Like others have said, a loan to a Championship or lower level Prem club would be the best thing for him. We have a glut of midfielders at the club at the moment, which contributes to him getting limited game time.

Playing week in week out will do wonders for the lad, while United can see if he is good enough for us. Personally, I see his role as a defensive midfielder - he has the frame to protect the defence aerially, while there are signs he is a good passer, the position also does not expose what appears to be limited dribbling skills and pace

PS - Think some of the comments by some in the Red Cafe are very harsh, considering this is an academy player who is attempting to break into the 1st team. Not surprising given the high proportion of drippers and moaners on here

I've just seen nothing he offers. All the praise he gets... I've just seen it all before with Gibson, Cleverly and other youth products. People over exaggerate even the basics if they are a youth player.

Anyway I hope I'm wrong but doubt he has a future. I just don't see much. Maybe I can't see what the rest see in training.

He has the attitude the manager wants. Fletcher was also bullied by fans for years, but he proved many wrong. Hopefully this will be the case with Scott as well. Glad to see youngsters getting playing time!
If he becomes half as good as Fletcher I'll be over the moon. Like I said, I am not abusing the kid but I just don't see the quality. I will say I thought Fletcher was really good since pretty much the beginning but I was younger back then and backed up all of our youth players (I thought Chris Eagles was gonna be part of our future attack for the next 10 years...)

Fergie highly rates him and he knows a good youth player when he sees one

Didn't know that and it's good to hear. Like I said, I'm just a fan not a professional but from my end I don't see anything special. I'd love to be wrong.
I was going off this

It may not work out for McTom and if I'm being balanced, he hasn't burst onto the scence like other youngsters

I'd be happy if he turns out to be a useful squad player like Evans or O'Shea. A loan would be best asap as I do see him stagnating otherwise

Too many average academy products along with Mourinho's mediocre favorite players and Mourinho himself are what's killing this club. Mctominay, Lingard, Rashford, Young, Fellaini, Matic, Lukaku, Mourinho, that's 8 members of the 1st team that are not good enough for a club of our level; maybe Rshford can be a good option to have but the rest are just junk. In an ideal world, Mctominay and Lingard would be playing for a championship club or at best for an average PL club, but here we're they are key players in a club with aspirations of winning the CL, haaa.

If Mctominay's agent was crazy enough to offer him to a club like Madrid, I think Perez will call police for scammer attempt.

Isn't this too much, directing such harsh words to one of our own? And an academy player to boot...
McTominay is still young. But he has the potential of Darren Fletcher and Park Ji Sung. His future is bright ahead.

You cant really love football do you?
I love football with passion, but would you still love your soup if you found a piece of hair in it? That's what Mourinho and those players are doing to my passion. I watch football to see players like Messi showing their skills with the ball, I watch football to see talented academy product like Perreira, Pogab get their chance; I watch Manchester United for good and attacking football; I watch football for the beautiful side of the game. That's the reason why Greece NT, Inter Milan under Mourinho, Chelsea winning the CL and France NT winning the WC don't stand right for me.

McTominay and Lingard along with many other players I quoted are the prime example of what's wrong at this club right now. Even the Great SAF would have never promoted a player like Mctominay, this is just unreal especially when you look at it from a neutral opinion. How can such a limited player keeps players Perreira and Pogba out of the team? A team of 11 Mctominay would struggle to win a game in League1, but here we're he's a manager favorites at the best British club. I'm tired with Mourinho.

He's terrible.Sorry. I dont suffer from sentiment.Academy,Ethiopia,Gambia,Paraguay.....couldn't care less where you're from all I care about is whether you're good enough for MUFC s first team squad.

Scott wouldn't make Fulhams bench.

I wonder whose place he'd have taken last night if not for the injury. Would Fred have been left out yet again?

As mad as it is, I don’t think he’s even good enough for that. Shows how mental Jose making him a first team squad member really was.
Agreed.
I honestly believe Scott was like a weird bullying project for Jose. He was using him to make an example of under-performing players and to send a message to the board. This sounds extreme, but the equivalent of: - "if this retard is playing, how bad are my options?"

What manager proclaims Scott as POTS, given his input? Someone who is trying to make a point to someone else. IE - You were all so awful that my POTS is this nobody who played a total of, what, 200mins over the season, and did feck all.

Its rather disturbing to be honest.

No doubt in my mind Mourinho was using Mctominay to make some sort of point to the board and to the other players, especially Pogba.

He's shown absolutely nothing in his time at youth level and in the senior team appearances he's made to suggest he's anywhere near the level required.

I don't blame Mctominay, it's not his fault. He was just doing the best that he could do.

I like him. He could be as influential as fletch if the stars align. Great attitude.

This. He's no better than Blackett and McNair. They did show more quality than McTominay has though.

Talk about underrating Fletcher! He always had the talent and so much dynamic. We can't really say Scott is that talented or even dynamic, he hasn't shown it.

Hopefully McTominay gets a loan move in January, he needs to be playing a lot more games.

I swear half this board never actually saw Fletcher play. Back in 2008-2010 he was an absolute fiend in our midfield. Arguably one of the best destroyers in the world at the time. There's a reason a lot of people still wonder if we'd won in Rome if Fletcher hadn't been wrongfully sent off against Arsenal.

McTominay will never ever reach that level. Hell, Fletcher now is probably still better than McTominay will ever be.

We lost all hope against Barcelona the moment we saw that dreadful sent-off of Fletcher in the Semi-Final... I desperately hoped I was wrong. Turned out I was not...

Fergie highly rates him and he knows a good youth player when he sees one
"Jones, arguably the way he is looking, could be our best ever player. I think Jones may be one of the best players we have ever had, not matter where we play him. At 21 years of age, he is going to be a phenomenal player. I think he can play anywhere on the pitch," Fergie said after United clinched their latest league title in 2013.

He also had massive praise for Evans and compared Daron Gibson to Scholes once. Lets also not forget he let Pique leave the club, probably because we had Evans. He also persisted with his talentless son Daren and gave him just enough games to earn a premier league medal when many supporters didn't think he was good enough. Fergie probably rates McTominay because he's Scottish.

A bit harsh. He did have some good games last season.

This season it's felt like Mourinho was using him to make a point though.
