Please tell me again why giving platform to assholes like Alex jones doesn’t help spreading hateful rhetoric against minorities.
It's not only overt nutters like Alex Jones. People like Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson are part of the problem too, helping propogate the idea that the straight, white man is hard done by, and that traditional western values are under attack from leftists and their muslim/immigrant/LGBQT/feminist allies.

And like Trump, Orban and so on, that man was voted into office. But sure, the vast majority of people holds no racist sentiments.
The worst part is that they genuinely believe that they don't.

Fraser Anning should be sacked.

What these morons can’t grasp is whilst we might have reason to fear terrorists, politicians/the media/social networks etc need to distinguish between extremists and the majority of Muslims, Christians etc. who don’t want to hurt anyone.

Those who don’t are complicit.

The idea that most of us embrace tolerance gets thrown around a lot, but I still struggle to see on what it’s based.
One things for sure, people seem to be a lot more tolerant of abhorrent behaviour and rhetoric nowadays... All gets shrugged off, and those that complain are painted as the real problem.

What a mess...

Yep. The issue is, as said before, that people don’t want to accept the fact, that some of their relatives and friends are racists. They don’t want to be impacted by it, so they just ignore the connections to their own lives. But the truth is, that racist uncle of ours is not funny or annoying, he’s highly dangerous. The truth is, that friend of ours who makes stupid jokes is not edgy or a little extreme, he’s racist. That’s hard to accept. Therefore people even go as far as to refuse the literal definition of racism as racism.
And it’s also not ok to cheer on racist celebrities. It’s not okay to own a jersey of Mo Salah. It’s not okay, to watch PewDiePie. But it’s inconvenient to do anything about it, so they just pretend that political correctness has gone mad.

What the actual feck? That's not even masquerading as sympathy. It's quite literally blaming the victims for their own deaths at the hands of a right-wing terrorist.

I don't know who this person is, but he is utter scum. If this doesn't lead to him no longer being a relevant political figure (at any level), then New Zealand has some real problems.

Let me blow your mind even more and tell you a videogame publishing company, that also publishes childeren's games for Nickelodeon, thought that was the perfect place to host an AMA: https://venturebeat.com/2019/02/26/thq-nordic-ocean-marketing/

Fyi: This place has been delisted by even Google for how extreme they are and this THQ company put a direct link to that site an entire fecking day before taking it down.

The videogame scene is ground zero for breeding these kinds of psychos and some companies are dropping all pretense and have begun to court them either explicitly or with a wink and a nudge.
Im sure there is absolutley no research that suggests this to be the case. Time and time again studdies have been made and there is no corelation between video games and making people violent or more aggressive

Yup. The victim mentality that’s been picked up by the straight while male is a very dangerous thing.

I won't pretend to understand the Aussie political system, but is he sackable? If he doesn't resign do they not just have to wait until the next election and vote him out?

Give over ffs.
Yeah, that’s what someone might think who wouldn’t get targeted and tracked via apps for LGBTQ people and tortured and killed by the police if he lived in Chechnya. Salah publicly endorsed the man behind those practices.

I'm normally quite a strong advocate for free speech but I think we've got to a stage now where things are well out of control. You've got media of all guises, politicians, people who hold positions of power spreading hate and flat out lying, sowing divisions in society and feeding into the paranoia of the mentally unstable. I don't really know where we go from here tbh but I can't see it getting better any time soon. It will just breed and spread. The human race needs a hard reset.

I can't remember why I joined this war.

"But, but, but he is anti establishment and will drain the swamp or something, something, something, it's the stupid leftist thought police fault we are doing this."

I really try not to but I can't help despising people who vote for the likes of Trump, Orban or any right wing xenophobic populist and then present some mental gymnastics why it's okay to vote these people and of course it's never because they finally have found someone who speaks out their racists views in public, of course not.:mad:

It’s like some people’s brains can’t handle the Internet. Everything is free for ridicule and they can’t separate real life from fake and lose empathy and go cold.

Kids I teach are like that. Everything that happens is a goddamn meme to them.
Welcome to the 21st century. Forget social media, we never had phones, computers during our childhood so we simply can't comprehend what children are exposed to. Everything's virtual now!

I find it strange that authorities are not trawling these sites full time looking for hints of attacks.
Why? Are you under the Impression authorities understand those sites, the internet in itself and are actually bothered about racism, xenophobia and so on?

Why not. Any recommendations?
Serious question though, how is that not highly problematic? How is it ok for someone to let one of the most horrible people on earth use his name, reputation and appeal, especially towards young people, in order to strengthen his power and continue to kill innocent people? Where does accountability start in your mind?

I understand what you're saying but I think you have a an idealised view of humanity, which is understandable of course.
Being discriminatory of any kind is learned behaviour, so by definition it can't be ignorance - if you have no experience with the people you're discriminating against you learned it from your environment in some way, either directly (friends, family) or indirectly (media) & not having strong beliefs doesn't absolve you from racism either - racism is on a scale with Nazis/KKK being at the extremist end, but if you're on the less extreme end, you're still racist.
Calling it ignorance or prejudice or dancing around the subject so they can't be deemed racist is normalising their behaviour.

You assume that interacting with the people they hold negative views of will change their mind - not always, in the case of this shooter he visited the mosque and commented on how friendly they were to him - it didn't change his opinion of them.

We have to accept just how common and frequent racism is, if we refuse to do so because it's such an emotionally charged word, we wont get anywhere.
I don't have an issue with you calling them racist, I don't care about their feelings and if you read my posts you probably realized that I don't have issues with being blunt. Now when it comes to fixing issues I do have an issue with the idea of having a one size fits all answer, I definitely make a difference between people that have prejudices because they are not all equal, the source of the prejudices and the level of conviction will affect the way I see people and how I will handle them.
Also I don't have an idealised view of humanity, I simply believe that we are different and everything needs to be dealt within its own context, that's why I said that you need to interact with people to know how to handle them. I didn't suggest that interacting with them will automatically dissolve prejudices but not interacting, not contextualising will definitely lead you nowhere.

Surely someone is looking into this? Scary if nobody is. And Stupid.
Not necessarily. In Germany, there is a branch of Intelligence called the Verfassungsschutz. It’s sole purpose is to identify threats to the constitution. The issue is, that the Verfassungsschutz seems to be full of rightwing nuts and until recently was led by Hans Georg Maaßen. That man himself has a political ideology that is definitely far right. So therefore, this whole organisation hasn’t actually fought those who are working against the constitution, instead they have actively helped the NSU prepare the murdering of mostly Muslim people. They then have done everything in their power to protect the perps and used most of their resources to fight left leaning organisations and groups.
Those organizations seemingly as good as the people working there.
And as evident through years of research, police, military and intelligence services attract mostly right leaning people. Therefore it is possible and sometimes even likely, that there is no interest in chasing these people, as they share the same ideology.
So it might be gross incompetence at times. But sometimes they even share an ideology.

Got pretty cozy with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who's a questionable individual at best.
That's just bs. He hasn't endorsed him or anything. The guy was in Chechnya for a world cup and attended his dinner. What did you want him to do? So he didn't protest against him while in that country.

And what about Putin? Is he an angel then? Last I heard all of the top players in world football were playing there churning money for his country.

Surely this is a political career ender? Is western society really so depraved that politicians can ride out such hateful rhetoric?
Not sure how things work in Australia, where he is a senator

I mean read books in general to educate yourself. What exactly did Salah do?
What makes you think I don’t? And what would you recommend, as you appear to be so well educated and must have read so much?
Mo Salah posed for pictures with Kadyrov, posted those on social media, called him his friend and actually appeared with him during the World Cup. What more do you need? Where does accountability start for you?
All this happened, while the whole world knew who Kadyrov was and what he stands for. Salah still took time out of his busy schedule to make sure, that the world knows, that he is friends with this man.
