Hopefully they get the first goal after 10 seconds then we have 89mins + to start playing attacking football. That said we barely left our half at home even at 1-0 down so who knows what we'll do.

Yeah...many DM's and still the opponents attackers just run at our defenders just like that.
A good example of when we didn't have DMs protecting our defenders was Spurs.
Moura is not a super attacker. He isn't Messi, but the guy just ran through our entire defence, uncontested. He did it once, then did it again. Had we played another 45 minutes, I am sure that Moura would've repeatedly gone through our defence like a hot knife through butter.

...and the worst part of it was that, before that match, I'd not even heard of this guy. I could understand if Messi did this to us, but Moura?

We can, but Juve are several levels above us. It's like a Championship side coming to OT and saying that they can win. It can be done, but it is highly unlikely. A draw would be a fantastic result for us.

I do feel that some of you don't realise just how good Juve are. The last time they lost a match was in April, against Napoli (I think).

If we sit back and allow them to play sure yes they'll look much better than they are. But if we pressed high and caused them problems we could get a result. I'm not expecting to win or anything because I know the way we like to play but we could a get a draw if we played more attacking.

Please play Herrera and Martial again.
Surely no doubt Martial is starting?!!

Herrera is a midfielder I rate but seems his issue is he plays well in his sub games, then starts and can't replicate that intensity over 90 minutes.

True, but then play him for 60 minutes and then sub him.

Yes, of course. But watch all the moany feckers in the match thread criticize him for doing nothing all game but completely disregarding the fact that Juventus will mark him with 2-3 players every time he gets the ball. That's exactly what they did at Old Trafford and it worked.

The above will happen but it's a massive plus for a good attacking squad as it offers them more room to attack. We're not a good attacking team, though. Especially not on the Right where most the space will be.

I know it's difficult, but I hope we can have some pride and put in a stirring performance in Turin to get an improbable win.

Sick of Mourinho claiming we are fodder for Juve and being talked about like we are a tiny club from some lower league against a European giant.

I know I'm in the minority but I feel we have a team capable of beating this Juve team. I've watched them a lot this season and they're really nothing special at all. Jose has done a spectacular job convincing everyone we're crap and lowered expectations so much even the mere we no feel Burnley going against any big team
I'm the same as you. Was beyond surprised to see Juventus completely dominate us at Old Trafford and passing the ball around like prime Barcelona.

Was expecting a more evenly contest and not to be played out of the park that way, especially that lopsided possession in favor of Juventus. They normally don't blow teams nor dominate the way they did at Old Trafford even against fodders team in Italy.

I've seen some pretty ridiculous things written in this thread in regard to both teams squad. I've seen some claim that hardly 3 players of ours would get into Juventus squad. I'm sure if one asks the dame people to list Juventus squad and name the strength and abilities of each players they wouldn't be able to tell for more than 3 or 4. Some just don't have any idea of what they're talking about and are just regurgitating what they've heard some where.

They were pretty rubbish in the second half too, we were just too crap to take advantage. Maybe the team just took the cue from our manager and decided not to bother

    Are you the ref?
Wouldn't it be nice if for once, we could turn up against a big team, take the lead and stay on the front foot for the whole of the game.

Ahhhh Fergie, we love you *sigh*

It's away to Juventus, we really can't expect much. At home at least we can say that we should be going on the front foot and expect something, but away to one of the top 3 teams in Europe? Nah. I'd be shocked if we get anything, though wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-0 loss or something like that.

In a similar way to how Derby can win at Old Trafford, yeah. Technically, we can win.

I expect us to park the bus & try to escape with a 0-0. Similar to Anfield last 2 seasons.

Championship side? Derby? This is how we compare to Juve now? Really?

Juventus don't do heavy wins. I don't see us losing by more than two goals and we can nick a 1 goal win if we play 2nd half football for the whole game.

We actually gave Juventus a game in the second half, we have that ability but it seems the team needs a rocket up their arses.

Our style of play is changing 'slowly' but surely. That of course doesn't mean we will win or anything but i don't see a heavy defeat coming our way in any shape or form. Can see a draw myself.

Sometimes the big teams are worse/more vulnerable at home than they are away.

We can win this if we play our A game from the start instead of only switching on after 45 mins.

Tony M will be marked and double marked by Juve Today.
Should be easy to capitalize on one player commanding the attention of two defenders if this team had the slightest clue how to move off the ball and make the right supporting runs

    Some pre-match listening

The latest episode of the United Hour Podcast is out now - just in time for the match, so if you've got a bit of time to spare before the game be sure to listen to it and give feedback here.

    The FA appeal

The FA have officially appealed the verdict by an independent commission that Mourinho was not proven of using insulting, abusive or improper language after the win against Newcastle. Thoughts from a member:

I am not sure why people are crying when it is blatantly obvious that possibly saying "feck off" unintelligibly under your breath and in no direction in a foreign language is far, far more important and every effort should be made to sanction/punish both him and the club rather than investigating the illegalities concerning financial fraud, bribing, corruption lying, hiding and cheating to the tune of over a billion £ systematically undermining and cheating every other club and the sport as a whole with the assistance adding and abetting of the governing bodies of football.

The Mourinho apologists are out in force again I see...

Yep, if you notice, without Martial and Pogba, our attack looks as clueless as a hen caught out in the rain. I have no hope that we will score if Martial and Pogba are marked out. And considering Martial's current form, Juve would have done their homework.

Like Toddler said, in the first leg he was marked quite a bit. Like @Greck said, we should turn it to our advantage but probably won't.

    Last minute lineup questions

With less than an hour until lineup predictions close there are a few questions to ask.

Will there be any changes in defence?

Mourinho was extra critical of the United defence after the win against Bournemouth:

"The score should have been like 6-2," said Mourinho.

"We were defensively awful. As a team we didn't press or do any of the work we did in the week. People watching this game will not believe how hard we worked this week."

With Valencia, Jones, Bailly and Darmian in the wings, could one (or more) make an appearance tonight?

    Will Matic be dropped?

It took a series of underwhelming performances before Lukaku has been dropped. Matic has arguably been struggling as long, if not longer, than Lukaku but will it be enough to see him dropped - possible for someone more agile? Herrera made a great cameo off the bench against Bournemouth, but if he is to appear tonight I feel it'll probably be for Fred. Fellaini could also make an appearance, but with the length of time he has been out, I feel he'll be on the bench.

The return of Lingard and who will play from Mata and Rashford?

Lingard has slowly been making his return from injury. With a big game against City at the weekend, could we see Lingard step up his return with an eye on that match? Mata started against Bournemouth but Rashford came on to score the winner. Which of the two will start?

    Damien's predicted XI

    De Gea

    Young Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera Pogba
    Rashford Sanchez Martial

Really wouldn't be surprised to see any of Fellaini, Mata or Lingard start today.

Tough call between Lingard and Sanchez for RW, but I think Jose wouldn’t want to play Sanchez against City because of his tendency to give the ball away so cheaply again and again.

I always have a feeling we'll win and tonight is no different.
I used to share a similarly optimistic view of our games. Jose's overly negative approach (particularly in the CL) has taken that away unfortunately

Still, we can always hope for a positive performance. Maybe the lads will surprise us.

Can see us starting slowly again and that might put this game beyond doubt If Juventus are up for it.

Would love to see us turn them over but can see us conceding silly possession and that is just asking for trouble

Jose has spoken a lot before the game about starting slowly and how it’s important not to start slowly against big clubs, so I actually think we will see a different United in the first half.

    We’ll see.

I don't think it will be an anihilation tonight. I just expect Juve to be very comfortable and cruise to a straightforward victory, maybe 2-0.

The chances of us getting beaten by 3 or 4 are much higher at the weekend imo.
