I don't believe Gervais is a TERF or transphobe either. He's just made some poorly chosen jokes supposedly making fun of actual transphobes.
I definitely don't agree with the last part though. There are various groups of feminists that make absolutely no secret of being trans-exclusionary. I've even got a flyer from a group in Bristol who were rallying about "biological essentialism" in pretty large numbers. My sister passed similar rally in London from a different group. It's a rising faction within feminism.
There are radicals on both sides but the term TERF is derogatory, just as truscum is and sissy, ******, trap, shemale etc. To discuss the nuances as an "ally" you need to consider a cross-section of transgender opinions, not just to take the view points of one extreme. Both are just as damaging.
I mean, imagine trying to School Boy George on gender bending... This is what it has come to.
Acknowledgement that biological differences were the reason why traditionally Women were and are repressed is not transphobic. Understanding concerns is compassion, not hate. Maybe I'm different in my way of thinking as a trans Woman.
The Caf is far from ideal to have a level headed discussion about this though and this thread is about Ricky at the Golden Globes.
There's a very thin line that both parties tread and the Police are obliged to investigate. I think we could all agree it's one topic we should avoid like the plague and not to stoke as to not get anybody into trouble.
