What to do with Anthony Martial?

Will never do well as a winger who has to track back.. Left inside forward would bring the best out of him. But we all know that Mou will play him as a winger with defensive duties.

Ditch wingers. We don't have any.

DDG
Valencia, Bailly, Lindelof, Young
Matic
Fred, Pogba,
Sanchez
Lukaku, Martial
Just my humble opinion anyway :)
I think that team would probably end up performing better with Mata and Lingard rotating as the 10 (basically Mata in most games and Lingard when we're looking to counter or need pace there) and Sanchez/Martial/Lukaku rotating up top with one of them able to come on with 30 minutes to go and provide fresh legs, or if we need a goal, come on for Fred or Matic and give us an extra attacker.

And you'd probably need Young at RB and Shaw at LB unless Dalot is ready immediately, since Valencia provides no real crossing threat from out wide but Young would even from 25-30 yards out, and at least Shaw is young and left-footed and can carry a ball a bit.

Martial doesn’t want it bad
I used to think that. But then saw him give it everything in games and not get the recognition or faith shown in him from Jose.

Jose doesn't think he suits the way he wants his team to play. Martial will probably stay at the club because they don't want to sell him but he'll be under utilised until he or Jose leaves.

Such a shame and he'd be my first choice for left wing and Sanchez could feature on the right side if he showed good form.

It is not only what we can do with him, it is what will martial do with us because he is out of contract next year(we can trigger extension but next year it is either sell or sign new contract). He is not player for bench and he does not want to be part time player. He is too much talented to waste his career on the bench. We can talk all day how he can be sub for lukaku or how he can fight for future but he made it clear that he does not want to do that. So either we must move alexis on the right and martial on the left and stick with that attack or to sell him next summer. Jose does not want to do that so I think we will sell him next year or even maybe in winter if we buy rw.

His best form is a second striker, but I doubt Mou will play him as one.

Best realistic choice is have him on the left, Alexis on the right, Lukaku center and then interchanging the attacking roles.

He is the second best France young attacker behind M’Bappe, and mainly second because of mentality. Martial is way above in current form and in potential to DembeWho?

Sanchez has been shite in some of the game. Well the Leicester game this season. But he always tried hard and runs non stop. He did create the most clear cut chance we created and Lukaku should have scored on being one on one with the keeper. I like the talent of Martial but he does not seem to be bothered or even making an effort. It is not his bored look. Berbatov looks bored too sometimes but give the man the ball and he creates magic. Martial should give his all when he loses the ball. Lets see if Jose gets Lukaku to the right and play Martial in the CF position. I do not think so but I think playing two up front with the wingers and the midfielders providing the width may be the best option but I do not think Jose is going to do anything of that sort.

If you did see it, it's few and far between. He needs to be doing it every game, not when he decides it's worth the effort. You compare the attitudes of players like Herrera and Young, who consistently fight their way back into the side, despite being replaced by technically superior players, to that of Martials, and it's not hard to see why he doesn't play often.

For me this is his last chance. If he finally puts the effort in his ability deserves then he'll nail a position down without a problem. He simply has to apply himself.

He'll be shit on the left so that experiment wont end well. Sanchez for me is much better suited to playing on the right and he has done so a lot during his career but Mourinho doesnt fancy it unfortunately. In this scenario, I think both him and Rashford are only going to feature when Lukaku and Sanchez are subbed or rested. Rashford may get time out on the right mind.
Back when he joined there's an Alexis interview where he is asked about his strengths as a player.

He said he could play left or centrally. Right side was quite clearly a deliberate omission, so deliberate it seemed to me it was the subject of discussion during dealings/decision-making.

5:03 to 5:10

Every man and his dog knew we needed a right winger so "left, centre, or anywhere" doesn't mean anything other than "not on the right".

But no, it has to be Mourinho who doesn't fancy it.

Will Woodward have a gun to his head whilst he signs the next 5 years of his life away to a miserable existence at lowly United?
I don't know, I won't be there. Seems an odd question to ask at all, let alone me. Maybe you could send Woodward a letter?

I'll draft one up right away. I'll use newspaper cuttings to form the letters so it adds to the criminal vibe we are holding a young French gentlemen hostage in the cellar of Carrington.

More like he's seen that players unhappy arent allowed to leave, so best scenario is getting more money. Maybe enough money will make him more happy
He could just run his contract down and leave.

If Sanchez continues to underperform, put him up front alongside Lukaku and leave the wing play to Shaw/Valencia.

I might not like him anymore, but I'm willing to wait and see how he'll fare under Zidane. If he doesn't show an effort for ZZ, then, he's a lost cause.

How long has he been here? How many chances has he had to impress?
Not as long as Lukaku had during that stinky patch last year where he couldnt score in a brothel.

Will he be dropped for the next game after the gone-off display from our 'main-man'? doubt it.

Chances are chances and ultimately this is a guy who was dropped when he was impressing in january for Jose's fresh new(old) toy. So we can put away how many chances he has had cliche for now!

....give him a new 5 year contract?

Looks like maybe this was really all about a new contract after all..
If true, that's ridiculous from Ed. My first thought was whether he's trying to get Jose to resign and avoid paying the full compensation. Or maybe he's testing Jose knowing that Jose won't resign. Either way, can't imagine Martial and Jose's relationship is very good at the moment.

It's about attitudes. The difference between Lukaku and Martial is that Lukaku still looks like he wants it when he's playing bad. He doesn't let his head drop or disappear out of the game altogether through his own lack of will. Sometimes I wonder if Martial has any pride at all with the way he approaches football.

Lukaku gets more chances when playing badly because he displays an attitude which means that he'll turn it around sooner rather than later. It's such a very simple requirement and Martial doesn't look like he gets it at all. I was on the other side of the fence not long ago, arguing for him to be given more chances, but he continued playing like somebody that isn't interested. I realised that he was the problem.

Jose wanted to sell him in the summer?
Now ed wants to give him a 5 year contract.
Ed will win this power battle with mourinho thankfully and hopefully mourinho will be gone soon.

I like him, but he should have been sold if it's true the manager wanted him gone. We could have got a player in who could help the team but Woodward went over Jose's head cause he thinks he knows better.

Halving his salary and getting rid of those ridiculous bonuses he'll never achieve, no doubt? This, quite honestly is astonishing behavior from the club. I am surprised anybody would be on board with upping the salary of a player who by reports has downed tools and refuses to try for the manager.

If the board gives this waster a new improved contract then we are truly f*cked as a club.

On the contrary. He's been here since 1st Sept 2015 - 3 full years - which is more than long enough to establish himself. He hasn't done so.

It's not always someone else's fault, sometimes a player just has to take responsibility for his own performances.
