref decisions made huge difference in critical moments. If they lose against Chelsea morale will be very low, making finishing 5th a real possibility and if they do the build up to the final will be hilarious.

"Not only Real Madrid, their arch and fierce rivals Liverpool also offered them five first team footballers. Legendary Liverpool boss Bill Shankly offered to pay their wages as he was deeply saddened by the tragedy and wanted to be a part of United’s rebuilding process.

“it also opened a lot of peoples eyes to how the fans hatred has destroyed what everyone believed were unbreakable bonds between United and Liverpool – sure there was intense rivalry but no hatred – Liverpool had a place in United hearts because as soon as it was announced we would carry on after Munich, (many thought we would fold) Liverpool were straight in and offered United the pick of their reserve team and any other help we might need – Forest were the only other club to offer help.”

Aww, how nice from Forest.

Interesting match up this, both teams have weaknesses and strengths that the other will have to be wary off. The only way that Pool can win this is if they stick to their principles and not let fear get in the way of their playing style. They did that yesterday and if they pitch like that vs Madrid, they'll get spanked. Madrid imo have to put out their most technical side out there, Kova instead of Casemiro for example, players like that get exposed vs a team like Pool. Isco has to start the match too, if they go with the attack of the Bayern second leg it'll end in tears.

One thing Madrid has that for example City don't have is that they don't live a press or bust life. When they press and can't recover the ball and don't, they do funnel back before it becomes an unmitigated crisis city style. Madrid are also great on the counter from deep, better than Pool in that sense. They should be able to stop Pool from building their play given Pool are a team that plays without playmakers and none of the midfielders are all that comfortable on that ball. Going to be a very interesting match up, far more interesting that what we've been served up in the past few years in the finals.

We will convert some to Madridismo along the way, @Cal? is almost done, although he still thinks it is because of Cristiano :D
I’ll be back to wanting you lot to lose, except against Barca as soon as he retires ;)

What are poll results? Didn't vote, don't want to click on real, afraid to click on liverpool:wenger:
Joking aside, liverpool is a really huge underdog here. They can't play their (only) style and press real because you can't press midfield modric, kroos, kovacic, isco. Real also have quick back line so it is not easy to counter them. On the other side arnold against isco and marcelo. Ronaldo against lovren. And finally; modric, kroos, kovacic against henderson, wynaldum and milner. It will be our midfield against barca 2011 all over again.

I’m more than confident that Ronaldo will stop the apocalypse.

Hat trick in the final so Scousers, Catalans and Messi brigade all meltdown. :D

I've never read so much bullsh... in this forum, its amazing what kind of shite people can write.

First of all, we are talking about the best team ever, and by achievements that Madrid team is the one, I don't care if you think they shouldn't be regarded as that because they had the best players thanks to Franco, Quatar oil money, Chinese millionaires or whatever... they were amazing and the most successful side ever in the most important tournament of the world.

But then lets talk about all the bullshite you talked about, you hate as much as someone Madrid because of their history? A history that you don't even know!!

You talk about the team of the fascist dictatorship, a team thas was winning everything in Spain before Franco, then when Franco took the power and the dictatorship was in its strongest moment, Madrid failed to win a single trophy in 15 years! 15!!!

You know who were the teams that won the most on that times? Barcelona with 5 and Atletico with 4...

Kubala (Best Barcelona player in history after Messi) got to Barca thanks to Franco, trying to use him as anticommunist propaganda by the regime, some years before Di Stefano got to Madrid. Di Stefano was the one that made Madrid start winning everything.

But Di Stefano wasn't put in Madrid by Franco. Madrid bought it to Millonarios, that was said to be the owner of the federative rights of Di Stefano, while Barca said it was River Plate, the team he was playing in that moment. The Spanish Federation decided to give both teams a fair resolution and decided that Stefano would play 2 years in Madrid and 2 years in Barca.

The first months of Di Stefano at Madrid weren't as good as everybody thought and Barca in October 23 of 1953 announced that they were no more interested in Di Stefano, and renounced the rights for the player.

Barca was saved 3 times from bankrupcy by Franco, in 1961, 1963 and 1965, the last one Franco helped them to pay a debt of 230 million pesetas they owed from building the Camp Nou.

He also helped them to build the Palau Blaugrana and Palacio de Hielo, the team gave him two gold medals because of his help and named him Honorary President of both buildings.

Madrid team of the fascist regime? The biggest and shitiest myth in world football, and you can easily investigate and see all I wrote is true

We could say that Liverpool is a team of hooligans and murderers, thanks to Heysel (in fact thanks to your hooligans, a lot of Juventus Fans died that day) and Hillsbourough... but we can't say that the Liverpool team are murderers and hate them because of that, because it would be ignorant and stup...

So please, the next time you are going to comment something, try to connect your brain to your fingers before starting, so you don't look ridiculous and ignorant.

Liverpool is chasing the second option. We need some psychologist to explain the difference and preference for people to vote 1 instead of 2.
Changed my vote to 2nd so that Liverpool doesn't catch up! Don't send no shrinks up here.

You really hate Madrid so much? Not that it is something unusual just wondering.
I am not proud on that but i despise them. Barca too. I explained earlier. Their behavior during games is something that i just can't accept.

Fair enough. I even like Barca more (kill me but I loved Ronaldinho and Cruyff), just can't stand Liverpool winning it.

I loved watching barca with ronaldo( my fav player), later with ronaldinho and rivaldo. Don't get me wrong here. I love to watch how barca and real are playing. Especially real. They are the most complete team that i have ever seen. They can play on possession, counter, short, direct... really great team. But their antics are too much for me now. To quote danny glover; "I am too old for that shit"

Well i obviously wanted Pep to win it but i wonder who to support in this final? I really like Klopp's rock'n'roll football style although a bit reckless BUT Zidane has grown massively as an very interesting manager to me as of late.. 3 times in a row would be a monumental achievement..
Can you stop calling it rock and roll football. It’s heavy metal. Thanks

Jesus. So, now Jose gets stick for other teams results which he can't control. We lost against Sevilla, get over it. It happens.
he doesnt get a stick for other results, where am I saying anything about it, you jeeez... he's compared to other managers fixture. Sevilla was absolutely comfortably beatable vs. As Roma which is a team of similar or higher quality.. he absolutely deserves stick for bottling it. Now we have to watch Liverpool x Real Madrid, two absolutely despisable clubs..

I don't care if I get a Madrid lover banner but I want Madrid to win. If I had to choose between Utd winning the FA cup or Madrid winning the champions league I would choose the latter.

I’d offer de gea to Madrid for free and drive him there myself if Real stop Liverpool from winning the Champions League. I don’t think half of you realise how bad of a scenario it would be if the scum win it. They are vile in every sense and if it does happen I’m going underground for a very long time. It’s time to hide your kids and wife get ready. There’s a string possibility life won’t be worth living!

We've had two away legs after comprehensive home victories. Why would we take our 110mph game to grounds where we are already protecting 3 goal leads? The mindset changes, deliberately or otherwise. What you do need to know is in Europe when we are starting games at 0-0 we play differently, home or away.
It's not just the CL, all season long there's been a noticeable difference in your intensity and energy levels between home and away games. You won a lot of away games entirely through the sheer quality of your front 3 and inept opposition, but even the likes of stoke have been able to play against you. At anfield teams can't do anything more than trying to hang on as best they can. Spurs were the only team to take the game to you there, and they're the one team on the world with the physicality and energy not to get blown away. And even then they only started to play after you slowed down. You're a great side when you can play at hyperspeed. You're a decent side from the midfield down carried by three world class forwards when you don't. And away, you've rarely been able to play at hyperspeed except in very short spurts

We are entirely unable to keep up with teams able to push a ultra fast tempo, but when we're able to play at our pace we're nigh-invincible

Unfortunately I think there will be quite a lot of rival fans who won’t mind too much if there is some trouble, so they can use it as a stick to beat all Liverpool fans with.

X ratio = X wins for every loss.

If your win/loss ratio is 4 it means that for every loss you've won 4 times, if the ratio is 1 (like Bayern) it means that for every loss they've won once, ratios under 1 (Benfica/Juve) mean more losses than wins in finals.

It shows that in CL/EC finals the current finalists have got the best results, historically speaking, with Real having almost double the ratio of Pool (twice wins for each loss in finals, compared to Pool).
Again, isn’t easier to just say Liverpool has won 80%(83 to be exact) of the finals they have played in. Madrid the same.

Liverpool allowed a few goals in the semis and hopefully they do the same for the finals. It shouldn't be too hard for the world's best to tap a few in. He better because I really can't deal with Liverpool winning

This will be like a Supercup, CL quality team vs. EL quality team. While Real Madrid had a proper route to the final beating Europe's finest (PSG, Juve, Bayern), Liverpool had more of an EL route to the final (Porto, City, Roma). I think and hope that in the final the gulf of quality will show, and RM will win it without breaking a sweat.

I am nearly 40 and that is the main reason why i despise real and barca. In my age i don't like to see their childish behaviour on the pitch. I grow up watching players who were man not spoiled kids with all that theatrical behavior.
But you like watching the premiership ? With Young , Zaha , Deli Ali etc etc all likely to be called up to the Olympic diving team !
