So Junker says Brexit will happen and a deal can be done by 31st October.

Also seems to be relaxing on the backstop issue. Border in the Irish sea perhaps?

I am not looking for an argument. Just an idea of what people were actually expecting.

Honestly, I don't understand why we are still talking about it.
Congratulations on your weight loss (I read of it in another thread). Well done, sir. :)

Yup, so the idea of a resolution is palatable to all involved at last. Just need to work on....all the detail

Question time nowadays does my head in. Listening to some of the shite I'm almost hoping we do crash out, and people get to see and feel what they are pushing so hard for.

But that has always been the case? Either agree or supply the alternative arrangements, it was never closed.

One wonders how quickly we might have got to that point if May hadn't called an election that left her needing the DUP's support. It's not like the EU side had an issue with the idea of a sea border and it was always the most pragmatic solution.

For anybody that hasn't read up on today's proceedings in the supreme court:

Report By Laura Kuessenberg-Johnson

Nothing happened today in the supreme courts and you don't even know what the supreme court is. John Major said something Naughty about Sir Boris, but he is a Labour activist and has no right to an opinion as a result.

One of the judges doesn't have twitter so theres a good chance she doesn;t know what a wonderful man the Prime Minister is and she looks pretty Labour. I bet she speaks to poor people, Which is disgusting.

In the UK it was reported that crime had risen in England and Wales more than any other developed nation, But Boris said that was just immigrants, he told me twice last night and again this morning so i trust him.

If the court rule against the handsome PM then he's just going to do it again and he has every right to do so because fecking feck you!

This has been a good day for the PM.

Funny I thought most Tories were of the opinion the Beeb is full of left wing luvvies.

If both sides say that it leans towards the opposition then it must be pretty much on the money for most things.
The BBC favours the sitting government. It's long had more than its fair share of conservatives in prominent political roles, and this is indisputable. I'm sure it'll start to swing the other way if/when Labour get back in power.

On social issues though, the BBC does tend to lean left IMO, which is probably where the illusion of balance comes from.

We can argue about its relevance but it is still a fact. Bottom line is you are upset a reporter reported a fact. You drew conclusions based on that.

Some people might think the fact relevant. Some might not. But she’s not to blame for the facts.
That’s a misguided way of looking at it (not specifically the Kuenssberg tweet, but the strategic use of facts). If when reporting on crime, a newspaper only mentioned nationality when a Polish individual was the perpetrator, then your comment of
‘Some people might think the fact relevant. Some might not. But she’s not to blame for the facts’ doesn’t hold up. Facts can be used strategically and manipulatively.

When talking about the BBC it's probably worth noting the size of its operation: there are regional outputs for example with their own news shows etc, many of which will differ in tone and content. And not to mention there's a huge amount of journalism that goes on behind the broadcast stuff - there's plenty of great investigative work done by seasoned pros. I've got my issues with the BBC and its reporting sometimes but it's also far too easy to kick out at sometimes. And it's also close to impossible to basically categorise in one way.

Instead of being annoying why don't you just read back and stop wasting everybody's time. If you can't see it then move on.
There is nothing to see but you are right, best to move on than get bogged down in it.

Nope. Not quite sure how such a non event caused page after page of discussion.
Because of the double standards. Has LK or the BBC ever outed the Tory activists identified in the question time audience, for example?

Because of the tone, "here he is...". Get him.

Because she is deflecting from Johnson being caught lying again. Our serial liar Prime Minister is not being called out by the BBC yet again.

In general, the consistently pro Conservative coverage by the BBC politics team (and LK) over the past few years. Eg. Fiona Bruce joking with Tory MP's during serious questions but badgering and sneering at Labour MP's.

Because the content and tone from her dismisses the man as being a concerned father with a young baby in hospital. Apparently he's only a Labour activist. Implying it's a PR stunt or setup.

The poor response from the BBC after criticism. No acceptance or review of social media policy. More far right pile ons are allowed if you support Labour apparently. Even if you are in hospital with a 7 day old sick baby.

Does that help you to understand? It really should.

The EU already suggested the Irish Sea and we said no, then that’s why we came up with the backstop.

I think that might genuinely lead to a deal tbf but it does have problems of its own.

Exactly, I love that question times question was ‘are the LD the most dangerous party in the UK?’

What on Earth! How can keeping the status quo be the most dangerous thing?

I have to switch off Question Time now. It's far too unbalanced. It worries me that some people may watch it with questioning the content. It could lead us to a dangerous place.

It might lead to a new deal and will be dubbed “Boris’s deal” but it still comes with its own set of problems like you say and once again it won’t get nearly enough votes in Parliament. Square one.

I thought Boris had already said he wouldn't go with an irish sea border? The ERG won't support it so he'd have to rely on Labour.

Of course they may rebrand it and try and con everyone into thinking its something else to save face.

The news around Barclay saying they need another year solve the backstop issue seems to have not made the news.

Don't think the ERG give a feck. They were trying to woo the DUP.

So now the government are begging the EU not to share the 'non-papers' with member states in case they're leaked

"Please don't show the world we have nothing if you do we won't be able to blame you for the breakdown in talks"

The UK really has become the World's laughing stock. Thanks to the Conservative party.

I think you were seeing things that aren't there. Words like "tone" and "deflecting" and "dismissing" and "implying" are all your interpretations that not everyone shares. I think you genuinely don't comprehend what she was actually doing, and have drawn the wrong conclusions as a result. But anyhow, I'm not going to convince you now. I said at the start of this the BBC would chuck these complaints in the bin, and they have, because they do comprehend what she was doing.

Can we bore off with the Laura chat now? Some of us see issue with a persons opinions being dismissed because of their politics some clearly don't. Some of us see issue with performing an action that might set trolls on a dad with a sick baby, some don't.

The BBC have decided that they will always inform us of someones politic leanings in the future and I'm sure they'll be 100% consistent.

Just read this. Extraordinary. How are member states supposed to scrutinize, let alone prepare, for something they aren't supposed to see?

This is dictator level of surreal. Boris and his cabinet know exactly how outlandish that request is, yet they know the UK media (aside from a few) will hardly even mention it, let alone question it, and tory MPs will act like it is normal. Acting like the absurd is normal, and expecting the people to buy it. Dangerous times.

You are making a way bigger deal of it than it should. Think about it, if they gave anything it is to the EU negotiator who works for the member states, everything said to him goes to the member states and they give him their individual position on top of the collective ones that have been or will be set. The only way to give sense to such request would be that the UK government is basically asking that the EU play along and stall the negotiations.

Fair enough.
