Truth. The results at Chelsea were much worse, but it seems like the misery surrounding both clubs at the time of Mourinho faltering was similar. Just a massive black cloud, players eyeing a sharp exit etc. I hope we get the same lift in morale now that he's gone.
Yep. We all knew the supposed "3rd season" bit, but we thought it wouldn't happen to us, or would happen from a position of greatness!
Yet here we are, pretty much exact same toxic atmosphere.

The truth is he had some decent success in the cups and 2nd, but he never really got the team in his own shape, which is his own fault of course, but partially down to the mess in the summer.
However, too many times he had to replace what he'd done - Ibra going, Mhky failing, Bailly being so up and down, Matic dropping off, meaning in the end we ended up well off.

This season was a classical downward spiral. He truly was on a significant upward trend last season and shot himself in the foot signing Sanchez. He destroyed the team dynamics on the field that had scored 4+ goals in 6/7 games of the season. He introduced someone into the dressing room that’s makes absurdly more than everyone else. It was a catastrophic signing. You can argue it was then just the board/Ed’s fault - but I only blame them for the wage they gave him. I blame Jose for the way he put him in the team.

This season just has been petty at best. Someone swinging wildly knowing he’s lost it since the summer.

Fair fecks to you Mourinho. You could have gone on to be one of our best ever but your third season syndrome fecks you again
Got to agree with that, all that situation required was dropping Mikytarian and getting shot of him in the transfer window, Sanchez has been just as awful for 3 or 4 times the salary.

Managed to miss this news all fecking day and only found out from this thread. Get the feck in! This has made my day.
Surely you have United supporting pals, who would have annihilated your phone?

I got a message about 5mins after the news broke just saying "wow". I knew what that meant from those 3 simple words, and then within 10mins everyone was getting in touch!

And it was Chelsea, who have the knack of making immediate returns the next year
Lets just hope when we hire the right people and do a Chelsea next year and win it. Woody has got some strong choices to make and if he does (although I haben't got much confidence in him) them correctly I think we will be fine.

Yeah, I was stood in the queue in Sainsburys and my phone started going mental, I knew exactly what had happened. Even had cheeky git ask if I had a spare for Saturday as he suddenly wants to go now.

Shat on the players. Shat on the club. Made every excuse under the sun. The world revolves around him. An arrogant, insufferable man. To say I despise him would be an understatement. I nearly vomited when we initially hired him. Why anyone thought he'd be a good fit here is utterly beyond me. Not to mention an absolute fraud of a manager, his true ability has been exposed. When the going gets tough he doesn't wanna know about it. Now piss right off you absolute scumbag of a human.

That's pure hindsight though.
At the time we all suspected he was going to City and a bit envious. Then we stole him and we were wowed.
Obviously it just hasn't worked at all, but let's see how a different manager affects him. I still have hope he might be a good player for us when he's not having to pick it up 40 yards from goal and try and beat everyone

My whatsapp was going crazy but I ignored it all day. I've had eye strain today so I've not used my phone or gone online much at all. I'm so stoked I won't be able to sleep tonight!

Course there are the acolytes will be devastated. But they’ll wait until we lose or Pogba plays shite before they come out in mass support of their man Jose.
Devastated, no. Disappointed it didn't work out, yes.

Those 'acolytes' are no better or worse than those who would've found it difficult to stomach seeing Mourinho win anything major with United due to their sheer dislike of him. He could've won the CL and people on here would've still found cause to call him a cnut. For all the talk of his style of play, people wouldn't have given a sh*t were he winning. And that is the difficulty for managers like Mourinho - they have no fallback. No saving grace in the form of pretty football to detract from a failure to win trophies.

I was desperate to see Mourinho succeed at United. I've loved watching his career over the last 15 years. And I can appreciate his approach as much as that of Guardiola. They're both winners.

But I'm not blind to his failings at Manchester United and I recognise the need for urgent change. And in football that can only really be facilitated by a change of manager. Mourinho has failed. The board are failing. And the players haven't covered themselves in glory either. Everyone has let one another down. So much of what has happened in the last 2 1/2 years (and indeed post SAF) could and should have been done differently.

People are entitled to still like Mourinho. It doesn't mean they'd sooner the club burn than part ways with him. It doesn't mean they love United any less. They're just dismayed at the situation and disappointed that they didn't get to see the best of Mourinho and the best of Manchester United together.

Mourinho polarises option like no other. This forum has been evidence of such polarisation. They'll be plenty of point-scoring over the coming weeks and months as the truth of where our problems lie are exposed.

Their was a genuine cheer in my office today when this was announced.

Sadly I went out for a beer with some colleagues at lunch to celebrate.

Moutinho was never the right man for our illustrious club and the fact that the scousers were singing please don't sack mourinho says it all..

OH SHIZZLE. Late to the party here but I'm thrilled.

Keep it classy. Thanks Jose for the one trophy we never won. Let's move on.

Obviously not results wise, but worse by far than Moyes and LvG for me, more so becasue he's probably sipping champagne to celebrate a job well done just now.

I was delighted when we appointed him and I’ve reiterated that point time-and-again. I was a huge fan of the man and I felt it was the right fit, him coming here. I don’t know why but it just felt like he would get us back to the top and was the right man to do so. I know plenty didn’t want him but I did and I really expected him to succeed here. I wanted to see the Jose from his first Chelsea spell with his swagger and that cheeky side that made him a pantomime villian but ultimately, highly respected and admired.

The thing is, I’m not too arrogant or desperate to point score on the internet to admit I was wrong. I was so bloody wrong. I would have happily seen him replaced in the summer by a suitable candidate but conversely I was happy to give him until after the summer to see how we would fare. He hadn’t got my full backing at that stage but yeah, I did back him to an extent. I’m aware plenty lost faith after the Seville debacle and although I was pissed off, I still had some faith in him to turn it around. The summer was a mess and there’s a multitude of factors for that not just Jose. Thing is, Poch suffered a similarly disappointing summer but he just got on with it and made do with what he has. Did Jose do the same? Did he feck. He bitched and moaned and played some fecking bizarre line-ups all to prove a point. He couldn’t get the best out of what he had at his disposal and it was actively hurting the club with his antics and on-field performances. It was clear as day at this point, that he had to go.

When I say ‘acolytes’ I’m referring to maybe 5 or 6 posters on here. The arrogant bunch who felt petty internet point scoring was better than having the best interests of the club at heart. These posters would come out in their droves after any scraped win over relegation fodder and condescend the life out of all these ‘Jose haters’ and sit on top of their perch spewing their bile. All the while they would attempt this faux-impartial stance but it was so transparent it was untrue. Not to mention the fact they slated Pogba, Martial, Shaw and anyone else who Mourinho took a dislike to. They also slagged off basically our whole team and would lay the blame with literally anyone but Jose who would always be exonerated in their eyes. Sorry but yeah, this tedious shit just got wearing. Every discussion about Mourinho and actual facts about how utterly shite we are was always deflected onto Woodward, other players, this fantasy that he wasn’t backed etc. These are the ‘acolytes’. People who would defend him with substance I have no issue with but in truth, these were few and far between. The desperation to defend him culminated in posters saying that we would be much better off had we signed the likes of Perisic, Maguire and Willian. Thank feck he wasn’t backed for that lot.

We are virtually 12 points behind Chelsea and 14 behind Tottenham. But we have Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Newcastle coming up.

Liverpool: Wolves, Newcastle, Arsenal, City
Chelsea: Leicester, Watford, Palace, Southampton
Tottenham: Everton, Bournemouth, Wolves, Cardiff
Arsenal: Burnley, Brighton, Liverpool, Fulham

Hoping at the January break we'll be 'virtually' 15 behind Liverpool, 10 behind Chelsea, 10 behind Tottenham and 6 behind Arsenal. Then we play Tottenham and if we win, we'd probably only be around 7 points off top4. Chelsea play Arsenal, City and Tottenham all within a month after that too.

Needed to happen, but I liked him.

No doubt will go to Madrid and win again. It just didn’t work here with the gutless players and money oriented board.
He will never win a league title at a top club ever again.

The Real fans don't even want him.

And I doubt Perez wants him.

Commentator for this City-Leicester game just mentioned someone scoring against United when "they were under now former manager Mourinho".

Hasn't quite sunk in yet. Sounds odd.
