He's a whole lot of muscle and athleticism but little else. Essentially another Kyle Walker.
I don’t really see the comparison with Kyle Walker, but even if true if he’s another Kyle walker then no complaints from me.

I think 45+5m and retaining the Zaha clause is a fair deal. Can see why it took so long now. Worth it considering reports were we'd have to pay 50m up front + ?m add-ons and remove the Zaha clause. Negotiated down quite a bit. Now let's hope he's no one season wonder.

No more Young thank the lord.
....at right back!

...wouldn't be surprised to see him at RW which would probably be even worse. Id probably have him over Matic at DM, still has bags of energy, would only need to make small passes.

But fingers crossed we fill those positions with actual footballers.

If Aaron Wan-Bissaka is your big signing this summer then I fear for your immediate future. If he's part of a summer that sees you spend over £100m and bring in one of Eriksen, Tielemans, or Fernandes, then I'll be less fearful. I suppose it's a matter of whether you need to sell Pogba first, though, or whether you can afford another £50m+ player without needing to get rid of him.

That's the spirit. If all else fails, resort to refusing to feel any joy about anything, that'll lead to a positive and meaningful existence ;)
Okay?
There weren't many options really. There's Meunier who may offer more in attack but who knows if he'll fit into the PL, and there's Cancelo who won't want to go to a non-CL club. This is a proven PL player who will improve our defence vastly, which was the biggest problem of last season. He was practically the 2nd best RB in the league last season (behind TAA in my opinion), and he's got many many years ahead of him.
Perhaps. What worries me is his attacking play is not good enough. He could improve but I'm not sure he will. It's not just his crossing and passing but his composure and decision making that needs a lot of work. I can't think of a more limited position in football than a defensive right back. 50m is quite a lot even in today's market.

Great news ! Now I can rewatch his YouTube highlights videos of him knowing Young is no longer our RB

Isn't that what we've done for the past 5 years with LVG and Jose?
Yes we have, but those managers completely negated the attacking philosophy that is Man Utd. We can have an attacking philosophy and not do things what Fergie did. I fear Ole is trying so hard to be like Fergie, that he's utilizing similar tactics of getting British players mainly. Fergie went for British players back then because they were cheaper and they wouldn't jump ship if Real or Barca came calling. Also, we didn't have that much competition but these days City, Pool and Spurs are ahead of us when it comes to that.

I'm excited about this signing. I also believe he has more to offer offensively, since Palace had van Aanholt as their other fullback. van Aanholt seems more interested in attack than defending so it makes sense Wan-Bissaka was more reserved.

And this also frees up Ashley Young to become our starting winger again :wenger:

I am just happy that when I play the new fifa the first thing I wont have to do anymore is sign a RB. Getting sick and tried of that every career mode campaign. Please can we sign a RW now

So we still ended up paying £50m despite 2 months of negotiations. Whoever negotiates transfers really sucks at his job but well at least it's done.
And you know exactly how much Palace were asking for in the beginning? The £45m fee, also doesn’t mean that that’s in one go - often payments are staged. I suspect the Zaha 25% sell on clause featured heavily in negotiations.

It’s very difficult to criticise negotiations, when ultimately you (and I) know about 5% of the facts!

He's saying it's 47m, but Luckhurst insisted it's 52.
I thought it was widely reported as £52m at the time - what’s £5m between friends!

Well it remains to be seen how he can do in a more attacking set up so hopefully he'll have the opportunity to express that at United. If we get a really good RW too then his attacking play wouldn't be as vital. It's a lot of money but getting one of the best RBs in the league, or even Europe, is always going to be pricey. City have already set the precedent for expensive fullbacks with signing Walker and Mendy. Of course there are players like Robertson who are a bargain, but clearly we seem to want to get the best we can get as opposed to hoping a cheap signing will work out.

Very good signing, you're getting a brilliant young player.

Will be interesting to see whether he can truly develop into a world class player at United.

A bit of good news at last. We actually got a signing over the line, hopefully. No doubt Ed will be exhausted now and will need to go for a lie down, to a holiday. No more business that is urgent!

Yeah reality is its £50m deal with some cash deferred. Practically pointless £5m unlikely to make or break the window.

I guess the perspective some don't consider is if we started at £50m, Palace would want £60m. All the fannying around was probably to ensure we paid £50m and no more.

Well it took 3 weeks, better late than never. SO glad this means Young will not start on a regular basis. Hopefully we can wrap up a couple more by Friday? Who am i kidding.
All those games for Utd he missed during that time. Goodness knows how many training sessions he missed out on...

These things take a bit of time, and it’s had zero effect. He’s clearly a player Palace didn’t want to sell, perhaps they wanted some time and space to negotiate with other teams for his replacement?

Tbh I've reached the point where I don't care about our immediate future anymore. If we get top 4 next season then great. Just hope we play some entertaining football for a change.

As long as he's avaliable for first pre season training then who the feck cares about the 'delay'?

Think £45m is a decent deal for a young English PL proven player in the current market.

Onto the next one.

Agreed. Worst thing we can do now is rest easy because we got this done. We need to immediately start focusing on other areas because they sure as feck are going to take a while.

As long as we're not doing one deal at a time then sure, not convinced myself

Because people think it may have lost you valuable time for other signings to be made? Going by the logic that you're only occupied with one signing at a time though, which is questionable in itself of course...

Depending on now quickly he makes the no.2 spot his,I wouldn't mind seeing Dalot get some time our on the wing

We criticise Ed Woodward and the negotiating team a lot but credit where credit is due. To keep the sell on clause for Zaha and a transfer fee ultimately lower than the asking price with add ons is very good business.

If We can't negotiate two deals at a time then we might as well close the club.

Brilliant signing. Delighted with this and £50m is nothing for such a player these days.

And I didn’t even think we needed a right-back!

I suspect that is exactly what will happen. Dalot/AWB to push each other/compete for the RB spot, and then for more defensive-minded gameplans, play both down the right.
