If he was so sought after then how come Spurs were able to sign him for just £12m?
At the time, Spurs weren't really viewed as a serious competitor by the big clubs. Eriksen was 21, and had only done it in the Eredivisie. Players who come from there are notoriously hit and miss, and I'm guessing the big clubs eyeing him were happy to let Spurs have him, because it would give them an opportunity to see how he'd fare against better opposition in a stronger league. They probably reckoned it'd be easy enough to nick him off you lot if he turned out to be great.

Eriksen was chased by Man City but he chose Spurs over City for obvious reasons, he walked into the Spurs starting 11. He would of been sat on the bench behind Silva at City, sure he got paid less but he became a first team regular rather than warming the subs bench.

This was, and to some degree still is our main advantage over some other clubs when it comes to signing talented players, also the main reason we got Bale ahead of you guys.

You got a young bale when we had prime giggs on the wing. You failed to keep bale when madrid comes knocking.

If united has a crystal ball we would really go all out for bale and give him the game time knowing he'll come good then it will be a different story

Yes that's my point. Spurs was a perfect stepping stone for talented players which is why we could attract players like Modric and Bale. This helped us, and now I would say we are no longer a stepping stone although we could still lose players to Barca/Madrid etc. Having a clear pathway or promise of first team football is an important factor to sign talented players, and we do to some degree still have that since Poch does trust young players. I think young talented players would think twice when they sign for Chelsea/City when they see the playing time Hudson-Odoi is getting and Sancho got. With United I would say the same under Mourinho, but with Ole things might change although there are players on the bench such as Sanchez, Lukaku and Mata to get ahead of if you're an attacking player.

At the time the issue for signing Bale was not Giggs it was Evra. And Spurs hammered out the deal before United could really move.

Both managers operates in a different set of system.

Poch hasnt had the luxury of buying ready made player so far. It's yet to be seen if he can handle that aspect of the game. Just as ole hasnt really been tested in identifying players to purchase. I believe that buying youth and ready made player are 2 different sets of skills. Although I'm not saying poch cant do so it still remains to be seen

Completely agree. Could Poch have done what Pep has done? Could Pep have done what Poch has done? Both have done fantastic considering the circumstances, but they have done very different jobs.

When it comes to buying players Pochettino is very strict on identifying the right personality and mentality. How this would translate to clubs giving him free reign to sign what he wants with higher expectations remains to be seen. Having said that we are currently 5 points behind the league leaders with a game in hand on City. I find it hard to believe that the results would be much worse if he was given 300 million and a competitive wage budget.

The hype around Eriksen at Ajax was pretty huge. Very disingenuous to deny this.

I also find it hard to believe that the results would be any different than his current achivement with spurs. It doesnt mean that if he reaches 3rd with tottenham he'll suddenly finished 1st with united and 300m transfer

If he manages united tomorrow. Given 300m. He'd probably blown that money on kane and another one of hotspur player. Basically another version of spurs, which isnt too shabby.

i have to say for the kind of squad Spurs relative to the rest of the PL have i find the football they play to be quite functional and average. It isn't champagne football by any stretch of the imagination.

They have only scored 2 goals more than us in the PL this season.

Last season they only scored 6 more.

So, as I said, when Spurs signed Eriksen he was not seen as "one of the biggest talents in Europe" … otherwise we could not have signed him for just £12m. Instead, at the age of 21, he was seen as talented young prospect.

This also means that, again contrary to the claims made, Eriksen is yet another player who has improved under Pochettino, who arrived at Spurs only a year later than Eriksen.

He has cracked. The scrutiny on him if he was to become United manager would be far greater. He’s not worth £50m and a long summer dealing with Daniel Levy for him.

I've been big on him but that game was a bit of a worry, they were pathetic, shit results can happen but the performance was horrible, at 1-1 you'd expect them to be pounding the goal trying to win a title potentially but it was Burnley who looked more likely and indeed got the goal. Also made a fool of himself at full time.

Still not entirely convinced of Ole but another big win tomorrow and it's hard to say no.

"Passion" according to the studio. Always the same for their favoured managers

If he did that as our manager, it would be on the front pages for two days, the back pages for 7, and smalling would get suspended.

That is not someone who could handle the pressure here.

Dean gave a corner that led to a Burnley goal on the 83rd minute.
It was the first goal in the 55th minute or something, actually. And it was the linesman that gave it so it was a bit of a weird one to have a go at Dean for it.

Maybe he should change his stance on VAR and force a challenge system through if he's so frustrated with wrong calls? Because as I recall, he's strongly against VAR.

Waiting for someone in this thread to explain how the managers tactics were not good enough to prevent this goal, as they would have if the same happened to Man United under Ole.

On that note: With a win today we are 6 points off Tottenham. Completely possible to aim for third with a victory tomorrow.

Oh yeah, the old "the ref was not the reason [team x] lost" argument when someone moans about a poor refereeing decision/performance

To be fair, he can't show his true frustrations with his team of worms who once again let him down, so having it out with the hardest ref on the planet was quite brave of him. Deany would KILL him.
