Typical young player that only performs well when confident. When he's not confident, he hasn't yet developed the maturity to realize how to alter his game to still be effective.

Very pleased for him. I thought he was MOTM and worked his socks off today. Hopefully with Martial back the pressure on him eases a bit and he regains some confidence.

After months of saying how shit he is and useless

Yeah but he hasn't been good for months. People are going to comment on what they see.

Those that have written him off as a Championship level player or whatever are in the wrong, but not those that have commented on his performances.

I’ll support whoever the feck I want you clown

feck off belk

Totally agree. He played really well today though as he did and does for England and he’s a very good player, one of our better players so let’s give respect where it’s due.

Confidence isn't much to do with it. Hes best when he has space to run in the channels. Top teams will attack us and leave that space for him to exploit. The other 15 teams in the league wont, and he hasnt the technical ability or movement to perform to the required level against them.

Very happy to see him play like this tonight. I mean, I always love it when we score, but I'm especially happy when Rashford gets on the scoresheet.

Man City - 2
Liverpool - 3
Chelsea - 1
Arsenal - 2
Spurs - 1

is his record i believe. not bad!

Same, especially when he shuts half the fan base up.

MOTM for me, as a loan #9 he struggles but in a partnership he looks better, he did reasonably well in the split striker system last season as well. Worked hard, had some good moments running at Liverpool and his goal was superbly taken.

He was very good. His movement was good and there at least couple of times where James just delayed the pass or didn’t pass as he didn’t control the ball quickly. Would have been 1v1 chance for Rashford.
Apart from the goal his general play was good too, playing as striker in a system where he was isolated. He was the outlet for the team, when Pereira went for diagonal long passes, he kept the possession and gave breathing space for the team.

With Martial back, hopefully both of them will kick in and start to build the partnership. Need both of them in their top form.

This probably explains why his record against the bigger teams is so good.

When teams park the bus, he gets frustrated and tries going short to get on the ball for some reason.

I also feel it comes down to lack of creativity. We have no one other than Pogba who can split these tight defences, and its not enough, most top teams have multiple creators, withing their midfield, wide players or striker. We pass side to side looking clueless.

People have been crying out for him to attack these crosses all season as he usually loiters away from them... Lo and behold and he does it and scores.

Had he done that a few more times this season he'd have more goals and James would have a few more assists.

Surely these are the goals Solskjaer allures to when he mentions needing to score scrappy cause we create these at least twice a game.

Had put in a great shift today, and it's such a shame that our other players didn't have the vision to pick him out when he made those runs.

From memory, there were at least twice that he made a run and would have been through on goal if James had just look up and put in a through ball, and he'd have to stop then come back on side and try again.

I agree. Was excellent yesterday. And often made good runs and didn't get the ball. Though i guess few times he would be offside as well if he got the ball.

Poor start, some typical "a la Rashford" moments, but got a lot better as the game progressed. He really looks like he's running on fumes, desperately nee a rest.

Did well. With Martial coming back i want to see him on the left.
Yes,left coming in. That has to be his permanent position now.

Took encouragement from his passing game yesterday too. Pulled off good effective short and long range passes.

this.

it's nice to enjoy his goals against the bigger teams, but i'm fully expected now to see him return to his usual ways when he doesn't have room to counter. because unfortunately he doesn't have the technical skill to impact the game in any other way.

he would be a good player to bring on 2nd half after we have taken a lead and the opposition attack a bit more.

Good post. Despite his good game, couldnt help but notice how he overran the ball and kicked it against his standing foot.

Hes a funny player in that hes physically very impressive with his speed and strength, but with the space afforded by bottom 15 teams he cant really do anything as his dribbling and passing isnt good.

Still, he did play well and can be used effectively on the counter.

Mourinho & Keane were spot on here about Rashford.

Hate to say it but I think even Souness had a decent point.

Neville as usual defending Rashford at all costs. Mourinho made the best point. Either a striker scores goals or he does other things for the team. As Souness said, Rashford is NEITHER right now.

Yeah Neville was the only one talking complete rubbish as usual.

I don't blame Rashford, he's just not a 9 and is being hung out to dry currently by Ole. Ole's summer management was criminal, not replacing Lukaku and heaping all the pressure on Rashford to lead the line.

The fact that there's talk of us bringing Mandzukic (or panic buying any experienced striker) in January, when he was available in the summer, says it all about Ole's 'plan & judgment'.

Exactly.

Fact is Ole created this problem and now we're acting like he's the only one trying to solve it. It was his judgement to have Rashford as this lone striker which has completely backfired.

Thankfully, the others in the studio weren't having it.

I find it really funny how Neville tried to defend Ole's decision to not have a 'traditional striker' in Lukaku by comparing it to when RVN left and Saha came in & how 'electric we became'.

Completely ignoring the fact that SAF didn't just rely on kids to lead the line. 2006/07 was the same season he brought 33 year old Solskjaer back in from injury & also brought 36 year old Larsson in that same season on loan in the January. Between them they played 25 matches for us that season.

Also, look at that squad, there's mountains of difference in experience and quality still. It can't even be compared.

Yes, and what a lot have been saying about him.

It's actually quite damning for Jose to say that about him, that he will never be a number 9. Sounds like he doesnt rate him all that highly.

Why? He said he is a boy with great talent. But he just isn't a number 9 which is what most know anyway.

While I understand Mourinho's point, I disagree.

Yes, Rashford does not have the mix of strength and speed like Drogba or Lukaku (players Mourinho would prefer). Additionally, Rashford will likely never have the technical ability to play like Aguero or Firmino. However, I can't see why he can't have a similar impact Aubameyang if he improves his finishing. He's only 21.
