What would convince you that Ole should be made permanent manager?

Weird to see so many completely writing him off or almost not wanting him to do well. It’s like when you get people wanting us to lose or players to play badly so they are fired/sacked. Is it likely we win 80% of our games under him and he gets the permanent job in a blaze of glory? No, but I sure hope that happens. I want to see Manchester United, under any manager, with any players, succeed.

What would convince me, would be if we get the attacking football and passion back and we are heading in the right direction; i.e towards the top spot of the Prem and putting up decent attempts to win the CL. As long as I see attacking "TEAMWORK" and the players, manager and coaches as well as the board working towards our old values, then he would definitely get my permanent vote.

I'm fond of seeing United legends in the club, so something pretty small. Play nice, attacking, get some wins against *top six*, and so. Top four not demanded.

Love Ole and delighted to give him the 5 months stint but I'm very unsure about anything longer.

A Champions League win would be a great achievement, but lets be honest its a cup competition and its in the league where it matters most. I mean Roberto Di Matteo won the Champions League.

4th place (at least a proper challenge)
FA cup run
Good football
Martial, DDG new contracts

Has a lot to do with how our players respond to him I guess.

Nothing short of winning the champions league - and doing it convincingly. In effect, playing good attacking football through the stages and giving a good account of ourselves.

Anything short of that and it would be a massive gamble to have him as a permanent manager.

I think if he got us top 4 and we won the f.a cup perhaps even got past Psg, I would consider it but I'd still look at other candidates, alot depends on the type of football we play, if we start scoring for fun then haven't got much to lose,

Just wondering if there are any scenarios that would convince us fans that Ole should be given a long term contract in the summer?

If he makes top four?
Top three?
Wins the CL?
FA Cup?

Or should it be thank you but goodbye, no matter what happens?
Top four for me.

Although I am one of the few who think he will do a good job and stay on.

1). Get Alexis to mesh into the team, perhaps as striker or SS.

2). Get Pogba to enjoy his football and become a creative force for us.

3). Martial to sign a contract and play regularly. DDG to also sign contract.

4). If he greatly increases the number of chances created.

5). Set up the midfield so as to both support our attack better and at the same time shield the defense, which they haven’t done all season.

I'd think i'd be convinced if he can get us playing as well as the top 4 despite (in my opinion) having worse players to pick from.

I'm not expecting much.

Didn’t Di Matteo win the CL with Chelsea as caretaker boss leading to him getting the job full time. If I remember correctly he was sacked pretty quickly into the next season?

1. Getting us to the finals of CL.
2. Our players playing with some sort of rhythm.

This is a tricky one to call. Top 4 would, for me be seen as a success, seeing that we're 11 points away from that. It would be quite an achievement for Ole, and I would be very grateful for a job well done by him.

But that alone would not warrant a long-term stay in my book. However, if on top of that Ole manages to somehow get us at least to the CL semi finals, I'd be more than happy for him to stick around.

I think that you can have some luck on your side (injury-free with injury-ridden top four aspirants, a favourable draw, gifts from a Kari R' Us, and so on) and find some measure of success in either of those competitions. But that sort of luck rarely manifests itself in both competitions in a single season. So if Ole does hit those targets, I'd happily look forward to him staying on. It would be a testament of his real-dealness. I don't much care about the FA Cup, to be honest.

Having said that, if the football is seriously tasty I could see myself not minding him (only just) failing to hit one of those KPIs I mentioned above. Fast, fluid football would be an unexpected treat, and might be a promise of greater things to come. Maybe I'd find myself cheering hard for him to be our permanent manager, especially if Poch (Spice?) is charmed by the idea of getting called crap by the crowd at the Bernabeu by then. Maybe. I did say was tricky to call. Truth be told, I don't know how I would feel about him being our permanent manager then.

Edit: I think I can put a number on it. If Ole manages to lose only 13 points in the second half of the season, I think that would convince me that he should stay. That would be 5 points less than the second half of Mourinho's self-described "miracle" season, and 2 points less than the first half of that same season. Anything less would be almost a champion's second-half-of-the-season form (City lost 12 points in that same period).

Don't understand some posters writing him off before he even managed a game for us.

The Champions League.

We need a long term plan and footballing structure. Ole is nothing more than an interim. If he's to stay, it'd take something absolutely extraordinary (the Premiership is a pipe dream) to consider him a long term option.

Top 4
Playing good/win against psg
Playing good attractive, aggressive, attacking fotball. Getting our players back in form/getting them to actually want to play for him.

Looking like a title winning side again. Finishing top four, or damn close, and beating PSG.

Start off by sorting this messs of a squad and get them playing like a team.

Then play some attacking entertaining football.

After that hire him on a 2 year contract and see how it goes.

Personally I'm 100% convinced that Poch is the guy.

But as for Ole? I don't think it's a matter of X amount of points wins him the job. If he comes in and we start producing a dynamic product on the field and Jose's poisonous culture is driven out of the club? Ole will make a strong case for himself

When i get the feeling that it's going to be a easy ride against 14/20 teams in PL. I want us to dominate games not involving top 6.

So true as far as people on here know he could do amazing.
Isn't that the entire point of the thread?

I think some of you are getting confused. I said nothing because no matter how amazingly he does (and he might) it would still be a huge gamble to then turn down more qualified candidates based on a few months form.

Rephrase this question to if Ole does well but Poch wants to come who do we go for and far more in here would go with Poch...

I would say it pretty much comes down to the players - if we show huge improvements in mentality and results, followed by the majority of the players wanting him to stay - he should be in the running.

Yes but if Ole does really well - and we replace him with someone else, the fans will turn on the board and fans amazingly Quick - claiming we should have kept OGS. So it's a bit of gamble if they already have more or less decided to replace him in the summer regardless. And Another problem with Pochettino is that it will probably spell the end of Carrick and McKenna - which would be bad for the club.

Agreed but they've dug themselves a hole in that regard either way. Fans moan no matter what i doubt the board care

I like Solskjaer and am against the majority on here, although I think Poch is a class manager, I want Jardim and have done so for some time.
Although it will cause a massive debate of Solskjaer vs Poch if Ole does well and if Poch wants the job.

Would you want Poch if Ole does magnificently by the end of the season?

I would not judge him on results alone although obviously its important.

Chelsea gave Di Matteo the job after he fluked the UCL but he was obviously quite shit. It needs to be so much more than results, he needs to perform well in lots of areas but an attractive style of play and attacking football would go a long way.

Like Fergie in his first few years, the results weren't always there but the powers that be could see him excelling at his job overall, and expecting the results to come. It's gonna take a lot of effort to turn this ship around.

If he manages to implement a cohesive style of play, organises us both in attack and defence and we have a definite plan in place for the future then that's enough for me right now. If he can keep a core of players to form a spine and get the best out of certain players then all the better.

He's got all the good will in the world and this season is a write off. I'm just worried that Woodward basically has free reign to do shit signings because we've got an interim manager.

Sadly these days the powers that be are normally more concerned about immediate results than someone gradually excelling in their job.

  • Play good football
  • Make the semi final or final of the Champions League
  • Gets top four
  • Deep FA Cup run
Then I'd consider him for sure as permanent manager.

He’ll have to win the champions league and the Europa league this season for me to even consider wanting him full time
