I am surprised that even though it's mathematically impossible... someone has not come up with these scenarios where it is possible Utd could still get top 4. :D

"Leicester beat Chelsea, Arsenal lose last 2, Spurs lose to everton, Utd beat Cardiff and somehow the league bring a 39th game into the equation, we could still do it!"

United down, let's see if this gets settled with our game or if we keep it going until the end. :nervous:

It was always a long shot after the Jose mess.

It's not the disaster some people make out. History has shown it doesn't make that much difference in attracting players, and if we're not going to be competitive in it, is it even that great? We scored 1 goal in 5 Home games in it this season - dreadful.

It won't hurt us to rebuild now
Perhaps it doesn't, but does anyone expect that we will buy the right players? There is something very rotten about this club at the moment, from the owners to Ed to the manager to the coaching staff to the largely apathetic match-going fans.

A few seasons in Europa might expose Woodward's incompetence further perhaps. Meagre silver linings in a storm of shite.

Chelsea qualifying with a game to spare?!;)

I wish we had this standard of "quality" when we were trying to get into top 4 a decade ago. Everton aswell.

What's going to happen, top 4 is done now due to how inept Arsenal and Man. United have been last three weeks.

We could’ve still had a massive chance if we could actually beat Huddersfield, because I reckon Tottenham will lose to Everton.

Piece of piss. Never in doubt.
Fair play duffer, you're one of my favourite posters on here.

Can see Chelsea winning europa final aswell if it's Chelsea-Arsenal as Arsenal would have so much pressure going into it knowing they'd have to win to get CL so can see them freezing on the night.

Well, we've squeaked it with a game to spare. Now we can rest players against Everton with the Ajax in mind, because Arsenal are not going to swing a 8 goal GD in the last game even if we lose.

Levy's big gamble last summer has paid off, just. Now we'll have another season of CL income, which hopefully will mean a decent transfer budget for Pochettino this summer.

I'm pretty certain Arsenal will win the EL against Chelsea and everyone will be playing in CL next season bar us.

What’s going to happen?

It’s over. Chelsea and Spurs get 3rd and 4th.
Yes, I know. The point is United hopes was a pipe dream going into this weekend. All they needed to do was beat Huddersfield and hoped a string of results went their way, which they have so far, bar the Chelsea game. Problem is they couldn't even beat the leagues bottom team to keep that hope alive

Does 5th get automatic qualification to europa league group stages?

Was reading today if Man. United finish 6th and Watford win the cup (unlikely) they have to start qualifiers in July and cut short their pre season in America.

I assume Wolves have to do that if Watford don't win the cup and it goes down to 7th.

It'll be humiliating but yeah these clowns of us deserve it for the shite show they put the entire season. They deserve to sit and see all others playing in CL.

Fair play. I really think Arsenal and United should have taken advantage much more than they did, but they've just proven themselves to not be good enough.

Unfortunately for you (and Spurs) I think that Poch will still have his hands tied more than he should. You might be able to sign one player if the right one is available, but any other purchases will be at the expense of selling players IMO. Probably at least one key player at that, not including Toby. Still, I can't see you losing as many games next season even if the squad doesn't change much, so you'd probably finish top four again anyway.

Good point. The euphoria over Arsenal bottling it has overcome me.

Shit as we have been the past seven or eight weeks, it's really just a couple of individual errors which have finally cost us Top 4.

De Gea against Chelski was 2 points lost, and Shaw today against feckin-I-hate-feckin-Huddersfiel was two points lost.

Those four points would have had us above Chelski and level with Spurs in 4th place going into the last day.

Very, very frustrating.

Arsenal look inept but surely hold fire for a few weeks?

Arsenal winning a major trophy and qualifying for CL obviously better than Spurs qualifying for CL with no major trophy won.

Hope Spurs win just to end any "what could've been moments" after that Arsenal draw today.

Of course had we won against Huddersfield, the last day would've had more tension on our game and the Spurs game as a loss for Spurs and a win for us would see us on 71 points and them stuck on 70. Spurs might've buckled knowing what was a stake or maybe respond with a win or draw, we'll never know now as top 4 for Spurs is effectively secured now and there's no pressure playing Everton.

Well, who knows. Given that we made world record profits in our last published accounts, plus should get around £100m income from this season's CL all told, plus will have CL income again next season, plus will have the extra income from a full season in our new stadium … it's surely not too much to hope that Levy will loosen the purse strings a fair bit this summer.

But we shall see.

Not sure resting anyone against Everton will do anything.

Not necessarily because you're going out, but very definitely due to the final being 3 weeks after the last game!
It'll be the opposite problem - keeping players in form!

What a joke the top 4 race ended up being. Four teams bottling it all the way to the end with Spurs and Chelsea falling over the line at the end.

It was there for the taking for us and boy did we blow it

I’m not sure if this is a sign of the league being more or less competitive. The top 2 are miles and miles ahead of the rest. The fact that both are pushing 100 points in the same season indicates to me the rest of the teams just aren’t particularly good.
