Ref had the yellow card out until he say the Everton player's injury. That does not seem right.
Yeah didn't even look like we got a VAR check. Unless there was a quick check and they didn't want to show us the replays.

Awful for Gomes, horrific.

That said, that’s yet more inept refereeing. Yellow card challenge, seemed the damage was all done by the second Spurs player.

Son what have you done?!? :(
It wasn’t Son it was Aurier and it was due to real misfortune as Gomes had no control having already been fouled and Aurier was already making his tackle based on calculations made before Gomes was fouled.

Seeing the replay, it’s definitely not a red card worthy challenge.

You can't give a straight red for that. It's not like Son intended for him to fly through the air and collide with Aurier

This fecking necessary? It’s not even that bad a tackle, just unfortunate and could happen to anyone.

Son is clearly devastated by the result and is not a malicious player. So not sure where the need to abuse him comes from.
Exactly, it was a run of the mill challenge from Son, just a freak injury

It was his foot getting planted that did the damage. The tackle looked pretty innocuous. Wish Gomes a speedy recovery, it looked awful.

Should VAR really be used for important decisions like that though? Seems more appropriate to use it to figure out if somebody's chin hair is offside.

Moot point though. Son wasn't staying on.

If it happened during a normal tackle during the game, then its a different matter.

Son went looking to foul him... and got it wrong. He gets little sympathy from me. It wasnt a footballing tackle. It was getting one back.

The just showed a replay was barely a yellow card tackle.
Yeah I don’t think it was red after seeing it again. Definite yellow when you jump in from behind at pace though. A slow motion replay makes it look less of a bad tackle.

That's what I meant last week when I said every tackle with your feet is much more dangerous than Guendouzi's rugby tackle which some people wanted a red card for. Which is ludicrous.

feck, that's horrible for the guy. A very very good player just making his mark in the PL and this thing happens. I wish him a speedy recovery.

If a foul causes a player to break their leg then that's a red card all day long in my book. If Son doesn't foul him Andre Gomes isn't on his way to hospital, deserves a red.

Nasty injury that one. Was actually Aurier that did the damage not Son.

Wish Gomes a speedy recovery. Never nice to see those type of injuries.

What did Son think would happen when he dived in from behind? He obviously can’t expect the injury but did he think the tackle couldn’t potentially injure him? Maybe he’ll think twice next time.

Breaks can happen in any way, you can break your leg falling down a single step.

Not watching but I'm gutted for Gomes. I like him as a player and he seems a top guy, too :(

The Rugby tackle deserved a red (in my opinion) just because it was such a ridiculous and cheating way to stop a counter-attack, not because it was dangerous.
