Star Wars Mockney sounds much better than the recent films.

Haven't seen Cold War or The Wife yet but predictions so far for the main nominations...

Best Picture: A Star is Born (Maybe should be Roma but can't see them giving it to a non Cinema released movie)
Best Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Best Actor: Christian Bale
Best Actress: Olivia Colman
Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali
Best Supporting Actress: Regina King

How dafaq did Black Panther win a Bafta for best Special Effects. The CGI was terrible, one of the worst things about the movie.

More pc bs, funny thing is from the people collecting the award not a single black person seemed to be on the special effects team

Matt Dillon,Lars Von Trier,The House That Jack Built weren't nominated in any category in the Oscars or Baftas this year. feck this shit.

I guess I just have to be content with the fact that Lanthimos' The Favourite, enjoyably well acted yet arguably his most tamest film for sometime,is getting a good amount of coverage.

Roma has won the best film.

I found Black Panther terribly bland and lacking in character, especially from its lead, which I found surprising considering the hype and the fact that Cooglers' impressive ability in shaping seamless aspiring emotional elements in his films.
Could've been more a noteworthy film if it took more risks while dealing with the social commentary aspects with more belief rather than tip-toeing around certain issues within society.
But I suppose people dont want to be lectured during a MARVEL film, which is fair enough.

The soundtrack was the best element of Cooglers' film.

The score was great too. Ludwig is great at his work. First heard of him when he was working with Childish Gambino.

The Favourite is the stand out Best Picture nominee for me. Colman and Weisz would be worthy winners too. Pawlikowski for director and Lukasz Zal for cinematography. Best Actor is a terrible lineup and don't think any deserve it. Sam Elliott or Richard E. Grant (even though I haven't seen his film, who wouldn't want to hear his acceptance speech) would be satisfying for best supporting.

Also, seeing as they've nominated Foreign Language films in the BP category now, it makes the appearance Bohemian Rhapsody, Vice etc. particularly galling, when Shoplifters and Cold War are both nominated in the former.

The presence of foreign films at the Oscars have always been such a clusterfeck, might as well be strictly American ones only. One film per country is such a worthless way of picking films and there's usually only one token film that gets other nominations (Roma this time).

When they expanded the Best Picture category a few years ago it seemed like they'd be throwing the net a little wider, but instead they've scraped the barrel of American cinema and usually elected to nominate less than ten.

I don't think any audience is more resistant to foreign language films than America though.

Terrible decision. This is the time in the sun for a lot of professionals who usually do not major recognition. If they want to cut the Oscars run time they can cut out some of the gags they have do in recent years like the pizzas, the giant group selfie, the tour group Kimmel taking a bunch of actors to interrupt people who are watching a movie.

Better idea, cut the commercial breaks and show all the awards. Cut the fluff too, as mentioned above. The show is overlong because of the non award stuff.

They've backtracked on the having the awards during the commercial break, somewhat unsurprisingly. Crazy that they thought they could do that without pushback.

So twice in this cycle they have done this. They also backtracked on the best popular movie award.

I watched the live action short nominees. Marguerite and Madre were ok. Skin was completely terrible(and it seems they have already made a full length version of the film) and there was Detainment which is based on the James Bulger murder.

It's strange how it keeps winning awards despite being mocked here for being terrible
It had a lot of hype among the vacuous Hollywood crowd this past two weeks

But it is very weird in the metoo era the persistent allegations against its Director get ignored

Spike Lee, Period End of Sentence, Hannah Beachler and Regina King winning is great but, overall this has been the worst Oscars I can remember when it comes to winners.

Well that's silly. Bale really should have won
