That's why they can't match our wages. I'm sure I've read their wages to revenue margin is ridiculously high.
Unless we've bundled in with 500k a week I can't believe they couldn't give him a colossal increase on his Ajax wad.
But I suppose this is our main way of getting him. Hoping Barcelona are us in the Fergie end days, hoping the name of the club was enough.

I think I'd actually piss myself laughing if all these "ITK" lads were actually in the know but their "contacts" were telling them about that young Stoke kid not De Ligt. Could you imagine the meltdown if we signed him tonight?

Tell me how a 19 year old prodigy is the same as a crocked waning winger. Then tell me that you think Rooney was a bad signing because we offered more money than Newcastle for him.
Yeah nobody was saying that about Sanchez. I tried making these points and got this sort of response. Also the Rooney part is daft, he was never going to Newcastle. They were just as shit then.

I think they have offered him a lot but they can't compete with us. They're already borrowing to pay their players as it is.

Still convinced we're not signing him. Would make 0 sense in all honesty as much as I want it to happen. I will say this however, if we manage to pull it off somehow, the ball will get rolling and I wouldn't be surprised to see Sancho sign this summer too. Providing we pull this off, which we won't.

If any of them knew anything, they'd be selling their stories to the UK papers for four/five figure sums instead of blurting it on some Reddit thread full of idiots.

Well, to be fair, we're not this dilapidated ancient Rome that people keep making us out to be. We're a European giant and our name still means something. With our funds we're also only ever one good window away of winning major honours, it's convincing players like De Ligt, with cash or otherwise to buy into our project.

I'm sure he would rather go to Barcelona and play with Messi and win the La Liga next season but in 5 years time, where will Barcelona and Messi be? Where will we be? Perhaps the cash and a 5 year contract makes you evaluate your options differently. We should be competing for big trophies in a season or so and he will be aware of that.

Oh of course. I don't believe it for a second but it would be funny.

There is a slight question mark about going all in for a teenage centre back, and it's a huge ask about how quickly he can fit in.
I also wonder why we didn't go in 2 years ago, as he was very obviously the class part of the combo with Sanchez, who himself was under massive interest elsewhere....

When was the last time we beat Barca to a player?

Sancho will be interested again if we got De Ligt and others. I said in his thread that i don't think the deal is dead, he'll just be interested in seeing whip we get in first and will want to see some positivity around the club. He'll probably witness millions of Muppets going bstshit crazy if we bring in De Ligt...that should help

Can't remember the last time there was this level of hype about a centre back. Is this down to De Ligt's ability, the general lack of top centre backs, or something else?

I raised that same point re Barca also, to be fair. I'm not sure how attractive a proposition they are, especially when they're struggling for cash and need investment. I did agree with what you've said and i would be excited if we sign players like De Ligt and other top young players, just nervous at spending so much for such a young player. Not so much the fee but the wages. I just think we've got a squad with issues (ie egos) already and this may compound those issues.

If it's true that Rio is heavily involved then that gives me a lot of peace of mind. He knows his onions when it comes to defenders.

For me, he’s the best young CB in the world. He’s a million miles better than what we already have.

The sort of leader we have been crying out for years since Rio/Vidic.
