Thankfully, Chelsea and Arsenal are not. They (along with Leicester, Wolves and possibly Everton) are likely to be our main top 4 competitors.
I’ve counted those out in my mind already. Although we’re currently not in the best place we should still be aspiring to at least get 3rd this season. We can’t allow ourselves to forget who we are despite current struggles. Yes, you can talk about being realistic but for me if you do that for too long people start to accept a much lower level.

Didn’t Spurs do something along these lines with a goal keeper to avoid another team (possibly Fulham) receiving a fare share of sell-on funds? Would be a while ago now though.
I honestly don't know It certainly doesn't seem to be something where enough precedent has been set to make it a reasonable thing to suggest though

4th is probably the realistic limit of our aspirations. That would be a pretty good achievement at this point, given how bad we've been since February.

Tottenham doing good business. Annoying.
The most annoying thing is that Spurs seem to have a plan. They know their weaknesses and buy to fix them. It's exactly how Liverpool got so far ahead of United. Meanwhile, United go years without buying a right winger, chase overrated players and spend twice as much as Spurs on wages. Just shows how important the structure above the manager is in terms of team-building.

Moutinho and James from Porto to Monaco.
Can't see anything that suggests anything dodgy about that to be honest. Monaco signed a well known talent in James and a well established player in Moutinho. Both played first team football and clearly improved Monaco as part of an ambitious project to become one of the top clubs in world football.

Nothing like Arsenal signing a random youth player for a largely inflated fee in order to circumvent a high cost for Zaha. Zaha being the only player they are actually interested in.

Even if they did pay 25 for Moutinho and 45 for James to counter some form of sell on clause, it would still be a very different situation because both were bought for the first team and were genuine purchases that were made to improve them going forward.

Waste of time. Just give Tuanzebe the chance or buy Koulibaly or Ruben Dias as either best in class or high potential. Maguire is barely worth £50m, £70m is a very generous offer. Leicester can invest in other players that will have little impact on their potential positioning/ cup runs.

Maguire is not a world class defender. He is a solid reliable, no thrills defender. That shouldn't come with a massive premium.
Agreed. He's not all that and he is slow.
There's every chance the comes to United and doesn't look up to it.

I think we will 100% get Maguire now a bid 70 mill has been lodged, the people saying why have they rejected it and we will won't get him now need to remember that is only the reported value of the offer. With the prices being so high nowadays it seems the best way to negotiate a deal is to offer close to you max but start with ridiculous terms and then it gets the selling team interested because of the fee but the negations are took up by improving the terms.

Inter seem to have done it (which has the majority on here saying accept but with higher payments no loan) and and we also done it with Bissaka, we bid 50 mill first which got rejected because it was like 49 mill if we win the Champs league but ended up getting him for 50 million when we changed it to 45 up front.

Low balls bids like Arsenals 40 for Zaha are just insulting and wouldn't even bring Palace to the table, they would delete the e-mail and go on about their day. A bid that low wouldn't even make them cave even if Zaha handed in a formal transfer request.

I just dont get it with Maguire, him being a starter for England doesn't make him 80 million pound rated defender when Stones is also a starter for England.

I just don't see a great deal of difference between 80-90 million pound rated Maguire and free agent Gary Cahill aside from age, is Maguire better than Cahill as defender? Is he better in the air then him? That much better on the ball than him? more of a threat from set pieces than him? Better organizer and leader? Is he even that much faster than him despite the age difference?

If we are going to spunk 80 million on a defender then we are better going all in for koulibaly.

Yes to pretty much every question....

Cahill was massively overrated even in his prime.

On Maguire the only upgrade I see is he'd score a couple more goals a season over Jones or Smalling. 70M+ just seems crazy.
If that's all you see then you really should get your eyes checked. I mean ffs haven't the last 5/6 years taught you anything about calamity Jones and Mike smalling?! THEY ARENT GOOD ENOUGH!!! Maguire is a clear upgrade and would easily become our best defender. I also see no issues with the fee quoted.

Not sure if already posted or if this guy has any credibility:

Oh, good, it's the guy who reported last December that Conte was replacing Mourinho.

It would be nice if there was just one reliable journalist reporting this Bruno-to-United stuff. Then maybe I'd know what the hell is actually going on.

Some of the reliable UK guys have said that Ole is definitely interested, but no talk of an actual bid yet

Still nothing in that right wing position.
I'm interested in what our playing style and formation is going to be.

Ole favoured a 4-4-2 diamond in big games but then that negates signing James and our interest in Sancho.

We have to sign a RW you'd figure.

We had/have so many areas to sort i believe one of the earliest reports that said we're leaving right wing alone for now.

Mata staying on,awb at least helping the right side plus seemingly going big at centre back seem to back that up.

We need a key starting centre mid for certain before right wing. Otherwise we're starting one of mctom perreria or fred at least. Maybe two if matic isn't on it

Alderweireld is not a commanding CB, he is in the same mould as Lindelof. I'd rather persist with our Ice Man.

The only reason we go for Maguire is that we need a ball-playing CB that is a monster in the air - basically the only one we have that can dominate aerial battles is Smalling and it's why he ends up playing in the first 11 for the majority of games.

However Maguire is too slow, not agile at all and I'm not sold on his positioning. Like others said £70 million is too much already. I'd rather go for any other young talk CB, surely there are some out there in the market.

Believe me I'm no fan of Smalling or Jones. I don't rate him above Lindleof
