Do we want to lose to City?

City to win the League. Spurs to win the CL, just so Liverpool fans lose their only ally in the "who cares about trophies when we play great foootball" argument. Klopp can reign as the most successful failure in Liverpool FC history. 4 years. 16 competitions. 0 wins. That's all I want from this season now. Utd's future is on hold until the transfer window opens.

You honestly wouldn't be happy to lose even a completely meaningless end of season game that would deny our biggest rivals the title? Not even if it happens in a couple of years and if Liverpool win that title, they overtake us with 21 title wins? I guess you win the "true fan" of the year award. Hooray for you.
But it’s not a meaningless dead rubber match is it? Top 4 is still up for grabs so why would anyone want us to lose just to deny Liverpool the title - and no I don’t profess to be fan of the year.

I find these discussions so pointless. Even if we put a shift we're going to lose anyway. They're miles ahead of us. They don't need us to forfeit the match.

They haven't.They actually played better football last year.
City have still played the best football in the PL this season, hands down.
Yes you’re right they were better last year but they have only lost one game this season and have been consistent hence keeping up with City.

You said "No true fan would want their team to lose under ANY circumstances" though, so I was just giving a hypothetical circumstance to test your theory.

If we had beaten Everton we would have been 4th. If that was the case then no, I would want us to win so we can stay 4th.

However, we aren’t 4th and I can’t see the others drop more points so beating City gives us nothing. We will only gift Liverpool the title

A large part of me wants City to win now, which I don't like to admit really despite the hatred for Liverpool.

But, it's more because I think if we get something against City it will be a false dawn just because of how dejected we look. It'd be just like us to draw with City, beat Chelsea, and then slip up in one of the last two games, finishing 5th and Liverpool pinching the title from City. I just know that's how it will go down so I'd rather lose to Man City and get it done with there and then - at least City should win the title that way as I think we'll finish 5th or 6th anyway.

This, if we somehow draw this game tomorrow, I'd dislike this group of players even more.
Agreed. After what we've seen the last few weeks I'll be furious if they pick tomorrow to start putting some effort in.

Talk about a no win for the players tomorrow!
Win and play well and people will moan.
Lose and they'll get tonnes of grief

But after arsenal and chelsea screwed up a win tomorrow will be huge in still getting 4th.
That's the conundrum

I can't imagine who wants to lose or draw when United is only 3 points from CL. I know you are not happy with the team, but while they are chances to go to CL we should support it.

If you win tomorrow you should end up on 73 points or more, and I think that'll be enough for top 4.

I don't think 73 will be. But if we beat city im sure we'll beat chelsea and the last two are a given.

Still. Top 4 really is no boast and it almost makes more of a statement to our board to stop pissing about if we fail.

Ouch - that is a hell of a record mate!

I've not been since 2011. Not paying to see the garbage that's been served up the last few years.

They deserve all the grief they can get.
Exactly, if god-forbid someone scores a last minute equalizer and celebrates like winning the CL. :nervous:

However, I'm confident that our team has this handled, they'll lose 3-0 or more.

I want to lose to city.

A win doesn't guarantee top-4 spot.
A win does (essentially) guarantee Liverpool the title, which puts them only one behind us. I couldn't deal with Fergie having to see them back on their perch!
I know a lot more fucking annoying Liverpool fans than I do City fans.
A season without CL football may be good for us. Consolidate the squad, ship out the dead wood and those that don't want to be here anymore.
Next season we just concentrate on the league. We aren't going to win the CL anyway, so feck it. Rebuild.

Getting some stick for holding this opinion from my mates but I couldn't give a shit. Not qualifying for one CL isn't the end of the world.

Edit: Also, Klopp and VVD's absolutely retarded attempts at mind-games make me want to double-down on losing. feck 'em.

If I were a United fan I would want to lose to City. You could win this game and due to results in tonight's Spurs game and tomorrow's Arsenal game still be in 6th place except all you've done is hand the title to Liverpool.

Get revenge for 2010 when the shoe was on the other foot and Gerrard passed right to Drogba for a goal.

I don’t see how we finish top 4. We have the least point and worst goal difference. Unless Tottenham or Arsenal screw up big time, I really can’t see us finishing 4th. Since I cannot see top 4, losing to City and stopping Liverpool wouldn’t be bad. If we hadn’t lose to Everton, then City would solidify top 4.

If Liverpool win the league the nauseating UK media circle jerk will be absolutely unbearable.
City winning another title is completely meh. They clearly cheat and break the rules and so them winning anything doesn't register for me. Hopefully they win tomorrow and win the league too.
I'd hazard a guess that most people wanting a City win on here are UK based and who appreciate just how sickening Liverpool winning the league would be.
If a Utd player could pass it to Aguero for a last minute assist for the winning goal that would be even sweeter. Gerrard still has plenty of unpaid karma debt left outstanding.

Would be typical if we beat city give over pool the title finish in 4th place and then still miss out on champions, league football

I'm fine whatever happens. We are NOT getting Top 4 either way so I want City to get the points, but we shouldn't throw it, just be our usual shit selves.

We will probably draw, to much hilarity on RAWK.

Why would any Utd fan want to lose tomorrow, which would do the following -

1) Gift one of your fiercest rivals the title
2) Knock you out of the top 4, meaning no CL next year, and less chance of attracting big players for next season.

If anyone is being deluded in thinking you are Man Utd so you can still attract the big names regardless of CL, you need to think again. Man Utd are slowly becoming what we became in the 90's, destined for the wilderness. The past 5 years since Fergie has been a nightmare for you guys, but its not going to get any better by praying and hoping to lose a game so you don't reach the top 4.

Another season without CL is not going to fix your club, whether Liverpool win the title or not.

I’m glad the players aren’t as pessimistic as you lot about finishing top 4. There’s still loads that could happen in the remaining games. You’re all just writing the top 4 off or even worse suddenly making it out to be nothing of significance, just so you can justify wanting us to lose to City. It’s pathetic.

‘United shouldn’t care about top 4, it should care about finishing 1st’. So it’s easier to go from 6 to 1, than 4 to 1 is it? Absolute nonsense.

What else will they say in an interview? Performances on the pitch didn't really show any desire or cause for positivity for the upcoming games.

They've arguably had better transfer windows when they didn't have CL than the other way around. And no, another season without CL isn't fixing their club but I hardly doubt it will immediately be fixed if they do play CL football next season.

If it was the other way around, I wouldn't actively want us to lose since top 4 is still possible but I certainly wouldn't mind if we lost either - who cares if City wins a title again, it would still be better than United...
