Not a lot. I think other teams like Liverpool are in a much better position to challenge. I think they're 2-3 players away from mounting a serious title challenge. I think Utd need 5 players. RB, LB, CB, CM, RW. I think Chelsea are also dangerous, they usually respond after a bad season when they get a new manager. I expect City to buy less players but get 1-2 big names.

Next season could be Mourinho's last, if it's goes similarly to the one we have had this year.

I know we are 2nd and the league position is vastly better better but the performances and intensity of our football is a major concern. We are 2nd yet only the goalkeeper is worthy of a place in the team of the season. Can't really make a case for anyone else to be in it. No you can't name that many players thriving under Mourinho apart from Lukaku.

Next season Mourinho needs to figure out his team, his IX and his formation. He has faffed about with the starting XI far too much. Needs to settle on a CB pairing. Invest in new Full-backs. Find a midfielder to play with Pogba and sort out the issues on the wing.

He has not given players like Martial, Shaw, Rashford and Lindolof a consistent run of games to prove themselves. You can't play one game, get dropped for three and be surprised when players don't turn up on their fourth.

We have finished 2nd, Liverpool are about to finish 4th. I would say we are closer to challenging than them. They need a new GK and CB, and they lack depth from the bench. Also if Salah leaves they are fecked. He has carried them at times this season.

Qualifying for the CL is important but I don't think where you finish in the top 4 has a significant bearing on the following season. The top 4 changes every year and we have different PL winners regularly. Yes it's great to finish 2nd but you have to factor in the style of our football, the lack of players thriving and the fact that City are 19 points clear of us in the debate also. I am happy we have jumped from 6th-2nd its a positive but we can also look at other factors.

Liverpool aren't perfect but they look like more of a cohesive team and buy into the managers demands. We are still struggling to find out best XI, best Formation.

You say Salah has carried them but I don't think he would do what he is doing at LFC at Utd. His great season is a consequence of the way Liverpool play just as much as it is his ability. System suits him perfectly. Yes, they need a GK and CB and more depth but unlike us they doing faff about with the team as much as we do. They have more of a settled squad which allows players to find that consistency in performance level.

At the moment, not excited about anything for next season.

We will need a change in attitude from Mourinho as he is too cautious. The players also need to step up as too many have been going through the motions this season.

Will have to see who we can sign before any excitement builds for me.

Liverpool have always looked like this, lot of goals on either end, get so far up their own arse then end the season fighting for top four. Salah has carried this team all the way, a sale or injury would cripple them. We are slowly getting back to a place we believe this club should be and I for one think that we will win the league again before a club that has challenged maybe Three or four times in the last 26 years.
I'm not worried about anything or anyone next season. Mourinho is not an idiot and he knows what's missing. I think it's his pragmatism that has pissed a lot off but he was correct. The lack of goals scored not conceded has been this clubs problem for five years now. He has put out players that make us hard to beat because the match winners in our squad don't score consistently enough. Valencia and Young should be nowhere near our first 11. Although they have been great servants they remain woefully limited and predictable in attack. Mata will get you nine points a season but too slow in transitions to be part of a dynamic attacking unit. Sort that right wing, drop City size money of wing backs, sign a proper back up to Lukaku, give Martial an ultimatum and swap out either Smalling or Jones for Alderweld. I think then we will have enough to challenge or at least give a shit against the league fodder. Nine points dropped against promoted teams is shocking, that's half the points deficit to City right there.

I have learned by now that excitement for new players is just setting yourself up for disappointment. Di Maria, Falcao, Mata, Fellaini, Depay, Bastian, Shaw, Mkhitarian were outstanding for their previous clubs but never recreated that form here. I want solid if not spectacular signings who will come in and fight, something that is sorely lacking at the club. Would love Mahrez though, he would thrive at United.

Nothing now that I have seen his last line up of the season. We are getting rid of blind and Damian, why even put then in the first team. Rest Sanchez for final put in a youngster. Ridiculous.

Martial was on a fantastic run of form, then Sanchez came it is has been downhill for him ever since

Nothing. Maybe a new signing will make it exciting but our end of season play has me a fair bit depressed.

The League Title. ;)
And then the subsequent moaning and meltdown on this forum, that Jose should not be allowed to win the title, as the style of football does not befit a title winning side. And that Pep is the better manager, etc etc etc.

I'm looking forward to my posts being quoted from years ago and people saying "feck he was right afterall"
What, that LVG will win us the title and CL?

I’m not 100% happy with how things are going but this thread is an embarrassment. I wonder how many of you lot are actually Utd fans as you seem hellbent on creating a miserable, toxic atmosphere on the Caf.
I've been saying this all along.
I think that there are some ABUs on here, who masquerade as MUFC fans, just so that they can report back to their LFC and MCFC buddies and have a laugh at the comments on here.
It's good that the mods are tagging users with Scouse Lover and City Lover, as it lets everybody know what these people are actually about.

Everything, the page is turned and it's a new chapter. I'm curious to see how Mourinho will adapt to life with a new staff, how he is going to balance the team, how the players will improve and who we are going to bring.

I've been thinking the same, he's been a phenomenon this season no doubt but I can't see him keeping it up. He'll still be a very good player but I'm not convinced he'll be putting up Messi numbers next season.

I'm quite excited to see what we can do with proper full backs next season, no question of Valencia's and Young's commitment but we could definitely upgrade in that area. Full backs who're able to provide substantial width could provide us with some much needed improvement when attacking.

It'll be also interesting to see, providing the rumours are true regarding Milinkovic-Savic, how our midfield shapes up next season. Savic comes with a very big repuatation and Pogba and Matic both already have a lot of quality. Also, if we sign Fred as Fellaini's replacement I'd like to see if we could be more dynamic with a player like him in the Matic role from time to time.

Also very excited to see how the U23s get on next season, essentially a fresh start after the unfortunate relegation a number of the best U18s will most likely be promoted. Gomes and Chong should take that league by storm next year. U18s I expect will have another strong season, I'd like to see how good Puigmal and Traore can be together, I've got very high hopes for both.

I'm also keen to see what'll happen with Tuanzebe, Fosu-Mensah, Mitchell and Pereira. They're all at an age now where they should be around the first team picture and they've all had a chance to go out on loan now, wonder if any could be part of the squad regularly next season.

I'm interested to see how our newer players-Lindelof, Lukaku, Sanchez in particular-can improve having settled a bit more at the club. I though Lukaku started really well, then had an awful, awful slump over the winter but his all round game has improved massively since then (I thought the draw away to Leicester were the first signs of that development). Lindelof and Sanchez really struggled upon arrival but there have been signs of life since.

Pogba hopefully another year wiser and some better decision making. Hopefully.

Ordinarily I would be excited about the development of Martial, Rashford, and Shaw, but I'm really not, especially since Rashford might be the only one to stay, though it will be interesting to see how McTominay's second season will go.

A new winger would be fun, so we'll see, and I'd like to see some of the young lads mentioned by others in this thread get game time. But I don't know if that excitement would be ground down by our style of play.

Also, a decent Champions League run. QF at least and some games against a big side or two. Since our last final appearance in 2011, we have won one CL knockout game, let alone tie, 3-0 at home to Olympiakos in 2014.

I'll look forward to anything once we sort out the FB situation for a start. :)

I'm hoping this place will be more pleasant to hang around but I doubt it tbh. I actually think it will get worse.

Best not to get too excited this time. We get excited after every summer transfer window and always end up disappointed as the season progresses. Not going to make that mistake this time. I'll give it a couple months after the season starts and then see if there's reason to be excited.

I think it'll be much the same. We'll have periods in the season where we'll look good. Mourinho will still be the villain and we'll still question why our top talents are not reaching potential. I think Liverpool and City will be our main rivals again.

Honestly i'm worried.

When we signed Mourinho we did a deal. We put we your football and Mournioishness and we start getting big trophies again. Now lets be honest here, yes we've improved but we are miles behind City at the moment. It'll really take something to catch them next season and if we don't and we end up sitting in the top 4 and not competing for the CL or the Prem I think the fans will turn and we'll have a very ugly situation on our hands. Where a very angry and entrenched Mourinho and a bored and angry fan base start butting heads.

I hope i'm wrong but I fear that i'm not.

Hopefully we'll win the FA cup and that'll send us all off into the summer feeling good about the club.

The signings are unknown but hard to see a change in system without a change in manager
Well, i'm still not sure whether Jose will go into next season using a 4231 or 433.

Since the City game, he has used a 433, which suggests Mourinho will go with a 433 next season, but he started with a 4231, so it's hard to tell.

Season after season I am losing interest in football, frankly I couldn't even wait for this season to end. The one thing I will definitely not be interested about is the new signings . I do not want to get into the same cycle again. I am one of the people who doesn't care about quality of football . The only thing that annoys me is half arsed approach to games and sadly that is what annoyed me the most this season. There are far too many in this squad who turn up only when they feel like it . It is one of the premier reasons I won't really be sad if anyone is sold . I feel like mourinho is in a very delicate position and the third season could really go either way depending on how we start

Unless we have a complete rehaul over the summer I think next season will be much the same.

The crushing humiliation of the naysayers as Jose's Unvincibles cruise to a Champions League & 110 points plus Quintuple Silverware Onslaught.

Sanchez & Pogba facilitate levels of team integration previously unseen in the British game, they volunteer to donate 50% of salary to Charity, and they both close down all their social media activities. Especially the physique-exhibiting shite with those fecking dogs...

Lukaku improves his first touch & starts impersonating Didier Drogba

Mesut Ozil playing well on an away ground after about mid October

Everlasting peace in the World

...or just the Lukaku one maybe, eh? please...

I'm excited to see what happens in the next season. I feel that we are on a upwards trajectory so I'm excited to see if we can continue to improve and win the league etc. I'm also looking forward to the new signings.

Aye, even if we do get carried away potential new signings always brings a lot of excitement. RedCafe is the best place for transfer muppetry.

Initially I was thinking more of the same and have to abide my time, but with Faria leaving, Mourinho has a chance to get in a coach who has resemblance of decent attacking football plan and a way to improve our players through coaching. Not going to win the league or champions league any time soon, but if we can play good football, show progress and stay close to City I would be content.
