I'm sad Mourinho didn't work out for us, really thought he could get us back up there fighting for the big trophies. The way this season developed, no shock that he got sacked. I (like most) thought he will be gone when top 4 was mathematically impossible, so it is good to see Woodward actually grew some balls. But still, our best manager post-SAF, 2 trophies and a 2nd place finish.

Zidane has won trophies but 'proven beyond any doubt' is debatable as he did it with RM who had a top team already. With UTD it will be to bring in players and I know I sound like a broken record but it's a rebuild and yes it's been a rebuild since SAF left but we need to get in a whole new management system from top to bottom which hasn't happened yet and I think the club will move in that direction with a DOF.
I don't get why all the other top clubs rebuild in a matter of months and go on from there yet it takes United years and years to get nowhere.

Whenever Real or Chelsea sack a manager, the expectation is not lowered for the next manager.

We need a few additions to make us competitive, but most of these players finished ahead of Liverpool and Spurs a few months ago.

He finally doesn't have to be worried about a manager talking shit about him to the public.
He can finally let his ponch free instead of sucking it in.
I'm really happy for the players right now but now none of them have any excuses anymore. 7 or 8 will most likely up their game but we are still left with 9 or 10 horribly inadequate players for a club like ours.

Exactly, those clubs put proper personnel in place and make a few additions and boom, they're right back to contending for top honors

Makes no sense that the self proclaimed 'biggest' club in the world takes years on end to have any semblance of an effective rebuild, its embarrassing really

Ed should step away from Footy related decisions given his hand in the last 3 failed regimes. A DOF cannot come soon enough

In hindsight, he should have been sacked after/during the US preseason.. the atmosphere he created was toxic , players all blamed and ostracized , players rushed after world cup duty, Martial left out after coming home to see his newborn.. maybe our season would have been different

It's nonsense. Of the last 5 title winners, 3 of the coaches were in their first season with the club. Pellegrini in 13/14, Ranieri in 15/16, and Conte in 16/17. Not saying Utd should be perfectly able to compete for the title from now on, but there's no reason to lower expectations because of "rebuilding".

I feel sooooooooo gooood. Toxicity is gone, throwing the players under the bus is gone, the big blamer, the cnut of a manager is no longer related to United. I am sure the atmosphere at the club has changed immediately after Jose had left. I am actually looking forward to our game against Cardiff this weekend.

I reckon the style of play will improve drastically straight away. Pogba will actually want to play, players will have a lot more freedom. I actually cant wait, for the first time in a while.

He's a well respected news reporter, mainly war zones, places of conflict. ( Perfect for Old Trafford at the moment )
Never seen him report on sport before though.
Hmm that’s strange then. Maybe he’s heard something concrete if he doesn’t usually poke his head into sporting matters.

Here, there, everywhere...
What a thing to wake up to in the morning. Didn't expect it to happen as I was fully convinced that he won't be out till top 4 is mathematically possible. This is such a surprise and a welcome relief. Only a few hours ago I was shitting on the incompetence of the board for letting the nonsense roll on. Now the noise coming out of the club is everything I desired:

  • Sack the moaning sulker - Check
  • Appoint a caretaker manager till the end of the season - Check
  • Appoint a Dof before appointing the new manager - Check
  • New manager to be someone who understands the attacking traditions of the club - Check
I don't know how it'll work out but this definitely is a good start. Getting rid of Jose was of utmost importance. We were going no where with him and there was an air of negativity surrounding everything.

Hopefully the club will get it right this time around. Here's to a better future.

Happy 18th, y'all.

The biggest relief from today is that it shows the board isn't just concerned with the bottom line. We all thought they'd wait until top 4 was gone, to save a few pennies on the payoff, but they didn't.
I must admit, the decision gave me a bit more confidence in the board.
Good on them for being decisive in this case

I am absolutely stunned and speechless that the board have taken action. It may just be a merry Christmas after-all.

Now that the dust has settled down, i'd like to see who the players will hide behind next. We have some of the worst professional players on the game.

Goes to show there’s at least some on the board that are gunning for the poor fans, especially those traveling fans who deserve so much better than this.

Beyond all the hoopla doopla of finally sacking Mourinho for the poor results it's amazing how big this piece of news is across all networks.

It just goes to show that you cannot embarrass our club without forcing even our board to act. I mean Sky News have this before the Brexit news and that's no mean feat...

I just hope we'll be in the news for the right reasons next time around.

Holy shit, I mean seriously, I don't know what to think. I was leaning toward the 'Out camp' lately because I couldn't see him turning this around.
It was all coming to this but didn't expect us to terminate his contract before new year, my guess was January.

Apart from the match going fans who were still full behind him and were singing his name while booing Pogba, there was 10% of fans who still voted No in the sacking thread and 20% who thought he needs more time; and this without looking at fans in social media like twitter, instagram, facebook,... and some folks in pubs.
The poll means nothing - for all you know they're results from months ago that were never changed.
I go to games and the fans weren't singing for Mourinho by the end. Most singing seemed to be aimed more as a feck you to Woodward than out of any genuine desire to see Jose stay. Songs don't carry nuance, they're brief and to the point. "I'm supporting you while the game goes on but am largely at odds with your scattergun transfer policy and don't see any tangible improvement on the pitch despite over 2 years and £400m worth of investment" isn't that catchy.

He lost the fans ages ago.

For once I'm willing to fight by your side, chief.:D

If I put aside my irrational dislike of his demeanor, he is a good coach and he could even be more than an interim option, if he fits with the future DOF.
Plus he is an ex player, believes in the style United traditionally likes, is a proven rebuilder and works well with youngsters.

Hopefully I can start enjoying football again. I've been so numb the last six months or so. Not really enjoying wins and haven't really cared about the losses either. I'm sad Mourinho didn't work, but it's been clear as day that we've been disjoint both on pitch and off for some time now. It'll be interesting to see if this will spark some flair and drive into our players or if they are actually just very very poor footballers.

Exactly! I don't get the mindset of a lot of fans. Real and Chelsea have done it so many times: sack manager, give the new manager a few signings, expect to win trophies. I just don't know why it takes us so long to rebuild...
