If Rashford is injured I'd like to see Martial, Lingard and Sanchez as the front 3 with Chong on the bench.

My big concern is Rashford wont be fit, he'll be a huge miss to our attackking play. If he's fit then I expect the same starting 11 as against Cardiff with hopefully Sanchez fit enough for the bench, the heavy rotation should come vs Reading.

This will be Solskjaer's biggest test so far, trying to break down the Rafabus and not getting caught on the counter.

They are pretty terrible at home, lost 7 out of 10 at St. James' Park. Only Huddersfield has a worse home record.

We should win but the defence is a worry even against Newcastle.

    Another win.
    Same team as today.
Lukaku in for rashers if he is out. Hopefully not he has been brilliant last few games

Rondon will eat Lindelöf alive. At least Bailly won’t be there.

    DDG

    Young Lindelof Jones Shaw

    Herrera Matic Pogba

    Lingard Rashford Martial

Although I think there’s a chance Lingard might drop out with Alexis or Lukaku coming in
Hopefully Lingard keeps his place. So many slag him off on here but they don’t seem to realise the space he creates with his runs.

Out of a possible 270 mins, they following players have played:

    Lingard - 270 Mins
    Rashford - 238 Mins
    Shaw - 270 Mins
    Pogba - 270 Mins
    Lindelof - 270 Mins
    Matic - 267 Mins

It would be nice to play our strongest team again and rest the above players against Reading, but fear we may be overdoing it with some if we continue to play them.

With the intensity we've been playing at, I wouldn't want any one to pull anything.

Rashford came off yesterday with a slight groin strain. Hopefully not too serious, but can't imagine he'll start on Wednesday.

    Maybe something like:

    Martial Lukaku Mata
    Pogba Fellaini Herrera
    Young Jones Lindelof Dalot
    De Gea

I think this will be a step up on what we have faced so far under Ole.

I think he was right in post match comments to focus in on the next challenge of getting a clean sheet. This could be a harder nut to crack than any other as we still look so vulnerable at the back but we are not going to keep banging in 3 or 4 goals a game , the defense is going to have to step up at some stage and win us a game.

Absolutely hate Newcastle. Hope they get relegated soon. To them every game against United is a cup final. They will step up against us and bend over for other teams.

If Rashford is out then I'd hope Sanchez can start in his place in the otherwise same team; if that's not possible then Lukaku.

Matic and maybe the fullbacks would be my concerns in terms of fatigue, but I'm not sure we have many options for them. Herrera hopefully will be well rested

Do we have any CB for the bench? Maybe we’ll see someone from academy being named in the squad..

We need to rest Matic so let Pogba earn his keeps as a defensive midfielder this game, as this is what the team needs him to do this game. He can do it if he wants, maybe Solskjaer is the one to get it out of him.

I'm up in the North East and if I survive New Years Eve i'm going to this, and to be honest i'm more concerned about getting the last no.47 bus back into deepest darkest Gateshead after the match and keeping my gob shut, than the match itself.

    Comfortable 0-2 or 1-3 win.

Newcastle will be parking the bus, need to press high. If Rashford's out and Matic needs a rest..

    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelöf Jones Shaw
    Herrera
    Fred Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku Martial
Only keep Lukaku, Sanchez, Fred and Dalot for the Reading game to build up their fitness ahead of Tottenham.

Newcastle goal difference -12, I think we should be looking to decrease that, substantially :D
Sorry mate, couldn't control my need to fix this.

I'm quite surprised with any hesitation about the match. This team is just getting started. And even under the last manager, this squad has shown some resilience when needed - that second half away to City last season comes to mind. If they're in the mood, they can go on a real run during the rest of the season.

Any chance of having Sanchez back for this one? Or maybe he'll start at Reading.

Isn't it nice knowing that we have a game against a team like Newcastle and expecting that we will at least try to kick their teeth in rather than expecting to go 1-0 before losing interest for the rest of the game and conceding a sloppy late goal.

He's been training for a few days now. So I'm hoping he starts in place of Rashford if he's injured. I don't have much trust in Lukaku at the moment.

Actually expecting a difficult game and no goal-fest this time.

    -----------------Matic------------------
    --------Herrera---------Pogba----------
    Lingard--------Rashford----------Martial

SUBS - Lukaku (Lingard), Sanchez (Martial), Fred (Matic).

    Newcastle 1 - 2 Man United
    Rashford and Lukaku for us.

Some of these players must be tired...

    De Gea
    Valencia Lindelöf Jones Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Sanchez Lukaku Martial

Then again, surely Mata starts soon?

Mata Lukaku Sanchez as a front 3 would be nice to freshen things up. Can always bring on the others in the second half if its not going to plan. It's all about fresh legs in this game for me.

Newcastle are atrocious we should be winning this but they’ll play defensive so we may have to be patient.

    De Gea

    Young, Lindelof, Smalling*, Shaw

    Herrera, Matic**, Pogba

    Mata
    Rashford, Martial

    * if fit. I'd select Jones otherwise

** if he is not too fatigued, otherwise I'd select Perreira

I think this will be tough.

They always seem to raise their game against us up there, so If we win it'll be tight

Rashford looked shot against Bournemouth and Lingard has played 90minutes in three games now. I think one of them will be dropped for this game. I'd say rest both, but I don't think Sanchez will be ready, and I don't think a Martial-Lukaku-Mata trio will be effective at pressing. I think Lingard will start again.

    De gea
    Young, Lindelof, Jones, Shaw
    Herrera, Matic, Pogba
    Lingard, Lukaku, Martial.

Maybe Dalot for Shaw if the latter is not fit.
