I have personally spoken about, even made threads on I think, the likes of Jack Colback, Tom Carroll and Sam Clucas in the past, and none of them have amounted to feck all (cheers guys). Anyway, Longstaff is the latest composed young English central midfielder to have impressed me lately. He’s come into the Newcastle side and added real quality. I think England will be trying to change the profile of their central midfielders from the Henderson’s and Delph’s of this world.

He could be the (latest) one to keep an eye on.

He is not a big 'name' yet and it is still early days, but I like what I have seen from Sean Longstaff.

I mentioned him earlier in 'The Search for a Midfielder' thread.

I have been impressed with him since his first team debut v Liverpool in December. He seems assured on the ball, with good vision and technical ability.

Think luck has a lot to do with these things tbh. Right place, right time, right transfer, right injury to a teammate etc. Longstaff could easily fall off, but there are probably a few who have had good careers in the past who could have just as easily ended up like those names.
