On the NBC broadcast Lee Dixon said the word fag referring to cigarettes talking about Sarri being a chain smoker. I must’ve missed it but he’s just had to apologize on air
What? How would that even make sense, how do you smoke a gay person?

Seriously? The BT interview to Sarri, your LB scored the winner does this prove your attacking philosophy?

Guarantee not one Journalist thought once let alone twice about asking Jose that last Friday when our LB scored our winner

Why would we want to copy teams involved in a 3-2 as if their passing out from the back was a successful strategy? They can’t defend for shit.
Dude I'm not even talking about this game in particular or who is better at defending or not. What I'm saying is every decent team (Chelsea,Arse, City, Pool, Spurs and even some midtables) look more comfortable bringing out the ball from the back than us.We are quite pathetic at it actually. It's why we can't ever seem to be able to get the ball to our forwards and resort to hoofing all the time. It doesn't take a good or bad defence to pass the ball out competently from the back. It involves defenders, passing to midfielders /wingers and having a plan to get the ball forward. Its a team thing, not just defenders. All we do is pass the ball sideways among our back four then finally lump it forward.

The state of the US media. That should be the last of their concerns.

My point is, passing out from the back is something basic every other team does quite routinely, we are not just good at it. Its why our forwards get to rely on hoofs all the time. And why any team can put us under pressure as once we get the ball we just hoof it back. Its pretty basic
and my point is, it generally doesn't make a difference. It's nice to watch, and yeah I'd like if we did play it out of the back more. But the match today was no advert for teams playing out from the back.

All those decent teams bar one finished well behind us last season. They can’t do the basics of clearing the ball! Who cares about whether we pass it out from the back or not as long as the bigger picture shows success. We bypass the press “hoofing” it as you say hence against Liverpool we’ve done better than most in the last 4 seasons...

It's not like I have any love for Chelsea either tbf.
Yeah, but you’re right though. To deem either side clearly better than the other is weird, for the exact same reasons he mentioned. I’d say it’s very little between us, and we have about the same amount of top players, with Hazard being the obvious best. Could very well come down to the form of a handful of players for each team to decide who does best.

In some places “smoking” someone means to shoot/kill them. Presumably it could be interpreted as killing a gay person to a different pair of ears :nervous:

It's why our football has been rubbish. You make it sound like we've been coming second for the past four years when its been just last season we finished second . I care that we can't play football like a decent team despite spending millions and resorting to hoofball all the time. We're not Stoke. Why mention only last season? Do you see us hoofing our way to the PL or CL since you feel its such a wonderful strategy? What success is your bigger picture showing you? Chelsea won the league two years ago and Pool played in a CL final

In other places it means having their dick in your mouth like a pipe. The world is a wonderful place

See below, Cloud7 got the gist of what I was asking

I can't imagine a professional football coach going around shooting gay people for the sake of it, I'm surprised that would even come to mind. But we are dealing with Americans here I guess :wenger::nervous:

Have you never seen a film where shooting someone is referred to as "smoke" them?
In that criteria the phrase becomes even more dodgy. Although completely innocent.

Surprised we don't have more scenarios where a word meaning different in one country causes potential offence!

I honestly think it will depend on the impact on Fred/Jorginho. I haven't seen much of the former so can't really judge, but Fernandinho and Willian were both excellent in the Premier League, so ex-Shakhtar players have form. If Fred can have a real impact on your midfield, it'll make a huge difference.

That and you getting Sanchez firing, but yeah personnel wise you and Chelsea are very close.

He's not a number 10, he's a box to box number 8. Its how Sarri used Allan at Napoli. I don't think he's pants, you do. We'll have to agree to disagree.
How good do you think his passing is? I'd say it's respectable, but certainly nothing special. He keeps it relatively simple.

Good job Sarri wasn't puffing away on two fags at the same time. Some American might've had a seizure hearing that.

It's not great. Great is Silva, De Bruyne, Pogba, Eriksen, etc.

Kante, whilst you won't see him play a defence splitting pass, will vary his range of passing. He will often switch the ball when needed, but can also play quick one touch passes too.

I really do think his on the ball work is underrated because of how good he is off it.

Thought Chelsea’s first two goals both came from long passes made in their own half?

Decent player though, impressive for a 19 yo, steady throughout the game, good composure with the ball, light on his feet, can turn away from pressure and has a good range of pass. Looks a good pick up for Arsenal, will be interesting to watch him develop, Xhaka is not the man for the PL.

Agree. Guendouzi looks like a really good player in the making. Has balls to actually play ball and take chances. His unexpected turns and dribbling past chelsea midfielders opened up a lot of space.

He is the bright spark right now in that Arsenal team. Özil just looks so lost right now. I would bench him in an instant. He is so off the rails like Pobga used to be in so many games last season.

Not sure that set up suits them. It's removing parts of what make Kante so great and effective.

Fair, I think he's perfectly average in terms of passing, but absolutely world class in terms of his work off the ball and tackling. I'd say the likes of Fernandinho and Gundogan both have a better range of passing than Kante does. I've never noticed him pulling off a pass you wouldn't expect him to make, I'd have him at Dembele level in terms of creativity on the ball, i.e ... not very. It's not 'pants' though, it isn't as if he constantly gives away possession or can't pass at all, I think he's an intelligent player who is perfectly aware that he's not technically brilliant and sticks to what he knows he can do. He leaves the creative stuff to the likes of Hazard, or now Jorginho.

feck me what has that got to do with what I'm talking about?
Think it’s disingenuous to suggest we ‘hoof’ it all the time. There is a time and place for long balls but don’t think we do it all the time. We are just one game into the new season. Let’s see how we play tomorrow before jumping to conclusions about how we adapt with Shaw, Fred and Pereira in the side. Not to mention Bailly and possibly Lindelof. Think we have better ball players now to play out from defence. Jose’s teams have, generally, not been hoof ball teams. Did Real Madrid play hoofball lol.
