Wasn’t going to get this, as I don’t give much of a toss about Spiderman, but it looks damn pretty and swinging around town seems like great fun. If the story and general gameplay is good as well, I’ll probably crack and download it today at some point.

Damn yous video games!

From what I have read, you are free to move through the story at your own pace - which I like. I'm wanting to unlock the towers first too - and then get backpacks when they are closeby to them. Of course - when I hear there is an emergency I head to that - as I feel bad if I don't respond!

One thing I really like is the variety of suits that you can unlock. I particularly like that you can mix and match the suit powers - so the Classic suit has the Web Blossom power which is very powerful - it's good that you can apply that to any suit you like. And when you switch suits, it keeps the power and modifiers that you have active - nice touch.
Cool. I shall have to investigate this web blossom power. Still got the focus one on I think and I forget to use that half the time.

It basically causes him to jump into the air and spray everyone in range in web - needless to say this comes in very handy for larger groups! I'm still very early in the story - so not sure if it is less effective against stronger enemies, but it works well as crowd control for the regular thugs!

Sounds exactly like what I've been missing for those construction sites!

One bad thing about the controls is still the terrible AC-style one button does all with the movement. Running/walls should be seperate from the web shit, it'd make using the environment in battle much smoother and responsive, plus it would make having to level up powers more of a choice as you could use spidey's natural abilities much more than the gadget stuff.

As always with these games, be careful about levelling up too much or you'll make it trivial.

They missed a trick not having this happen in a cutscene  Could've done it for that side mission.

Loving this game - similar yet different to the Arkham games. I’m not too far in, but my thoughts so far:

Getting from place A to B was boring for most of the Arkham games - this is incredibly fun in Spider-man.

Stealth mode is not as good as Batman (or I suck)

The Riddler riddles aside (which could get annoying)- I find these more fun. They could have made the camera one a bit more difficult by removing the vibration though. It feels less of a chore than the Batman ones (although it’s still early days)

Really enjoying this so far

I’m finding the worst part of this game by far is the wall crawling. Forever sliding down walls or frustrated by the lack of movability and range of wall crawling. It’s very one dimensional and ‘clunky’. Sometimes it’s a task simply crawling round a wall corner.

It’s minor but it’s annoying.

Yeah, Prototype did it better imo.

The more I play the more everything just seems a bit meh with the actual mechanics. Also it might just be my memory, but the New York in Prototype seemed more alive too.

Getting my copy tomorrow. Not gonna be able to play it anytime soon though. Hopefully it will turn out good.

I have one enjoyed one Spider Man game in my life despite playing them all, Web of Shadows. Hopefully this game becomes the Arkham equivalent of Spiderman and gives him the recognition he deserves.

It’s not a major game release that isn’t Zelda or Mario without Redlambs casting his critical eye over it

I’m loving the game personally. The word i would use more than any is “fun”. It’s just such a fun video game. Playing it is a joy. It doesn’t revolutionise the genre particularly, but it’s such a blast to play.

You have your side quests, your towers to unlock and collectibles to find, and in some open world games these can become tedious. But because the traversal is so good in this game, and the City looks amazing, they’re a joy to do.

This is precisely my thoughts too - yes it is not re-inventing anything really, but then not every game should try to nor have to.

Cannot wait to sink a bit more time into it!

Isn't that what games should be?

I'd echo this. It's nothing outstanding or revolutionary, but the swinging and fighting aspects are fun to do.

 True, I get what he means though. It's purely a disengage your brain and mess around kind of game.

Absolutely. Gameplay is king, and video game should be, above anything else IMO, fun. Unfortunately that's not always the case, but this one nails it.
Think I'll pick this up in a few months when it comes down in price.

Yeah, that's ultimately what I'd recommend to people. It's fun and looks gorgeous, but it's basically a reskin of Batman and so you've seen it all before. Plus it does seem to be rather short, no doubt because of the dlc con job.

Decent, good fun, but not really a must have if you can wait a bit.

Collected all bags before even doing much of the main missions. Wouldn't do something like that usually but found just swinging around really fun. They probably shouldn't have made finding the locations so easy though.

I'm doing the same - those and unscrambling the towers. As you said - I usually wouldn't do these first but it's very cool swinging around the city!

Bought it in the morning, hate modern gaming - 50 minutes to install and I cannot even play 2K19 in the meantime because the disc has to be in.
Completely agree. I'd instantly go back to using memory cards for the Playstation. There was nothing better than buying a new game, popping the disk in and beginning immediately.

I also hate how online gaming has completely taken over. I bought a Dragon Ball game a few years ago and I wanted to play with my brother who was sat next to me, but all that was available was online for the co-op stuff!

This is one of the main reasons why I buy games digitally from the PS Store (that and sharing them with my son on a different PS4). I also will often pre-order them so that they pre-load ahead of the release date.

Personally, I have had less frustrations from digital games than I have had from scratched disks. They are a bit more expensive than buying them in stores if you can get a decent offer, but the convenience of having it pre-load and not having to change disks far outweighs this in my opinion.

Seriously? I absolutely hated those things, they were the worst. Running into a full memory card and not having another one lying around was a nightmare. On the original PS they held 15 saves or something. Just terrible.

The writing in this game is terrible and feck me is Mary Jane an annoying dick.

The bit when Parker gets beaten up by Otto and the Doctor does some random medical shit type on him despite having his entire suit on and he then he runs off and builds a new suit in 5minutes is hilarious. Not to mention the pet spider that seemed to enjoy nestling up to Mary Jane for a while. Or Mary Jane deciding to go into an armed military camp to talk to some random guy to find another random guy. Just really bad. Basically all the Mary Jane segments are awful, awful.

They do at least end the Otto and Aunt May storyline fairly well.

Anyone just ever find themselves just swinging about NY trying having a blast getting the boost jumps and web sling timings perfect? Then you realise you've been doing it for at least ten minutes.

Yes! I think I’m more interested in aimlessly swinging around NY than the story itself.

Yep. I still prefer Prototype's movement, but this game looks so damn good it's fun just swinging around aimlessly. I might start doing speed trials from edge to edge

 FFS why did you have to say that. That's my weekend sorted now, end to end but you also have to scale the 3 highest skyscrapers in the game.
