We were averaging 60% possession under LVG. He saw more of the ball. Saying that, he's certainly a better player than then, even in attack.

He's 'looked better' in his first season (don't think he actually has) because very few defenders in the league knew him. Ever since his game was closely analysed by the other teams and the tricks that worked in the beginning are just not working as well anymore because the defenders/players are aware of his playstyle. Bit weird that it has to be explained.
That doesn't make sense because ever since the debut against Liverpool teams were doubling or tripling up on him because they knew he was our only attacking threat yet in that debut season he was still able to be really effective

Yeah nah, this is exactly why this thread cannot be taken seriously 90% of the time.

Wow! Really unnecessery to be so rude! Nothing he says is controversial. He’s right about Mourinho’s methods, and tread carefully before you decide to label me a Mourinho fan.

He pushes all players who doesn’t run through brick walls for him. I disagree with his methods because he seems to apply the same one’s to all of the most talented players, and think he thrives on conflict. He has lost more ‘phenomenal talents’ than he has managed to make his men, imo.

No reason to use that kind of language just because you disagree with someone. Try arguing your point instead. That’s kind of the point with these forums. Occasionally you’re going to see differing opinions. Luckily this isn’t rawk;)
All things have been debated already. People like me took it from countless morons who made anyone who said that Mourinho is not handling Martial well to be a poor fan. But now that Martial is playing well(which we all said he would if he was given a run in the team), suddenly Mourinho is a genius and he pushes some player like this.

Anyone who seriously believes that Mourinho bought Sanchez and played him 10 months(despite being horrible throughout those 10 months) to push Martial is either a liar or a moron or a Mourinho bunghole-dweller.

hmmmm, 10 months @redIndianDevil, nothing like hyperbole eh?

31-Jan: Martial & Sanchez start v. Spurs, 11-feb: Martial & Sanchez start v. Newcastle

11th Feb -> 19th May (end of season) = 3 months.
10th Aug (start of season) -> 6th Oct (Newcastle home) = 2 months.

So it's 5 months actually, not remotely close to the hyperbolic 10 you posted.

This season before Newcastle he started 4 of our first 8 games (50%), so really it was the 3 months at the end of last season when he was rather harshly treated and dropped.

Okay you got me. I'm quite lazy, so I don't want to waste time researching exact dates. Sanchez came in at January, this is November, excluding January and October, it's more like 8 months of wasted time. If Martial had continued his form in the left wing from January last year, we'd have been in a far better position now. If you want to argue exact date and times of when and where Martial played, go ahead and waste your time I don't care. Post January of last year, Martial didn't get a continued run in the position he is good at. Starts in the right wing and sub appearances here and there doesn't count as I have already said all Martial needed was a continuous run in the side.

You people can twist this in all way you want but the truth is Mourinho bought Sanchez to effectively get rid off Martial. If Sanchez had shown half the form Martial is showing now this year, Martial would still be having an "attitude" problem.

You don't need to research to know Sanchez joined at the end of Jan, the season ends in May and starts again in August and that Martial has been a certain starter for over a month.

You just need to not want to be hyperbolic, although asking for that on the caf these days is like asking for the sky to rain gold.

Said it many times, Martial is by far our most talented attacker. Needs to play every game and be TRUSTED. Yes he will have bad games, yes he may be cr*p for 70 mins in a game. However he has the ability to flick the switch and create or score a goal out of nothing. Those players are priceless. Was harshly sidelined when Mourinho bought in Sanchez, however as Sanchez has stunk the joint out on the left, Mou has been forced to go back to Martial. Would like to see Utd settle on a front three of Martial, Sanchez (centre) Rashford

Agreed but Rashford and Sanchez need to do a lot more to secure their spots though, no-one gave this to Martial easy, he was forced to come up with the goods vs, Newcastle and to keep doing it since then. He's been rewarded by then being allowed to have an off game (such as vs. Juve at home). Same can't be said of Sanchez and Rashford right now, although Sanchez has made the right steps these past two games.

Let's stop guaranteeing players places and make them fight tooth and nail for them.

Agreed. I still think we need to sign another striker in the Summer, eg a replacement for Lukaku. Would like to see us go after either Dybala or Icardi.

I'm personally just so bored of seeing players allowed to stink the place out since SAF left, Rooney, Valencia, Lukaku, Sanchez etc etc. I think any player worthy of playing for Manchester United is capable to win his spot and keep it, and then gaining the right to have an off game or two.

Squad is bloated with mediocre players. We have what 5 CB's? None of them are top class, we have 2-3 Rb's who should be no where near the first team. Top heavy squad lacking in quality

So you have read all the posts in all the threads and gathered that all are hyperbolic?

Don't you find it ironic that you criticize me for hyperbole when you have no problem using the same yourself?

We’ve certainly reached a point where Martial is giving Jose what he wants and is now trusted.

Anthony needs to continue to perform at this level, and even improve, as he’s shown he can do what is asked.

Mourinho needs to keep picking him and allow him to do his stuff, forgiving poorer games.

It’s this simple now.

Sooo, someone was mean to you, so you’re just going around using very grafic language to anyone who disagrees with you? Well, okay then, carry on.

It's not about people being "mean" to me. I've been called a lot worse over the internet and I don't give a feck. It's the dishonesty of the people who now credit Mourinho for Martial's current form that makes me mad.

100% agree and the proof is in the pudding, the moral of the story is "do you want to just faff about being mr sulky? Or do you want to actually put a bollock on the line and gain the respect of everyone around you including the fans" Jose can't take the adulation he's receiving away from him but he can harness it. I think it is well played, the toxic weirdo's will rabidly disagree and want to fight about it. Good on them, I'm enjoying this Martial.

You could have had Alderweireld, who is far better than any of your CBs, but United decided they wouldn't sell Martial to Spurs, probably because they thought it wasn't deemed befitting of an 'elite' club to give way to Spurs.

Result: Spurs get to keep a top-class CB for at least another season, helping us to play in our preferred back 3 formation (as he did against Fulham in our last match), whilst United are stuck with a bit-part player who wants out.
Imagine if the board had not been so arrogant, as Glaston implies here, and actually sold Martial to Spurs for Alderweireld + cash.

The main issue is he already said that last season when he started the season benched and fought his way back into the side by Jan...

Wouldn’t waste your time mate. When someone starts using terms like ‘Mr sulky’ you know they are running out of reasons to moan about a player.

A frustrating player. Has much potential, if he really gets to know his game, and what he is good at, and what he is not so good at.. because he isn't good at everything. I still feel he is trying to work that out, and this is a little worrying because he has been been at United, Monaco, Lyon (B).

He seems to still, not understand how to be that effective player over 90 mins.

He is scoring goals, which is the key for him.. he arrived scoring goals, and we looked at him as a No 9. I still feel this is where he should try and develop, his all round game. Has pace, power... he should be a frightening player, and yet..... he rarely is. Why is that? Part him, part Mourinho I think... I really hope this is changing.

He needs to improve his left foot... learn to go outside of his man, consistently... lead the attacking aspect of United's game, and be that reliable focal point. Set the tempo for the game.. not for 15/20 mins... but week in week out.. (like Zaha for Palace...) that's where he has to develop.

I still am not sure whether he is clear on how he should play. Is he an explosive player (like Mane at Liverpool for example....), or a ball-player-come-sometimes-goes-past-people...

Martial could be fantastic... but he needs more of an identity, as what we can expect from him for 90 mins, every week. We still, haven't quite got there yet... but things are looking better. If he cannot get confidence from how things are going now, then I do wonder.

But NO.. he is not a £400k a week (or even close to it....) player. He wants anything like that, he can jog on as far as I'm concerned. Score 20+ goals in a season. Then do it again. Then we can start talking.
We're not an effective team for 90 minutes of a game. When the manager addresses this, then we should look at individual performances

A good game for him today will be similar to his performance vs Juventus, perhaps we can manage a few counter attacks in the first half as well. We will not see much of the ball today, I’m afraid. It’s important he manages to stay focused for when we get our few chance.

One guy said he's the same level as Kleberson and Bellion. Yet these guys are the ones who run around talking about Martial FC.

Is common. Lots of oppo fans acting concerned about how we didn't pawn off our talents to them.

That CA1 guy is awful. He predicted Martial would have a shocker against Bournemouth because, and I quote, "he's giving it the big un on social media". His crime? Because he retweeted the club's tweet about him being POTM. Once fulltime rolled round he was all sweetness and light, saying he's amazing and blah, blah, blah. Pathetic.

His devotion to Mourinho is total and unconditional, so not surprising.

I mean it’s just completely nonsensical. If we sold Martial tomorrow (or even before the season started) I can guarantee we would make a profit on Martial, even taking into account inflation.

I’m worried that this is the sort of game in which our players give him the ball on the halfway line and he’s expected to beat five players for us to have any chance of a result. If it doesn’t come off, he gets pelters.
