if chelsea are willing to let willian go i say just try and buy willian from them then. Can understand why they would only do swap deal, but feel like willian could be bought for the right price. Then just play sanchez in middle flanked by martial left and willian right all behind lukaku when we go with the 4-2-3-1.

I'm fine with Willian in and Martial out (although I'd rather he stayed, despite being critical about him).
Not fine with those two things being linked.

This is probably going to be the worst summer in terms of transfer rumours. We are going to be linked with every hard working pensioner (28-30 year old). Even though it is likely that this is the profile Mourinho is looking for, it just doesn't get the juices flowing like a Fekir or Dybala rumour would.

Selling a potentially world class player versus a manager who only thinks in the present and looks for experience. Rather keep the player.

Why not just sign Willian for cash monies and keep Martial, if anything...
I think we explored that possibility from what you hear out of the press. Iicr, Mourinho has said he'd like Willian but "it's wasn't possible". If the swap makes it possible, I think he'll go for it.

We need a player like Willian more than we need Martial at the moment. You're all demanding Jose delivers a title challenge next year, well then he's going to need players at the top of their game now, not players who could be great in a few years.

I don’t really care as long as it helps us win the league. I feel that Willian would provide a bigger piece to the puzzle to us than Martial would at Chelsea. Ofc in an ideal world we sign Willian and ship Martial abroad but I won’t lose much sleep if the deal does end up happening. In Mourinho we trust.

Imagine Martial coming with Chelsea and tearing is apart? Mourinho would need to find a new country.
Not just find a new country. Retire. If this happens it will just continue to show how disconnected he is from modern football. And at the end of it the ones who pay for it are the clubs. Because he is generally a short term manager. He may have not rated KDB and Salah, Lukaku but at the end of the day it didn't affect him. He still won the league. But 3/4 years down the line he has moved on to his next challenge and these same players are tearing it apart elsewhere. Chelsea are the losers not Mourinho. We can't be making the same mistakes here with Martial. If he goes it's a loss for the club. So I hope the board don't allow it to happen.

Oh definitely, but we will hunt him down. Can't see this happening though.

A part in my brain is satisfactorily imagining a scenario where Mourinho brings this idea up to Woodward, who just responds by flooring him with a massive right hook and then proceeds to stamp on him for the next 5 minutes.

If only real life was like the WWE.

I like Willian but this doesn't make any sense. Jose may as well swap Rom for Drogba and Pogba for Lamps and have done with it.

That would be stupid.

Willian has 2 years left on his contract, Martial has 1+1 left on his contract. Willian is at the end of his career while Martial is at the beginning.

Unless Chelsea do something ridiculous like Willian plus £50m it's makes very little sense. If we want to get Willian then we can buy him outright, the Chelsea board do not have a problem with selling to rivals and we can get him for around £40m most likely.

I severely doubt Chelsea would sell him for 40m this summer. Even after turning 30. The way he has been playing over past 4-5 months I doubt they'd sell him at all.

Willian is what we need at RW. In exchange for Martial though, I don’t know.

Not as a straight swap. I'd certainly take Willian, but just the age gap alone, there would have to be extra coin coming our way as well. I've always said Martial's stock is low right now. I'd loan him out for a season, let his value rise, he's still young enough. He's out of Utd team, he's out of French team. The very thought of swapping a 22 year old with a 29 year old is nuts.

If we sign Willian in 2 years we'll need to replace both him and Sanchez, not sure that is wise.

Typical Jose, replacing a talented young player with an ageing player for short term gains.

We need a player which is much stable on ball than Willian. His end product is very bad, he brings acceleration on counters, but constantly loses possession...

It's going to be either Martial or Rashford so take your pick. With Sanchez and Lukaku it's going to be almost impossible to give them both enough playing time because neither can play on the right. Ideally I would prefer a swap for someone like Dembele but if Jose wants Willian then go for it. I don't want any excuses next season, get Jose his players and let's bring the PL title back where it belongs.

I'd rather sell Rashford. At least you can witness the quality Martial has. Rashford had a good chance to prove his worth and got to greedy.

That would be a shitty deal for Martial. How is he going to play ahead of Hazard. If he is planning to leave, he should go to a team where he'll be a guaranteed starter in his favoured position.

If there's a serious amount of cash coming our away in addition to Willian, like say, 30 to 40M, i would gladly do the swap, Willian is a known quantity, Martial is just potential for now. Otherwise, like others said, sell abroad, PSG for example as they have the cash to pay for him.

He Has potential, yes, but that's just it for now, potential, like Januzaj had potential, like Rashford has potential now and many other youngsters.

And if we're hearing these stories now, be sure that even if he signs a new contract, in a few years he will leave and i'll prefer to lose him now, that he's just 'Potential', then in a few years when he's the finished product (if he ever will be) at our expense.

Offer him + cash for Dybala or Verrati and see if it works out.

This would be the best case scenario and the one I'd be most open to entertaining.

Fully expect Martial to go this summer though.

No thanks. A winger who scores 5 league goals a year isn't enough. Yeah he runs around a lot but we need more to close the gap on City and stave off the likes of Liverpool/Spurs/Chelsea. Furthermore if Martial were to kick on and become a star at Chelsea we'd be left with some serious egg on our face.

Chelsea board don't work like that, they are very profit orientated and will let player go if he pushes for a move.

They have done this with so many players, that it can't be a coincidence. If you want to leave and you are going for a big contract, then Chelsea will let someone else pay it.

Costa, Matic, Oscar have all left despite being good players when they left. All 3 pushed for a move elsewhere.

We should be aiming for someone better than Willian on the right and Martial should be sold abroad if he wants to leave, he is far too good to give to a domestic rival. It would be another silly deal on our part if it happened.

Hazard is likely to leave Chelsea. Still not signed a new contract.

Fair point. Yeah if we could just buy Willian then that would be the best outcome.

15/16 was Willian's best season (if not someone correct me).

He managed 11 goals and 10 assists. Martial that season, in his first in the PL and his only not one under Mourinho got 18 goals 11 assists.

Would be brainless. I don't think it will happen.
Yeah seems more a case of a journalist putting 2 and 2 together and getting to 5. Mou is a fan of Willian + Martial seems to be unhappy = profit! (Swap).

On topic & something you’d like - I’ve seen Pool linked to Dembele (not that I believe it’ll happen!) but maybe we should try and punt a swap with Barca. We need a RW and they need more a LW and backup for Suárez up top (depending on Griezmann).

Where is Hazard going? I seen Sam Lee saying he will be City's marquee target.
