Why do people keep saying Conor threw first.

It's clear as fecking day what happens in that video.

1) Khabib vaults the cage and aims a flying kick at Dillon Danis.

2) A brawl ensues, Conor sees this and tries to vault the cage to join in to protect his team.

3) As he does, another of Khabib's team runs around the outside of the cage to attack Conor's team (you see this at 39 seconds, he runs between Conor and the camera man)

4) Another of Khabib's team attempts to vault the cage to attack Conor's team, Conor sees this and throws a punch at him, because that guy is trying to attack Conor's team. The guy may not have thrown a punch YET, but he had intentions to do so.

5) Both Conor and the guy he threw a punch at get back in the ring and are held back by security.

6) A member of Khabib;s team vaults back into the ring and circles around in front of Conor, words are exchanged and Khabib's teammate approaches Conor.

7) Conor, expecting this guy to throw a punch at Conor, does what you'd expect him to do and throws one too, to defend himself. This guy was intent on throwing a punch at Conor, undeniably so.

8) Another of Khabib's team, in red, jumps in and sucker punches Conor from behind.

9) The guy who Conor had originally thrown a punch at when they were both atop of the cage, then runs in and attacks Conor again.

10) They're all separated.

Nobody is innocent. But Conor did not instigate anything. Khabib is at fault. He started it, everything else is reactionary.
Conor protects and Khabib's team attacks. Very careful choice of wording.

Maybe the guy jumping the cage is going to grab Khabib and try to stop the fight ey.

It's not a big deal to me, that's for sure. I don't want to see anyone banned or stripped or a belt.
I generally feel the same, apart from some annoyance at how Conor gets different treatment at times.

But that isn't exclusive to last night's events.

Domt follow MMA that much, but ive never liked McGregor, always came across as a total gobshite who needed a genuine good hiding to learn some humility.
He's had a good hiding before and it does not change the way he acts in public. He's not doing it just because he is a twat, he's doing it because it sells fights and makes him money.

Connors actions directly led to what happened today.

If someone attacks my cousin and then I go and attack them then their actions "directly led to" me attack them. But that in no way excuses, justifies or legitimizes the second attack. Do you really not understand this?

Conor fanboys are so precious with their high and mighty attitude. Where was all this outrage when their poster boy was acting like a crazed maniac and a disrespectful scumbag for months in the buildup to the fight, I wonder. Now when he got ass handed to him, suddenly they're all up in arms about classless behaviour from Khabib's team.

As for the actual fight, I was surprised Khabib went toe to toe with McGregor and exchanged blows, this was the sign how personal it was for him, he didn't want to just win, he wanted to destroy Conor.
In fairness I think most of the people criticising Khabib were also happy to throw Conor under the bus (har har) for his behaviour. They can both be scumbags.

Against smaller men, usually, yes. All of his losses have come the same way: submissions when his striking power is of no consequence to his opponent. He’s a one-trick pony whose one trick, it seems, is vastly overrated by now. Khabib wasn’t even protecting his head/face in the square-ups from the first round onwards tonight. He wasn’t one bit intimidated by McGregor’s striking threat.
Still even that is weird, it’s MMA people get caught in submissions, every black belt under the sun will have tapped out, there also is no shame in it, you get caught, there is no way out, what are you supposed to do? People bravado at such things is just silly, what’s that an Arm bar, a rear naked choke and a neck crank. 3 times he’s tapped what is so bad about that. Also his power has failed against 2 guys and one of them was getting lit up like a Christmas tree and was going down repeatedly, he also smashed Alvarez. So really only Kahbib has been able to take the power. We’ll add in Holloway should be fighting at 155, Dustin is a 155’er so it’s not only against smaller guys.

He was able to avenge his highest profile MMA loss before now though which definitely helped. Can't imagine he'll try to do the same here, unless he convinces himself that the two year lay off was to blame.

Yeah the whataboutism is remarkable. Like conor being a scumbag somehow excuses all scumbag behavior from team khabib :houllier:

Am I excusing what khabib did? In the above scenario, I would say you instigated the whole thing by attacking the cousin though.

I didn't miss the point at all, I fully understand cultural relativism and I think it's a load of bollocks. Getting "hurt or killed" for taking the piss out of some thousand year old fairy tales is backward.
There are people getting death threats over their belief the world is flat

There are people getting hurt, abused or killed because their skin colour is different...

McGregor practically, indirectly insulted one third of the world's population with his "backward" remark over Khabib not drinking alcohol, all for the sake of getting under the skin of a single person and in doing so showed his ignorance .

If you're following that logic then Khabib instigated the whole thing by surrounding Lobov with his gang of buddies and slapping him. It's a rather silly way of looking at things though. There were various instigation points along the way and each person has to take the blame for their own actions.

I don't think this loss will affect his shtick one bit. The UFC will hope it won't and (despite what they might say) neither will whoever his next opponent. A quiet and respectful Conor would sell far fewer PPVs.

Yeah I think both should share the blame personally. I don't normally follow mma so was not aware of that as it wasn't really mainstream like the bus incident.

If you aren't trying to excuse the thug actions tonight then why even bring up an incident that has already been litigated and consequences faced? This just happened. Obviously everyone is going to be talking more about the thug like criminal behavior that just happened rather than months old news that has already been handled legally.

team khabib's action justify the tag of backwards all on their own.

And for the last time, whatever conor did months ago does not justify, excuse or legitimize team khabib acting like criminal hooligans at a sporting event potentially endangering innocent bystanders. The bus incident 1) didn't happen tonight 2) conor already faced legal and monetary consequences for that - in other words he did face the consequences of the law and ridicule for his actions.

Now its time for team khabib to also face the consequences for their thug like actions.
But do you agree that McGregor calling Khabib backward is a bit rich coming from Connor if we know how he showed his basic nature when he restored to physical attack and had endangered / injured innocent people when he threw that dolly on the bus just because he doesn't like Khabib and Khabib was in it?

Both parties involved should be blamed for tonight's events, it didn't just happen out of blue, it was just a culmination of months of insults, attacks, violence.

I've already explained that I could have chosen my words better, but at the same time, Khabib was the instigator and therefore it's natural to suggest his team are the aggressors.

But as I said before, point taken.

They are a pair of idiots who watch too many action movies. I think Khabib should be punished by the athletic commission but to see the UFC (Dana) discuss stripping the belt and feigning some form of moral outrage is so hypocritical. This is the same company that chose to use the bus footage in every promo for the last two months, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see that Dillon Danis was offered a UFC contract tomorrow and booked to fight Khabib. Conor will probably make another 30 million and go back to boxing unless he rematches Hollaway at 145, it took his teammate being attacked for him to find the motivation to take this fight and I just can't see him having the motivation to go and fight contenders.

Moving forward it is going to be really interesting to see who if anyone can beat Khabib, Lee and Ferguson will be fun fights at 155. I think Tyron beats him handily at 170. I would have talked about GSP but after last nights incident I just can't imagine GSP wanting to get involved in that.

I understand how they sell a fight, but even taking that into account, you dont behave like he does unless you are a genuine twat.

This is the problem. It's ok to sell fewer PPVs.

Dana is a piece of shit as he puts his own bottom line ahead of athlete safety and maintaining a respectable sport.

Because actions have consequences and what happened tonight was a direct consequence of mcgregor and how ufc handles him.

No, I don't agree at all. Conor was already blamed and faced the consequences from his actions months ago.

Tonight team khabib are the violent thugs. They need to face the consequences directly for their actions.

Definitely not to the same degree, almost blinding someone and possibly worse is not the same as kicking someone.
No but the kicking someone led to a mass brawl, which is why Khabib will likely recieve a pretty heavy punishment. It would have been one thing if Khabib just hit Danis backstage but the commission will see this as him endangering the people in the crowd too.

But yeah, despite what White said McGregor should certainly have recieved a suspension along with his actual arrest. You could argue that letting his antics slide for so long fed into this.

No one excuses anything. Khabib and his team were acting like thugs and created a situation where people's life and welfare could have been in danger. The whole thing should be thoroughly investigated and the guilty parties should be punished accordingly.

I'm just trying to look at what happened tonight not as a separate incident but rather a consequence of what was going on in a build up to the actual fight because it has a lot to with that current mess.

What consequences? He would have, and should have been in jail now, if it wasn't for his well-paid lawyers and money he's making for Dana White.

His manager was part of an extremist outfit who have committed acts of terrorism and then turned informant to the FBI. He has an incredibly shady past all round.
Didn’t the FBI then stop using him as an informant as they didn’t trust him.

I think the “mad backwards cnut” for not drinking line is more offensive to the religion itself than calling someone with the manager’s history a terrorist, but then I’m not Muslim.

Yeah humanity would definitely be better in the long run if neither of them breed
Too late.

I would have thought that a third Diaz fight would make more sense. It would be a big fight, it's one he knows he can win and it would get some momentum back on his side if he wants to keep going after that.

Than I'm curious why you think Khabib did what he did, attacking a particular member of McGregor's crew when he never did anything like that before and he had a crapload of fights.

That's a separate issue. Rich don't pay the same consequences as poor people in the US. I already mentioned that if poor folks of brown skin had done what team khabib did tonight they would still be in jail not released like the very rich team khabib. team khabib is absolutely going to end up benefiting from the exact same wealth and influence as Mcgregor did. They already have tonight.

Maybe but i doubt he'll get a visa to the US again and he certainly won't be fighting in Vegas any time soon. So not sure how marketable he is right now.

Time will tell, personally i don't think he should be allowed to fight again. If they let Khabib away with attacking someone it could happen again. The stupidest thing about his actions are it could have started a full blown riot in the stadium.
He will definitely get a visa. What Conor did was far worse yet he got a visa and he they used it to promote him. No matter what Dana says he will be rubbing his hands with glee with the money he will make off this. Khabib will get a fine and nothing more. If they went all out and banned him it'd only be a small ban. He will certainly fight.

I just don't see how his persona works in a division where he is unlikely to ever be able to beat the champion. The whole act was cringeworthy enough already but how could he walk around now and call himself pound for pound number 1.

If I was him I would go and be the face of Zuffa boxing and fight a load of cans whilst pocketing cash.
