Neymar wouldn’t last a season in Manchester.
Can’t think of a potentially more problematic manager-player relationship than Neymar and Jose.
A complete non story.

Also, can’t think of a player I would want to see less playing for United.
A really irritating guy.
So Fellaini then. You would make a great manager.

You'd like to think he added a further 6 quality players to the squad in positions of need for big money and cleared out whoever he deemed not good enough. In this hypothetical scenario, our squad would be packed full of very good players and the board most likely would not be overeager to make huge investment into the squad once more the following summer.

So yes the next manager you would think, would have to make do with the great players at his disposal and operate under a buy to sell type budget for that summer. eg. Don't like Lukaku? Use those funds for a replacement.

Someone like Pochettino, Sarri, Jardim etc. would be ideal candidates to come in under such circumstances, if they're not happy working under those provisions then tough shit.

Giving Jose the biggest budget we've ever spent would be a HUGE gamble, no two ways about it. He could sign some flops and it could all blow up on us. I don't expect he would be given the funds to add 6 big money signings to the squad. If he was however, I expect there would be a price to pay the following summer...
Now I agree with this. Mou is a huge gamble if the aim is to win the league. Managers with less budget are doing roughly at the same level as the self-proclaimed special one in the league, while our direct rivals are out of sight and likely to improve even further. My only hope now is than McKenna persuades Jose to get out of his comfort zone and start playing more adventurously. Spending another 100+ mil quid and winning feck big all will hopefully make board start looking for options, unless they are happy with a top4 finish.

I am quietly optimistic that City will not have quite the same level of success next season as they have had this. More and more teams are going to learn that they are vulnerable if you go at them. I still think they are red hot favourites for the league title again, but I think there will be many more bumps in the road for them next time around.

As for United. I think Mourinho will continue to build a functional and more effective team. One that will remain uninspiring however. If all our transfer plans come together - a lot of ifs - I could easily see Martial and Pogba heading to PSG with Neymar coming the other way. I don’t want to see Pogba leave, at all, but in these circumstances I could see it working.

De Gea

Valencia Jones Alderweireld Sandro

Matic Savic

Willian Sanchez Neymar

Lukaku

Would be a brilliantly balanced line up. Somewhat pie in the sky but a boy can dream.

I think City will have a very good season again. They know the way they want to play, they have seen the results, fecking Sterling may become more lethal. Most assuredly they will continue to play fast football. As for us, I doubt we will get Neymar, and can see us fighting for top 4 again. McKenna is my only hope.

Oh that looks neat and dreamy . They will kill teams when attacking .But this team will be murdered by counter attacking teams . I dont think Matic can do all that running in midfield . From what I have seen of Savic from YouTube and 2 full matches . I felt he isn't very good defensively . Felt he is an attacking floater and he reminds me of Berbatov . He has nice touches and came off silky looking but I feel he doesn't have that pace to stop counter attacks and be gritty in midfield . The thing which is most worrying for me is doing the defensive duties of Sanchez . The guy misplaces half the balls he plays through and loses possession a lot . We need someone covering up just for me because he is always get dispossessed in the middle which usually starts all the counter from the midfield . I feel we need a proper destroyer in the middle and we kind of missed of on Dier last season and went for 2nd best option in Matic . Granted Dier isn't very good attacking wise but defensively he is fine and usually keeps it up as a literally plays as a 3rd centre back . Anyways apart from that . My own choice of dream 11 with more realistic options are

------------------------De Gea--------------------------

Valencia---Bailly----Umtiti/Toby----Sandro

-------------------------Matic----------------------------

-------------Fekir-------------------Pogba-------------

Mahrez--------------------------------------Sanchez

------------------------Lukaku-----------------------------

Umtiti or Toby Alderwerield coming for Smalling in the team.

Fekir in place of Herrera . He is a very good dribbler . A proper playmaker who is good defensively and can shield the ball properly .

Sadly with signs of Martial leaving I would draft in Mahrez . It would be nice to have a proper right winger .

It's sad that from using his youngsters regularly at Barcelona, he has turned into a cheque book manager like others. It was his willingness to use youngsters(see Busquets, Pedro) and his ability to play beautiful football is what set him apart from other managers.

I thought he was supposed to be the next big thing at City? He looked decent enough when he played.

Its unfortunate, I expect the likes of Foden to go the same way. Just like Sancho. So much for City #InspiringYouth
A week or so ago, City lost Javairo Dilrosun to Hertha Berlin on a free too. I think Brahim Diaz will be the next to leave. He has a year left.

That won’t be the last we hear of him. I’ll bet he’ll be back on the market for huge money in a couple of years. Probably take the well travelled road to Bayern Munich.

Without being a Pep apologist or whatever, he might simply not see the same talent in these City lads as what he saw in the Barca lads. I don’t see why we easily dismiss/disregard that when it’s the most probable scenario. Mind you there’s other factors at play. Like he was managing the youth team at Barca before taking the senior team, so he go to know these players and their potential as well as establish a bond with them.

Another one is that being a Catalan and Barca fan, he probably wanted to build a lasting legacy and thought he would be there forever. So he took the macro approach with the youth. Whereas at City he’s like a contractor on a short-term project. Trying to achieve best results in the minimum amount of time. And the owners are happy to throw at him (and his team) 100s of millions to see that happen.

Dilrosun was never going to make it at City at such a young age, but losing Maffeo is such a pain in the arse. Had a great game at OT in the League Cup and generally was a bit of a mini Zabaleta, after having two great seasons with Girona.

City fans on reddit are furious that he's being sold whilst someone like Danilo is kept. Maffeo is one of the few who kept Messi quiet this season.

Can you point these managers out?

Poch - no
Wenger- no
Conte - no
Klopp - no

Pep - bigger resources and an excellent league campaign. So we can agree here. And to think McKenna will come in and have that effect on Jose is not going to happen. We finished top 2 and are nowhere near the finished article in our rebuild. Jose is doing a great job you need to stop reading tabloids and internet and start looking at our team we are doing fine. Once we have working full backs and an actual right winger we will look much better. Jose has promoted youth this year in Mctominay and Rashford (50+ appearances and yet the media still try to make an issue of lack of game time) yet Stones at City (a £50m buy) was not even making the squads. It’s this shit that is annoying.
I’m happy to see Jose take the hard line it’s what Ferguson did and will work out well for us. The way he’s chopping the deadwood is great and there are about another half a dozen to follow still.

If it is the case that he can't see what everyone sees in Sancho or Maffeo, then Pep deserves to be ridiculed for that. Sancho is good enough for a starting spot at the second biggest club in Germany, but Pep does not see him worty enough to use him as a squad player and give him 20 games a year?

Maffeo is universally rated as one of the biggest RB talents in the world and everyone in Germany is drooling right now about Stuttgart getting him. Dortmund fans are furious they weren't in for him but went for 35 years old Lichtsteiner instead. You are tellling me he is not good enough and City's doing was justified, spending 100m just on right backs (!!) instead of using their own talent? I call bullshit.

Sir Alex let Pogba leave on a free and got blasted by everyone for that, rightfully so. The same with Mou and De Bruyne / Salah / Lukaku, which was mentioned a gazillion times on here, in the last month alone. This time, Pep deserves equal treatment.

Sancho I’m pretty sure was a contract issue about him not signing so he wasn’t allowed to go on tour, or something?

We may look back at this and say, what a fool pep is, but if he also goes on to win without him, what’s the issue?

Agree with this but on the SAF and Pogba thing I'm starting to think that Fergie recognised his languid style and then Pogba decided to jump ship (worked out for him) without fighting for his right to play for us. We all like to say that Rooney would've been a goner under SAF but equally Pogba would never have been brought back. A Pogba style talent with the attitude of a Fletcher is an all time great talent but as is the last couple of seasons have made me understand why Fergie didn't fight tooth and nail to keep him. Janujaz is another who would've had to pull the finger out or Fergie would've shipped him off too.

He was just about the only one who kept Messi quiet inspite of being a 20yr old.

Sancho was a contract issue but it was also due to the fact that he couldn't be given assurances to play, probably the same as Pogba.

The issue is there doesn't seem to be a clear pathway to the first team at City, with all the investment going into the academy this has to be addressed.

Yeah, he did a complete man marking job on him, for the whole game. There was a good video on it. He was very diligent and stuck to his task with aplomb, but I can’t remember him being lauded for any other performances particularly? But I get the frustration when Danilo is ahead of him, but he ain’t that bad either!

With Sancho fair enough , but my point kinda still stands. He was behind YPOTY, Sterling, who hit 23 this year and Bernardo silva. It’s not like pogba where we saw Park and Rafael ahead of him, they are legitimate reasons. It’s not like he didn’t rate him, he wanted him on tour.

Pogba also played in the first team for multiple times before leaving as a 17yr old. So it's not like Ferguson didn't rate him. Not sure why you're saying Pogba reasons for leaving is legitimate where as trying to attack Sancho for essentially doing the same.

Chelsea gave Roma an option to buy during Mourinhos period. Conte could not do anything about that.
But there wasn't uproar, was there? No one saw Salah ever having a season like he's just had. Did they? It's not like he was an obvious sensation. We still don't know if he'll even come close to these numbers next season.

KDB and Lukaku, I get the stick for Jose letting them go, especially Kevin. But not Salah.

Lot of young talents are opting for Germany because they know they will get played. Perhaps Maffeo didn't want to be backup to someone at this stage in his career and Pep let him go.

Suits people's agenda, Chelsea/ Conte let Salah go. Jose loaned him out because he didn't think he was ready.
Yep, Jose has clearly stated the he wasn't at chelsea when Salah was sold, nobody seems to care about that fact however.

edit: Didn't know about the option to buy for Roma, does put a slightly different complexion on things.

10m euros apparently. Absolute snip for a right back who has potential - there’s an absolute dearth in terms of good ones these days.

Smart move from him moving to the Bundesliga too like @Classical Mechanic states. It’s almost like a juiced up Eredivisie these days.

True, I think that is also unfortunate as the talent they have just so happens to be coming through in the positions they’re strongest in. We shall see if there is any sort of succession planning, but I think it’s a difficult one to address immediately with their squad.

Pogba also played in the first team for multiple times before leaving as a 17yr old. So it's not like Ferguson didn't rate him. Not sure why you're saying Pogba reasons for leaving is legitimate where as trying to attack Sancho for essentially doing the same.
Im not trying to attack sancho, I actually praise an Englishman making the step out the country. The whole topic was about Pep calling him out for “letting talent go” where I think it was a bit more multifaceted than he should be called out for it, that’s all.

It is not about what Maffeo has done, but what he will do in the future. Just like with Pogba or De Bruyne. I watched him live against Madrid at the Bernabeu and that kid was heads and shoulders above the rest of his team.

With Sancho, Pep should have shown him a clear route to the first team. Why did he have to buy Bernardo Silva only to have a 50m player on the bench? Couldn't Sancho have done that job, coming on in the last 10 mins and playing games in the cups? It is not like City would have less success without Bernardo this season. And don't come at me with them playing different positions, Bernardo was nearly always used on the wing at City.

That last sentence is pure bullshit. Sir Alex won the 2013 title without Pogba, but in the grand scheme of things, him letting Pogba go costed his team several years of midfield problems and hundred million quid to bring him back. Chelsea fans are crying tears these days about Mou letting De Bruyne go, despite them winning 2 titles in the last 4 years. You don't see the issue there?

Foden also won't be at City long. He needs football and Guardiola won't give it him. They'll sign another attacker and midfielder this summer. The two positions Foden could play in.

Shame because he's talented but he's at the wrong club under the wrong manager. Guardiola is more interested in breaking records.
