He was a bag of nerves, to be expected.
I actually don't think he was. He was so surprisingly cool. He was played in midfield and wanted to get on the ball and make things happen. Gave the ball away afew times in central areas but he's a winger that was played out of position due to circumstances.

I was surprised with how confident he was though.

Crazy stage to come in on and he seemed relatively calm throughout and did a terrific job defensively. I'm sure he'll remember it. Crazy seeing bits of play where we have Mctominay, Chong and Greenwood all around the ball:lol:
Now go back a few months ago with Mourinho and his shit. What a change.
Best part was he was instructing senior players what to do and where to cover.

Said it in other thread, this is such a huge change from Jose who didn't trust players, now we have manager who trusts everyone including academy kids. Jose didn't bring anyone one when Chong was on bench and 1-0 down, ole brought on Chong and Greenwood when we needed a goal.

can be due to lack of experience but I think he was awful, all he did was run at top speed and kick the ball too far only to lose it. The main issue with him is that he is not really skilled, he takes most of the defenders by sprinting but at this level that's not nearly enough and today it showed.

He lost the ball a lot of times, and specially at the final minutes when we should had retained the ball and he lost it quite quickly.

Anyway I can't blame him I was shitting my pants at home cant even imagine

Still not sure why he gets on ahead of likes of Gomes and Greenwood?

I would prioritise their development first as Chong looks more raw to me at this stage.

I think that was a bit of the point with bringing him on. The others were too tired to put pressure on PSG and they would have passed around the ball until the final whistle, but with him United got fresh quick legs.

Greenwood has only just come back from injury. Chong played out of position as a midfielder ahead of Gomes in Gomes's best position. Maybe Ole and McKenna rate him higher or Chong has been more impressive in the games in training?

I enjoyed watching the kids celebrate at the end with the other senior members of the squad. Very pleased for Chong, I hope he gets many more chances.

Made some mistakes but I love this lads confidence. This lad is ahead of the others cause he's fearless and we seen that on the tour too.

Great to see Chong getting a bigger chance to get involved! Looked great, wanting the ball, not hiding, and making a good contribution with his energy covering in the dying minutes.. which seemed to last forever. He will obviously be more comfortable on the ball once he gets more frequent chances of playing in the team.

Not a bad outing. But it wasn’t a good idea to make a pass to Veratti in 99th minute, it costed us a yellow card for Shaw and some nerves. He should have blasted the ball high and forward

Couple of mistakes but that’s to be expected given the situation.

I absolutely loved the energy he brought and the confidence he had to communicate with more senior players.

Sorry but I do not think he's ready at all. Gives the ball away constantly and also needs to bulk up.

He is the same age as Dalot for anyone saying "he's young".

Poor decisions when passing, but love that he was involved tonight. He'll learn from it and he'll be calmer in the future!

They obviously do - just saying I disagree with that assessment based on what I’ve seen of him thus far.

Not saying he’s never going to be a good player etc just think he’s more of a kick and rush player at this moment in time whereas those two are more composed in possession IMO.

Perhaps it's just me expecting / hoping to much, but come on, that was a rubbish sub performance. Understandable at that age and that stage, but he gave the ball away every time he got it.

It's definitely you expecting too much.

Good defensively, but basically turned the ball over with every touch he had.

He is almost a year younger than Dalot actually (March vs December). Also he had a horrible cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for almost a year. So in terms of development he is almost two years younger that Dalot.
And how is he supposed to ever be «ready» for the first team if he is not given the chance to improve. Part of developing players is to give them a chance even when they are not fully physically or tactically developed.

His tackle on Di Maria
Loved that. We needed that youthful enthusiasm. He was going to take that ball or break Di maria trying

We've got a great set of lads coming up through, no need to buy fancy foreign players when we've got Chong/Greenwood/Garner/Gomes

Yeah, he wasn't good. Enthusiastic but sloppy and inexperienced. Entirely understandable but still, let's not pretend otherwise.

He should go on loan to the eredivisie. Play regularly for a year or two in the first team

Those having a go at him... he had a handful of touches, most of them in his own half. They were loose, yes, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have potential. And he played a part in the move that led to the peno.

Would love to see him start a game for us, against a lower level PL team. Then we'd have a chance to look at him properly.

He is, he hasn't shown it yet for the first team, but he is.

Guys, seriously, give Chong a break. He participated in this attack of utmost importance that ended up with a penalty. It was Chong who opened himself to receive a pass from Shaw and passed it to Rashford. Rashford then passed to Dalot, then a penalty.

People, he played for a handful of minutes in the utter chaos of the end of that game. No one should be drawing conclusions either way. All Ole needed from him was to have the legs to run around, which he did.

I think he did fine, did very good defensively but was excited when he got the ball, completely understandable given the circumstances. I can see him getting plenty of minutes until the end of the season.

Yes he does need to put muscle on but not too much, not every player has to be an athletic freak like Ronaldo.

Spot on, the reason Chong and Greenwood were needed was for their pace. He did good work in defensive stage while always having the legs for a quick break. He waa sloppy, but so was the game at that point.

i liked that he immediately wanted to get on the ball. yes he made a couple of mistakes but that's to be expected. he didn't shy away from the ball in such a big game, and that was impressive in itself.

I've noticed that in the reserves. The lad seems to have good leadership skills

I have said it a few times. Chong will be exceptional but he is a left winger. Not right or anywhere in midfield where they have been trying to play him either to develop other parts of his game or because that’s where our need is. Fans been calling for him but they haven’t watched him live and I have a few times. He loses the ball a lot but will learn. He is blistering on the wing.Fred was doing same thing just a few weeks ago. Chong also needs to fill in his frame as his growth spurt affected his ball control.

I liked him pointing to our players. Good maturity. Lot of times they looked dangerous out wide but he did ok. Still very young.

I actually like that he tried to play the ball out in the final moments. A lot of players would just boot the ball away, and obviously for our nerves, that's what we wanted. But top players nulify attacks by keeping the ball. That's what he tried to do. Obviously ended up giving it away, but that's a learning curve. Pick the right pass next time.

He was understandably a mixed bag but liked the way he was pointing to where he wanted the ball. Whether his talent can keep pace with his confidence remains to be seen but plenty of players have wilted and hidden at United.
