08/09 definitely was IMO. They only finished four points of us in the end.

We were in danger of losing to them when the momentum was with them and we were fecking it up for a bit defensively after we finally conceded to Blackburn and broke the clean sheet run. They should by rights have had a massive lead on us when we came back from Japan but they screwed that up and then Macheda plus Arshavin ruined them.

For a brief while though, they were favourites for that title.
They were, and it was. Macheda 'incident' ruined them. Meltdown levels reached Crystanbul type of temperature. They are so fascinating. I just stumbled over that rant from Rafa about facts and people wonder why or who inspired that. Bitter Liverpool fans influenced him to do that, thats who. Look, we are at the top right now, so lets stop for a minute and instead focus on our rivals for a bit, make excuses and get bitter about them winning, surely that will get the team inspired enough, and not inspire Man Utd at all.
They could and probably should have won the league that season, just as they should have before the slip and game against Palace. Their problem is they get too carried away and emotional, they jump the gun and get too cocky when they shouldn't and they get too depressed and desperate when they should be calm and patient.

You can see it on all levels from the rant, to Gerrards desperate long shots against Palace, to the confused fans applauding Karius while crying of their own perceived loyalty by applauding a terrible goalkeeper for ruining a CL-trophy.

Klopp's excuses about offside goals, snow, wind, refs etc. is good signs and might be just him being a dick, but I think it is just a question of time before Liverpool mentality can flip him into full mental mode soon enough. Spoke about this earlier. If Klopp manages to change the mentality of Liverpool they will be a force, but if it is the other way around then we will be in for a lot of fun.

Heres to hoping history repeats itself.

No way in hell are Matip or Lovren better than Carragher or Hyypia.
I'd say this season's Gomez is better than them and I'd also say that Salah is a #9 now and Torres wouldn't work well with him, incredible as Torres was, and therefore you're better off keeping the fluid front 3 they have right now who complement each other so well.
Gomez has had one decent season, he is no where near the top level that Carragher and Hyypia reached.

Definitely not but we are not talking about peak Carragher and Hyypia here, both on a downcurve particularly Hyypia who went to Bayer after making just 16 apps in the league that year. Skrtel played more.
My mistake, but Carragher was still better than Gomez. A lot of this Liverpool team are playing better than their actual level, due to Klopp’s management/tactics. Just like most of the Leicester players were not as good as they player in the season when they won the title.

From what I remember of that season, our form between that Macheda goal and the end of the season was pretty good. United picked up after that though and their form was as good if not slightly better than ours at the back end of 08/09. We drew too many games at home earlier in the 08/09 season which ended up costing us.

The Macheda goal didn't cause a meltdown at all. It galvanized United but it didn't ruin Liverpool's form/results.

 page 39 and 45/46 are absolute gold
All that outrage at the 5 mins added, then Macheda scores just a minute or two later making their conspiratorial anger redundant.

Your man Disintegration a Cafe wum?

“You look at their team, and it's impossible to see them finishing in the top 5 without officials on their side - I haven't seen them all, of course, but I'm not convinced they'd be in the top half of the table this season without the refs as they are. I'd have to examine footage of various games to get some sort of idea.”

The 08/09 team is superior.

Alisson > Reina
Arbeloa > TAA
Carragher > Gomez
Van Dijk > Hyypia
Aurelio > Robertson
Alonso > Fabinho
Mascherano > Wijnaldum
Gerrard > Milner
Salah > Kuyt
Firmino > Benayoun
Torres > Mane
Very different teams, with very different managers, philosophies, priorities etc, so hard to compare personnel, but here’s my crack:

Alisson < Reina (Reina was more accomplished imo)
Arbeloa < TAA (Arbeloa was pure garbage going fwd)
Carragher > Gomez
Van Dijk > Hyypia
Aurelio < Robertson (Robertson seems much better)
Alonso > Fabinho
Mascherano > Wijnaldum
Gerrard > Milner
Salah > Kuyt
Firmino > Benayoun
Torres > Mane

I'm not gay, but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Rafa Benitez. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him cranking out a paella valenciana, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body. I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Rafa. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing. One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin. Then he'll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.

Yep, definately not gay.
And to think Rafa would live with him in log cabin in the woods... I believe Rafa will deny himself of that..
What a wonderfull fantasy world he lives in.

Sorry, gotta go, Ole is waiting for me in a log cabin...

As a foreigner I feel lucky I somehow chose United for my team... imagine having to look at the redmen TV and having to listen to that disgusting accent. We've got some absolutely disgusting accents in swedish as well, but scouse trumps them all

I can't believe it
I know this is a common phrase but the timing and the tone of the way it was said, albeit on an internet forum, makes me 100% certain this the guy with the twin necks from the crystanbul gif.

Imagine having to write erotic fan fiction about Rafa Benitez. Their obsession with him truly makes me shudder.

From here to there
And calling 01/02 and 08/09 title challenges is quite the stretch IMO.
Pretty sure that in the 01/02 season they were out of the title race before we were. They only went second after Arsenal secured the title.

They were not title contenders at all that season.

Wtf is with this high rating of this new keeper. He's done nothing but look dodgy as hell (beyond mostly run of the mill performances).

I see the rawk meltdown thing is back. Manchester has regained its voice it seems but it never lost its snarl
I've a strong feeling that Ole will be given a permanent contract; and it will be announced either before the game with PSG or the one against us.
I said this a couple of pages back and I really hope they do so we can burst the Oleh bubble in their own back yard
Looking more and more that Ole is getting the job with his latest comments.

Ole with manager of the month, and Rashford with player of the month. How can he not become permanent?

:lol: You know, I had actually forgotten how common the comments about Fergie running the league were - some proper conspiracy shit there
And the amount of those idiots calling the greatest ever manager “average” & “relying only on Ronaldo”....

Does my head in that some people could literally be that blinded by hatred.

Me too. I remembered after seeing a few comments about the 'facts' rant. They truly believe this deep in their hearts still to this day, and it will soon come spilling out in one way or another. Those bottled up frustrations has taken it's toll. The jokes I'm fine with, but their anger is just plain weird.

Yeah it's pretty unbelievable. On the other hand, I'm quite surprised at the amount of posters praising Macheda's goal!

Cooking paella and presumably serving it to him? Even in their wildest fantasy they can't help casting him in the role of a fat Spanish waiter.

Pretty sure I saw a bottle of Rafa's armpit juice from the 05 CL final in their online shop. Sold out it said. Not sure if it was meant for lube purposes or just a whiff down memory lane but sadly everything points to it being the former.

They must use it as wine to baptize their newborns into the religion of Anfield. The bread of course must be the chunk of Ivanovic that Suarez bit off.
