In all fairness, his positivity and alacrity of spirit is a nice contrast to the depressive and burdensome bile that Jose was spitting this time last year.

At least in press conferences that is, I hope he gives the players hell in private.

How much more will people harp on Ole supposedly going back on his words after Everton. Well he certainly won't say this and this player should leave, he's hash and we don't need them. That's not what you do during preseason especially since they worth plummets too. Him not saying it outright doesn't mean we're not looking to sell some players. I guess it's just one more reason to moan.

His comments about not looking for a different route because of hurdles implies we won’t be switching targets just because the fees maybe proving a hurdle at first. Which implies we will still go all out for Maguire and co.
I don’t mind the hurdles. You don’t always get what you want. It’s the fact we’ve not flogged anyone when there is a clear need to get rid. Now he will put his trust in them again to get us back to an acceptable level - which he has stated himself.

He can't say it now in case it reduces their value but a saying it a couple of month ago is fine? Not sure that logic flies.

I'm fine with him putting a positive spin on it personally as long as he doesn't believe what he's preaching.

Back in April: “We can’t change the whole squad, it has to be one step at a time but I said all along, I’m going to be successful here and there are players who won’t be part of that successful team.

Today: ''I believe in these players. I’m sure that we could do well.''

You're aware we're in a preseason and it's a transfer window going on? As opposed to couple a months a go.

Ole's outburst was clearly designed to light a fire under the underperforming players, back in the day under Fergie the players would have listened because they wanted to be here because we were successful, do players really want to be here now? Highly debatable, so it's a tactic that probably has no effect

Anyone who thinks those comments were genuine threats to sell the likes of Rojo who didn't even play that day are massively misinformed

Exactly. We've not had a meaningful game in a while and things get rosey pretty quickly when a ball isnt kicked in vein. We have lads not good enough for this level. If Maguire comes in, that is 7 centre backs - there should have been some form of cull by now as we have a lot of deadwood. We shouldn't have to hold on to sub average lads just to keep a few numbers up.

That's the issue I have. He would have identified players not good enough by now. Yet we wont ship the deadwood out. If you know they are not good enough, move them on when you can.

It's not just a one season project. Obviously it's not great if we only do 2 signings, but not the end of the world. Just prolongs it and makes January/next summer bigger.

I took them as genuine. Because we took one point from two relegated teams to end the season, got smashed by Everton and went from a winning run to downed tools and losing run soon as Ole was made permanent. The team is anything but one that can just be man managed to be motivated  (laughing thinking how ridiculous it is that we still have so many of the players we have not you)

You know that managers can change their mind, don't you? Maybe Ole sees something in pre-season from some players that he didn't last year, after all Mourinho absolutely destroy the team's spirit last season with his toxic behaviour.

I cannot believe how some people got offended with encouraging words from the manager. Some people here have so much negativity on their mind that I cannot fathom how they live their everyday life

Why do the same idiots repeatedly underestimate just how difficult it is to offload some of the players we have on stratospheric wages?

I mean, that nobody can afford the wages we pay to the likes of Darmian and Rojo is the fault of the club; however, using their continued presence as a stick to beat Ole with is unfair and, in most instances, total nonsense.

We have a big squad. Come August, there will be a lot of players that seldom get near the match day squad. They are the players that won’t be a part of the journey under Ole. Then they either leave for a fair price or they choose to rot in the stands. Let’s wait and see.

He threw some of them under the bus after Everton away and now he has to come out and say this? My god...

It's amazing how so many people just read quotes without checking in the question asked. He was asked something like "do you believe in these players". Obvious answer is "yes" unless manager is Jose.

Gone from "it will be the last time you will see some of these players" to fully believing in them in the matter or 6 weeks.

Already trying to cover Woodwards dealings.
What he actually said was that he was going to be a success at United, and some of these players wouldn’t be around when he is. Not that he’d be shipping loads out straight away.

Ole is saying the right things but it only works as long results are ok. A loss against Spurs and his ultra positive comments means nothing.

What is he supposed to say? Solskjaer made it quite clear he wants more signings in when he said they've identified areas where they can improve. Throwing his toys out the pram isn't going to achieve anything as we saw with our manager last year.

He is clearly stuck with some players as nobody wants them, it wont do to go down the route Jose chose and just slam players publicly if you are stuck with them. Ultimately its the clubs failing for not shipping them out, but then again youve got a lot of fans saying we should stand strong and get the best money for players. Hard win for him in this case but it does give us some decent info, the club hierarchy is clearly still not where it needs to be.

Woodward has failed him, he knows it, but the way Ole is he won't come out in public and say it.

If he thinks these players will deliver for him, then he has another problem coming at him mid way through, because we all know these players are not good enough.

The performance v Everton, Huddersfield and Cardiff should tell you everything. When players don't try, then you have to get rid. They can have the best abilities but if you dont try for the club / manager, Feck off out the club.

Herrera and Valencia are gone so even that "quote" is completely true, even if it was not totally misrepresenting what OGS was trying to say at the time.

Solskjaer might have a future in politics if he fails as a football manager.
Based on recent elections, those who boldly speak up and proclaim outrage to rile and rule the mob are the 'politicians' getting votes. That's not Ole at the moment

I mean look at the reaction to Ole being firm and axing much of the squad: cheers, applause, hope

muted acceptance as a yes man : disgust, rage

Sorry but my post post was aimed at the state of things, not at Ole. Of course i know he has to say that but the fact he has had to shows the state that the club is in. A lot of people around here jump to the wrong conclusions all the time.

He said both things. Judging from our lineup of the 4-0 loss against Everton, could've been expected for us to get rid of Jones, Smalling, Young, Matic and Lukaku..

  • 1de Gea
  • 2Lindelöf
  • 12Smalling
  • 4Jones (Young)
  • 20Dalot
  • 6Pogba
  • 31Matic
  • 17Fred (McTominay)
  • 10Rashford (Pereira)
  • 9Lukaku
  • 11Martial

After his "survival of the fittest" talk yet we are here, two weeks into season with 2 new signings and no one leaving.
I have really low expectation. Just start the season already.

Calm down no one's using it as a stick to beat Ole with they're just highlighting the contradiction that Ole has been forced into presenting.

Do you actually think people blame Ole over Woodward?

There have been repeated suggestions since he arrived that he is a ‘yes’ man. Some of them in this thread. It’s a one-eyed view based on the grand sum of sod all.

There are players at the club who won’t be part of the successful team he wants to create. Just because we haven’t been able to flog them yet doesn’t make it any less true.

I can guarantee you won't be saying that come October. Our season might be over very quickly if things stay the way they are in terms of recruitment.

He clearly was referring to the entire squad and over a longer period of time than this summer window.

If this is really it in terms of signings, we will struggle to even make top 6. Another disappointing performance by the club in the transfer market and no one is held accountable again.

Lukaku hasn't played a pre-season game yet and by all accounts is due to be sold. Darmian has also not played a game. Young and Dalot have been replaced with AWB. And the window is still open and Ole is still expecting transfers. As usual, most of the action occurs towards the end of the window. Best to suspend judgement until then.

Ole on fan backlash 'Those sitting there refreshing transfer tabs and demanding we sign some teenager from a league they've never watched are pathetic and a small minority of fans. They need to get out, it is sunny in England no?'

It's good to hear him with a bit of fire!
:lol: Let's see how many will bite.
