Donny van Der Beek & Tielemans would have fit our club perfectly. We'd of had 2 quality CM's to rotate who could control the tempo, both 22 years of age.

All for under £100 million too... Tielemans may well become a superstar in the Premier League for Leicester imo!

Might have invested in defense. But my guess is with the current midfield we will not see any big improvement on last year. Our current playes wont be able to stop anything. And that will put our defense under too much pressure. Need a CDM more than anything. And without we will not be in top 6 this year.

Statistically, last season it was shown & proven that United’s vast majority of play was funnelling the ball through Pogba and over relying heavily on him to do it all.

We badly needed a second creative playmaking CM to lessen the load off him and make us more unpredictable in attack and have failed to.

Ed/United briefed the press (excuse) that we pulled the plug on Dybala because of money/lack of wanting to play for us even though they were 1000% committed and it was Dybala’s side that rejected us first...and even after that, failed to go after another target like Bruno that would die to play for United.

Hypocrisy & failure all around.

Eight hours to go and not a whiff of creative midfield reinforcements. Why do we put ourselves as fans through this twice-a-year charade.

Maybe we're trying to give Pogba the new challenge he wanted...

No wonder he thinks the grass might be greener elsewhere.

This season we will be weaker in Attack and Midfield. Again we have left the most important areas without strengthening.

Perhaps this explains why Ander said he and the club had a difference of opinion in terms of his importance to the team and the rumour that we offered him a new deal with a pay cut

United think he's not needed and neither is a replacement while PSG make him one of their big wage players. I'd back them to have more success than we do next season

No argument to be had. We lost one of our most important players and a player who scored large part of our goals since joining.

Not rocket science. Ole said we must replace departures. That's Herrera, Fellaini and Lukaku gone and looks like with five hours left, no replacements.

We have seen this recruitment debacle before under Woodward so it comes as no surprise. Although where our ambition is as a club is, it seems, fighting for sixth place with Wolves, Everton and Leicester.

Had we signed someone, sat them on the bench/left them out, then Sunday would have been a free hit.. however with no signings if the result goes against us then we’ll be booing the team on game day 1, then I can’t see OGS lasting to Christmas. Major gamble by the whole club...

Fred is going to have to step up massively, and Matic is going to have to role back the years.

I honestly think we've only got 2 midfielders of the right quality playing for us right now (McT & Pogba).

Juventus are not willing to let Dybala leave without a replacement being lined up. Of course, clubs like ours do not think like that! It is a joke.

For how many seasons now have we been lacking a settled midfield?

The mood from day one will be downbeat. Just the same as last season, except we did not have a manager moaning about it.

Fans are not daft. They don't need a moaning manager to work out we remain understrength in crucial areas.

Since Fergie left. We were using an aging Ryan Giggs in centre mid because, quite frankly, he was superb in that role, and then we got in Angel Maria who did not fit anywhere. Schweinstiger and Schneiderlin were a mistake as they provided no creativity at all.. and we are in exactly the same position, except we have Pogba. Or do we.

He could still go in the next month, while the transfer window elsewhere is open.

And as it stands, I can see him agitating for a move.

Oh Everton are after Rojo. Surely with all the CD we have, that is a goer.

Scott McTominay (DM), Paul Pogba (Box to Box) & Angel Gomes (AM)

We have more than 1 AM, take Lingard and Mata, Perreira, may be even Fred can play forward as well. Whether they are good enough for the job is a separate debate but we have plenty of bodies. What we lack is other areas, with only McTom and Matic as DM, which is neither solid in defence and terrible in attack/passing. Herrera has not been replaced, and Pogba is about the ONLY creative player we have, if he shows up, which has been a big question mark last season. 1 more box2box MF is a necessity.

We were lacking settled midfield before that. Ryan Giggs was not really superb in his final seasons. He had his moments for sure, but he was not consistently good.

Losing Lukaku and Herrera are the only genuine weaknesses we've suffered to be fair, and Lukaku wasn't even that good for us.
Granted he's a cart horse, but he still got over 40 goals in 2 seasons, who's going to replace that?

Our sqaud is better than people think. I bet Perreira can shine, same as Fred. These are the players we sell and the become world beaters. We need proper playibg style and consistancy.

Lukaku hasn't gone without a replacement. We've promoted Greenwood. Fellaini is no major loss - McTominay has effectively replaced him. We did need another creative midfielder though.

Martial and Rashford getting 5 goals more each just by getting more important roles and more attacking roles (could get more tbf), and then Greenwood/Chong/Gomes the rest of Lukaku's goals (and whatever Sanchez got over the last 2 seasons). I don't think we have any fewer goals than last season really.

Seems clear we're going to rely more on Rashford and Martial. Lukaku barely played under Ole so even if he stayed he wouldn't be scoring that much. We won't miss the measley amount of goals he would score.

If Jose was still here and we sold Lukaku, we'd definitely need a top replacement. Under Ole? The most we'd get would be a backup striker such as Mandzukic, and if not then possibly Greenwood.

In our rebuild season, we've spent less than City net-wise and made 2 of the three parts of the team theoretically weaker (attack and midfield although I never rated Lukaku).

Anyone claiming the owners have invested even a fair amount is deluding themselves.

I have to wonder who the hell was out targets? It must have been to renew Mata’s Contract. Absolute joke.

Mega gamble by the club, looks as though this season is the season for the Gomes/Greenwood breakthrough campaign a lot of us have been requesting but to bring in no one is a massive gamble. Going by the tactics pre-season looks like a 2 in midfield instead of a 3 with a number 10 being deployed but can't see us playing that way at City/Anfield and we are seriously struggling for numbers.

Rashford/Martial have struggled for consistent goals, this season that needs to be a thing of the past, both need to pass 15/20 goals each in all competitions at least.

Gomes/Greenwood, so much now required on such young shoulders, especially in their breakthrough years.

Fred/Pereira need to improve massively, Matic needs to pull his head out of his ass (although he may struggle as he just looks finished)

Have to hope and pray we don't get to many injuries.

All of the above just to fight for a top 4 finish, early start on Sunday at the pub, will need a few on board for this season I think!

Been lurking for a few years during which I've been on the Reissued forums having 'fun' but done and dusted now which is why my post count here is zero. Anyway reading all the comments about our transfer policy and why we're supposedly screwed again made me want to contribute something.

Lots of people are worried that we have made no big signings other than Maguire. We all know how well our big signings of the last few years have gone....not very. There's lots of concern that we haven't really gone after the likes of Dybala, Fernandes or any of the Madrid, Milan or Juventus cast-offs but I'm glad we haven't.

I'm also glad that we have signed the two other lads we have. Dybala wanted crazy money to come here. We could have agreed but then we'd have a class player who would be here for the money not for the club. I think it's true that big foreign names, in general, will not give their all for the team as their money is guaranteed and their is no passion for the club only their bank accounts. Developing foreign players are a different thing. We get a young player hungry for success, wants the opportunity to become a great player and wants 'play' for a great team rather than just turning up to get his money.

The lads we've signed have come to us because they're getting decent money but I think it's also a thrill for them to come to us; to walk in the footsteps of Edwards, Best, Law, Charlton and all the way down to Becks and Cantona. I believe that means something to our new players I also think it would mean nothing to most of the overseas 'stars'. Those of us old enough to remember Docherty's teams of the early 70's will know where that kind of chopping and changing, bringing in established (if slightly or very over the hill) stars can lead. Docherty then built a great young side with a few experienced players and it became one of the best United teams ever; almost on a par with Fergies late 90's team. If Ole has that same mindset, which I believe he might, then he gets my support 100% because he's not trying to stick square pegs in round holes but is trying to build a young side that will have players who want to play for the club and will give their all to prove it. I will be happy to wait a few years for success if a young side is being developed like the ones I mentioned above.

I would rather see an exciting young United side stretching for glory and achieving it now and then rather than a bunch of chancers grinding out 1-0s to achieve consistent success whilst sending us to sleep.

United wanted to sign a more defensive-minded midfielder this summer regardless of the Pogba situation, to plug the gaps left by recent departures Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini. But they weren't able to persuade Newcastle to accept anything less than £50million for Sean Longstaff, who was among their top targets in that position. -- MEN

I can't believe United had a defensive midfield signing list with only 1 player on it.

I'd take Longstaff for 50 mill right now if that's our only option, I know it's crazy money but we're really thin in midfield. Shockingly thin.

C’mon - real world time! We’ve replaced Belgium’s all-time scorer with a 17 year old? Silly.

You can’t possibly expect that of Greenwood.
